  • The big shinny bag of science diet should tell you who signs her paycheck. Science diet is one of the worst foods out there. God designed cats to eat little crunchy critters, fur, bones organs and all. Not wonder bread and iceberg lettuce.

  • Bones, organs, meat. That's what OBLIGATE carnivores need. Not your silly veggies. Pasta? Are you serious? Pasta doesn't even exist in the wild. Is there a part of the Serengeti serving pasta to felines that we need to know about?

  • Obligate: Restricted to a particular function or mode of life.

Meaning, does not need anything other than what is is obligated to eat!

  • I feel mean saying this but if the person giving advice isn't healthy, their advice probably isn't the healthiest either. I disagree with this completely. Cats need cooked white rice? Common sense is gone. Lady at work has a puppy German Shepard and it's in and out of the vet all the time. I keep recommend her seriously considering a NATURAL diet for her dog.

  • Do not listen to this woman. She is completely WRONG. The raw meat diet with bones is the best diet for a cat or a dog.

  • Cats need meat, bones, and organs. If the food is frozen, some of the taurine (an essential amino acid for cats) can be damaged requiring extra organ meat, which is rich in taurine.

My cats also enjoy wheatgrass, avocado, rib of romaine, cantaloupe, cucumber, broccoli, zucchini, etc., but only as treats. One of my cats is nuts for oranges and another wants my Brazil nuts. They never get grains.

I have three who are 17+ years old, raw for 8 years. And several younger ones raw since weaning.

  • this woman is an idiot. Cats only need meat!!

  • cats ONLY need meat, dogs on the other hand are omnivores

  • catinfo.org is another fantastic source for reliable information about proper raw feeding for cats

  • No cat in the wild has ever ate rice and vegatables. Go to catnutrition org to find out how to make food for your cat

  • DON'T LISTEN TO HER! Please look up rawfeedcats(dot)com!

  • There is nothing wrong with feeding your cat a good quality dry catfood. I've owned cats for decades and except for a few of them, all lived to be a ripe old age.

  • Tomatoes have solanine. This woman should be in jail.

  • Tomatoes are toxic to cats. This video should be removed.

  • You are not listening. ANY amount of ANY part of a tomato WILL cause kidney damage even if it's just once. That includes with an extremely high possibility of total failure and death. Tomatoes are deadly period for a cat. Believe me you don't want to find this out the hard way.

  • You are dead wrong about needing vegtables and fruits. They can't digest them properly and don't need them. That's what being an obligate carnivore means

  • Wow... What the hell.

Cats are obligate carnivores. I believe there is absolutely no need for veggies or rice. If you're feeding raw, all they're going to need is 80% muscle meat, 10% bone and 10% organs.

  • I feed my cat ONLY raw meat and shes been alive for 13 years

  • ALso dogs and cats are 99% immune to Salmonella . If they weren't they would have gone extinct by now. Their digestion is NOTHING like our own.. Read a book .

  • Consuming too many carbs=feline diabetes. Cat food companies use them because they are an inexpensive filler food. Cats digestive systems are also not made to break down veggies, they lack the enzymes for it. If you are going to feed a raw diet, either use an all meat diet with the appropriate supplements or a diet where veggies count for less than 5%. I feed my cats the Nature's Variety raw medallions, they love them!

  • frankly it is not bad to feed them tomatoes, nor to feed them any type of veggies if you vary it with meat, \ i have a 5 years old cat , and very healthy ,/and reduce the consumption once or twice every 2 months, my cat, cannot see me put canned mushrooms on the salad otherwise she starts taking them out, and i always, pure chicken or fish raw, and when i have the chance I add carrots, and other veggies, cats, are carnivors , however wouldnt you get tired or eating meat alone every day??

  • It is very bad to feed them tomatoes. They're highly toxic. Any part of the plant or fruit will cause kidney failure. Talk to UC Davis hemodialysis unit in San Diego if you doubt it.

  • it is bad if you feed them every day......not once , or twice.....every 2 months.....i do believe you, but that is for people that want to put there cat a vegetarian health....i dont remove the meat, at all....nor their supplements....

  • @nereydacast not if thats what my body is built for. I've never seen/heard of a lion or tiger go naaaah im leaving the antelope alone today im eating a melon.... It's one thing if your cat likes the taste of the occasional veggie like a carrot or something but its not actually needed, and yes some veggies are toxic to cats some more than others and some cats are more sensitive than others. Any who kudos to you for feeding your cat raw in the first place. KIBBLE SUX!

  • @LionessCub1 , likewise... say what you want, you dont feed my cat.....and if he wants to eat something let him eat, it... my cats are healthy...thats what the last vet mentioned....so ill believe him....later.....

  • Someone please keep this moron away from animals. Tomatoes are NOT GOOD. Tomatoes, peppers, onions, grapes/raisins, potatoes, mushrooms...all of these are toxic to cats. Don't give your poor cat white rice, or pasta. Think about what you're doing. A cat's natural diet consists of whole rodents, insects, birds, and small reptiles. Bones, fur, organs, and all. If you can't provide this, do your best to mimic it, or you are doing it WRONG!

  • LOL

    cats need rice & veg?

Do you see cats prowling rice fields, or maybe orchards for their meal?

  • cats don't need rice. Meat is all they need, and fruits, rice, oats and veggies should be tolerated rather than encouraged.

  • IS that a tomato?!

CATS CAN BE POISONED BY TOMATOES!

BTW my cats eat ONLY raw foods!

  • Really because my vet just told us to stop feeding our cat kibble. fancy that.

  • HA! you work for Kibbles, you shameless pimp. Or you're a vet.

  • my cat has ea ten raw for 10 years and is the fastest cleanest shiniest smartest cat you'll ever see ever.. he has perfect teeth. DOn't you dare compare wet crap food to real raw meat ever.

  • obligate carnivore means they need meat to survive, hypercarnivore means they can only eat meat. cats are obligate carnivores, not hypercarnivores.

"They may consume other products presented to them, especially animal products like eggs and bone marrow or sweet sugary substances like honey and syrup, but, as these items are not essential, they do not consume these on a regular basis."

  • White rice and flour?! You DONT feed cats this glycemic BS!Grains and corn in food gives them diabetes, which my last cat died from.We switched from dried cat food to some company that sold a canned wet meat-based food that contained the things you suggest (grains vegetables fruits). He was going downhill and we called them to cancel the shipments since we switched to raw turkey. The woman said "that's the best thing you can do for your cat."Their own company advises against using their product FU

  • So someone gave your cat tainted meat and because you gave her catfood (again) and she got better, this proves that roadkill and dead cats and dogs ground into ground corn husks and flour and other veggie crap is essential for cats to live? The meat was bad. Good raw meat is good.

  • Obligate Carnivore means they ONLY EAT MEAT. Grains, veggies, and fruits are bad for cats. I would do more research before calling yourself an expert!

  • I am co-administrator of an online cat group. I have many years' experience with cat-specific nutrition and how their body processes work. What julieb454 is saying is true and I agree with what she has said 100%.

  • Comment removed

  • It is an online forum for species-appropriate diet, care, etc. for kitties. We promote a balanced RAW diet - as kitties are designed to eat, since they are obligate carnivores. Grains are a HUGE no-no for kitties. I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say. Apologies if that is the case. I 100% agree with julieb454 in every respect.

  • Yes. I agree. I agree wholeheartedly.

  • u r so clueless ... u need to know more facts b 4 sharing .... n u r dangerous !!

  • Grains?Erm she mustve brainwashed the poor kitty carers cuz my cat died cuz of her! Stupid mutherfucker she needs 2 go back 2 school.

  • You need to study feline physiology and biology. They do *not* process grains (and grains alkalize their naturally acidic urine - not good!), nor do they derive sufficient vitamins, amino acids, etc. from plant sources. OBLIGATE means STRICT carnivore. Vitamins, amino acids, etc. benefits are derived from *animal* sources. And there is not enough space here to even *begin* commenting on the importance of balancing the calcium to phosphorus ratio by providing the appropriate calcium source.

    ARG!

  • And your ignorance is showing. What part of "obligate carnivore" do you not understand? Do a search on "obligate carnivore" or "obligate carnivore, feline" and then maybe we could talk. Right now, you're not worth wasting my time.

  • A carnivorous (balanced raw) diet has the effect of increasing net acid excretion and decreasing urine pH naturally. A diet that contains a high proportion of meat is lower in potassium salts than a diet containing high levels of cereal grains, which have been shown to produce an alkaline urine when metabolized. Therefore the inclusion of high levels of cereal grains commonly found in dry/canned cat foods has been shown produce an alkaline urine.

  • "True carnivores lack the physiology required for the efficient digestion of vegetable matter, and, in fact, some carnivorous mammals eat vegetation specifically as an emetic. The domestic cat is a prime example of an obligate carnivore, as are all of the other felids."

  • YES. Julieb454 is correct.

  • A Client. What kind of RETARDS would ask this IDIOT for advice. PREDATORS. HAH.

ANy smart cat would go straight for HER JUGULAR and eat that dumb whore.

    Hey lady RUN AWAY please.

    You are an asshole

  • Adding something like a bit of alfalfa powder to the meat and bone is fine but GRAINS,PASTA nessecary? not at all.

  • I would agree that there is great harm in feeding inappropriate foodstuffs, especially as the basic diet. The long term maladies arising from elevated blood glucose and obesity are too serious to ignore. Please check up on your facts

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! How could you promote a Raw diet w/veggies, grains and pasta??!!! Haven't you heard that anything other than totally raw or a low carb wet food with "NO" veggies, grains etc etc is harmful for you cat ??? Guess you aren't aware of Feline Diabetes for goodness sakes!!!! YOUR AN IDIOT NOT AN EXPERT!!!!

  • I am a naughty? ho! j
