I knew someone had to make a gay or sexual reference. I recall in the eighties when 'gay' meant happy- which is actually what these people seem to be :)
Am I the only one thinking they are a British version of ABBA? Suspiciously, their group was even created somewhere in the times of the end of the Swedish group, that is the beginning of the 80s.
Damn, they even look more scandinavian than english. Not suspecting a rip-off or anything, but it's just amazing.
You can keep all the r'n'b divas & teenage wannabies on 4Music & Viva! etc .... Cheryl and Jay are REAL ladies! I wonder if Cheryl ever wore that outfit in panto, and if so, how many Dads went home VERY happy?
Man , I had to see this once again to remember what a crap this was...and to think that an ex member of King Crimson participated writing the lyrics for this...corny as hell.
@wezthewezwez Damn, you are right. I said this was "corny as hell" refering only to the visual part, but never bothered even to pay attention to the lyrics. Happens the same with ABBA, you are so busy listening to the music that you don´t pay attention to lyrics...and ABBA´s lyrics were nasty, LOL..."I can see, what you are, but you seem pretty young to be searching for that kind of fun, girl you are only a child" Good point you make, thank you for the comment!

Even assuming that Pete Winfield had Thatcherite proletarian alienation in mind when he wrote the lyric, the song is a lot more enjoyable if listened to as a child's dream or phantasy. Like all good art, the song offers more than one level of understanding. The most amazing thing is that Bucks Fizz recorded it and it turned out great anyway. Even Abba wouldn't have sounded much better if they did it.
Yes,found out that this song was written by a guy from "King Crimson"......It is about Thatcherism.....It is a great song......just because there is a certain innocence about it.....even if there is a hidden political message.....
Bucks Fizz were an awful group, useless on every level -- but this song is fantastic. Why? Well the words are by Pete SInfield of all people, the visionary lyricist for early King Crimson and co-writer of Greg Lake's brilliant I Believe in Father Christmas.
I don't go for the Thatcher critique model:
Land of Make Believe is a song about childish dreams and fantasy, a classic, magic. Whatever it's about it was wasted on Bucks Fizz: good despite them doing it.
It's true that the girls didn't have much time for each other but if you can see it in their body language, you must be on drugs! Total professionals.

Mmm, the other versions sounds better. It would be funny at the begining when they are walking round if the fell over each other LOOl whoops i mean LOL
I'm with you on that, PhunckyOne! In fact, I'm pretty sure that I've done Cheryl (or at least her look alike) more than a few times at a bar in Soho. As you say, YUM! I'd still like to see her again. I'm curious if we had any kids from the encounters. I would have married her in a heartbeat!
@ThePhunckyOne I agree they are both very hot ladies,I worked with a bloke years ago who had the real hots for Cheryl he had dreams for years of shagging her,I told him it would drive him mad trying to attain something so out of his reach,he can dream I suppose after all it is the land of make believe!
its almost like the goodies meets frank spencer meets dolly parton meets abba. they all had a massive orgy of sex and this was the result 9 months later. this is all possible only in the land of make believe.
Also, I strongly beleive that 'Now those days are gone' by Bucks Fizz is so vey under rated, 1 of the best songs ever, it's in my top 20, mind you, I have about 500 songs in my top 20!(it's a bit of a squeeze!)
Catchy & good, Cheryl talks like a child TV presenter, I fancied & (still do) the 'other one'. Thought I'd search 4 the lyrics as 1 lines been bugging me 4 years, don't rec' many do know it as when I see people singing it they seem to either stop at that point or muffle, knew they couldn't be singing 'Your an alci' (alcoholic)once again', it's 'your an outlaw once again', didn't catch the line 'not 4 all the corn in Carolina either, You can hear a song 4 years & not know what they sing
cheryl got a great set of pins, just a shame her hair cut looks like a motor bike helmet, and one of those guys looks like nick handcock presenter of room 101 if you ever watched that shite?
Easy to make fun of if you are a youngster ,but hey, this is alot of what it was like back then with "English" productions and shows like :top of the pops"

lalbruiz 10 months ago
@lalbruiz I love the King Crimoson influence on this song, take away the bouncy tune and the lyrics are really sinister
"something nasty in your garden"
"try to run but it won't let you"
"your dream is burning"
and on the original single it fades out with the spoken lines of
"I've a friend who came to tea
that nobody else can see but me
he came to saty but bhad to go
to visit you, you never know"
Live in fear the spirit is cominbg to your house!
wezthewezwez 10 months ago
