@Johnlindsey289 -- I love Roger Dean, Hayao Miyazaki and Rene Laloux - more so than Avatar because they are actually original. I never said I hated Avatar, I just said that it pisses me off that James Cameron is credited for the genius of other people! That ALWAYS pisses me off, its not limited to James Cameron. Besides, to each their own. Some people adore Avatar to the point of role-play - I guess you are one of those people right?
This always makes me want to cuddle up with my best friend I love dearly and I just want to always be with him but were going our seperate ways soon because of college he wants to stay and I want to go to New york... Sucks... love..
Reminds me of one of my best friends and I. We had this dream of being engineers, and we were lab partners since the beginning of our career. @hope0hurts i think its just that they dont know what kissing was so when he kissed her she was confused. :) maybe i havent seen this movie in along time but im pretty sure thats what it was. ^-^
Indeed, did you see this movie in theaters when you were 10 also? i did i was 10 and loved it, i thought Crysta was a knockout and even had a few wetdreams of her as a teen. Nice to meet another 80's/early 90's kid and mid-late 90's teen like myself.
Not all there's also 2D still on the market in the form of DC animated movies, Princess and The Frog and Studio Ghibli movies. there's also Clay Animation and Stop Motion animated movies as well.
Excellent animated fantasy i enjoyed since i saw it in theaters at age 10 and Crysta gave me a boner for she is the hottest toon fairy since Elinore from Wizards. This movie is on par with Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (aka Warriors of the Wind) and Princess Mononoke as one of the best enviromentalist movies in animation.
I understand that companies like Pixar and Dreamworks work extremly hard and they deserve all the credit that is due to them, but in my opinion, 2D will always be my favorite. Maybe its cuz I grew up in the age of Lion King and Aladdin, movies of that type, that 2D animated films always have this timeless quality to them. @808Raiden Just because it's James Cameron (angelic chorus sounds whenever his name is uttered) doesn't mean Avatar is automatically a good movie. It has stunning visuals, yes, but there is no originality whatsoever.
@emmactress1894 HOLY $#!+ So many CRITICS. Tell me YOUR favorite movie (recent) and I GUARANTEE that there's a movie already made that is similar to it. Let's take "Ferngully" for example. You do know that the original story of "Pocahantas" came before, right? So Ferngully ripped Pocahantas? Little FYI, there's a formula that movie makers use. They see what the general public likes and makes movies with that in mind. So of course you'll see similarities in different movies.
@808Raiden I actually prefer original movies. My favorite is Sophia Coppola's "Lost in Translation." Yes, there are many similarities in movies. But when the similarities become tired or cliche, no one wants to sit through that because they know what's coming. This story is the one of the most tired of all - this story of an ignorant white person who comes into contact with some sort of significantly different tribe/society (used in "Ferngully," "Dances With Wolves," "Pocahontas," and "Avatar.")
@emmactress1894 ignorance is what is stressed most in the "cliched". Some people cannot move past skin color or culture and see that ignorance is the true message conveyed from the brilliant and creative minds that produce beauty and wonderment. You're still stuck on the outside while many have moved inward to seek deeper meaning than superficial feeling.
@revilor You make little sense... I understand the message. It's come across quite loudly from many different movies, and I'm tired of hearing it. But make no mistake, I fully understand the idea of ignorance. I would just like to hear some new messages instead of hearing the same one over and over. Please do not assume that I don't understand something. It's rude.
@redhabagat High quality 3D cartoons aren't cheap. It actually takes LONGER to make a high quality 3D movie than a high quality 2D movie. They still go frame by frame; the computers are a tool, not a magic wand that animates for them.
I personally prefer the 2D look to the 3D one, but I don't ignore the amount of work that goes into 3D.
@MissChelDorado well the thing is... people need to realize that the older 2d movies were so amazing...and spending all the extra time and money to make 3d isn't always worth it. there's no denying some of the new movies that have been 3d are good but i don't think that anything really compares to the older movies like this for example...lion king, aladdin, anastasia for one that's not disney. but ya...i really hope disney makes some new 2d films at some point
@fennaru Well they made princess and the frog, and it's rumored that there will be one called "king of elves" that will be 2D, so it's not all over. ;) Currently 3D is the fashion as far as animation goes. Hopefully 2D will come back into the spotlight again sometime. I sure miss it.
But I would contend some of pixar's films and recently How to Train your Dragon & Tangled can compare to the older movies. Especially Tangled. ;)
<3 Ahh, I love this song and movie. So much. This song always reminds me of my ex-girl friend, and best friend, and somehow makes me feel like a little girl all at once. I love the movies from my childhood.
I thought that voice was familiar. Sheena Easton was Sasha from All Dogs go to Heaven 2. That's why this song sounded a little familiar to ``I Will Always Be With You''.
It is romantic. If any of you think this is romantic, you should see a romantic video of Zak and Crysta that I've created. Just go on Youtube and type in "Zak and Crysta" love. If you want to see it just make sure that it's uploaded by me: Purelight6. I have a talent of making romance videos. If any one wants to see them just go on my channel and you'll find them. Please read the descriptions and please comment. Be careful, there's other stuuf in there that I've created that is not on romance.
great animation @1:52 that's the international female "if you want it come n get it face" (best G-rated way I can phrase it) but to the kids and even adults who are hopeless romantics don't give up on finding love cause its only impossible when you stop believing; don't forget you have to work for anything that is worth having but believe me its still out there
I agree with Shadowmoon on the top there, i wish someone would have told me too that love isnt like this when i was a kid, had big hopes, oh well its life i guess, like finding out about Santa and the tooth fairy...
this movie was amazing when i was growing up. i love this song to this day with all my heart. and the animation is beyond gorgeous!!! i'm an artist and live for doing sketches and drawing like this but this is INCREDIBLE!!!
So much memories....I remember I used to hold my breath from 0:17-0:44 just in case I get into a similary situation in the future ^_^ I sometimes hold it a bit longer in case the platipus at 0:35 wont be there to give me a boost in my swim in my situation hehe The player ate the VHS's film with me rewinding and forward coz Im trying to write the lyrics back then lol

You familar with European animated classics like Fantastic Planet or LightYears (aka Gandahar)? Cameron took from those as well since he is a fan of animation especially ones for adults like those. If not you should watch them here on youtube and you'll see that Cameron totally borrowed from those since he is a fan of those movies. Did Avatar also reminded you of Ghibli movies like Castle in The Sky (aka Laputa), Nausicaa and Mononoke as well?
Yes both Ferngully and Avatar are fantastic movie. Would you also compare Avatar to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Warriors of the Wind), Fantastic Planet, Star Wars, Last of the Mohicans, Willow, Wizards, LightYears (Gandahar), Princess Mononoke, Castle in The Sky (aka Laputa), Heavy Metal, Dune, Starchaser Legend of Orin and My Neighbor Totoro? Cameron also borrowed elements from those movies as well.
This song reminds me of the best girlfriend I ever had...but i had to let her go... I miss you Alexandra. The melody makes me so sad...yet uplifted at the same time...
@PickyfromTerminology Somewhere if you were to dig through the comments a year ago you'd see me saying almost the exact same thing. I was about 12 when this came out and I fell in love with Krysta the fairy. I mean her voice, her expressions, I wanted a woman just like her. She had features I would grow to seek in a woman. And I finally found one, who was pretty much the fairy minus the ears and wings, lol.
After 5 years, I lost her to someone else. Love and miss ya, Shanta.
Indeed! another 80's/early 90's kid like me. Indeed i was 10 years old when it came out in theaters and saw it twice, i had the hots for Crysta. Did you also like Cheetara from Thundercats, Adora or the other girls on She-Ra, Teela on He-Man, Taarna from Heavy Metal, Cleo from Heathcliff, or whatever 80's animated hotties there were? i did.
@Johnlindsey289 Lol yeah I had kid hots on several of those characters. Something's wrong with me, lol.
But Crysta was a special case. For whatever reason my puberty seemed to come at around the time I saw this movie, and I was attracted to the character's bubbly / naive personality. All I know is that I've been into petite brunettes first and foremost ever since. :D
Which of those girls do you like? do you like Taarna from Heavy Metal? i also like Gadget from Rescue Rangers. The girls on She-Ra were HOT especially Adora, Glimmer, Catra, Frosta and Mermista, remember them? Do you remember another cool Ferngully-esque animated movie from the 80's called Warriors of the Wind as a kid? it was a crude edit of Miyazaki's Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind from New World Pictures.
@Johnlindsey289 Leave it to youtube to bring out the cartoon fetishists. XD
I was in love with Crysta. But yeah I had the hots for some cartoon girls of my youth. The one from Heavy Metal who I liked the most was probably the one that Den gets (Don't recall the names). I thought Gadget was cute (come on now- if Disney didn't want kids getting confusedly attracted to cartoon mice, they wouldn't have given them curves!) and of course like everyone else I had the hots for April 'O Neil. Irma too.
But do you remember Warriors of the Wind aka the heavily butchered Nausicaa as a kid? almost any 80's kid like us did and it was America's introduction to Hayao Miyazaki. that was my fave animated movie as a kid but didn't know it was a butchery until i saw the uncut fansub tape in high school but still learned to accept Warriors of the Wind but good thing is now we have an uncut version called Nausicaa.
@spazalot1556 Me either I was just doing the same thing =/ stupid Sheena Easton she put all her bad songs on but not this? the best one of them all?! Well no monzy for her...
Did you know Cameron is a fan of animated movies, Rene Laloux and Miyazaki? it's true and he did borrowed from Ferngully, Castle in The Sky, Fantastic Planet, LightYears (Gandahar), Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Totoro and Time Masters. Did Avatar reminded you of all those movies in one?
I was 12 when this came out... nice flick, and a mighty good song from Sheena Easton, they just don't make them like that today. This movie also had a nice song from Elton John :-)
this is one of my favorite movies and avatar is now is one my favorite because of the beauty of forests and nature people should look at it and people should understand of the movies.
k can't say crysta didn't dream of tht moment the way she looked at zak all with love and passion im guessin she wished it could last forever my compliments on the people who made this movie
I'm absolutely in love with this movie still and I'm almost 21 xD They just don't make animated movies like they used to tragically. Thank god for the 80's and 90's movies <3
me too! I'm proud to say I'm 21 and I still watch these kind of movies, all these so-called Disney movies now-a-days are total crap compared to back then.
So obsessed with this scene, beautiful music :)

@griefingdemon137-Avatar was a mix of Fern Gully and Pocahontas (totally fucked that spelling) and maybe some other stuff.

Johnlindsey289 9 months ago
@griefingdemon137 But Thats ok love both movies!

@sohoodstar

PickyfromTerminology 1 year ago

Did you also like Cheetara from Thundercats, Adora or the other girls on She-Ra, Teela on He-Man, Taarna from Heavy Metal, Cleo from Heathcliff, or whatever 80's animated hotties there were? i did.
Johnlindsey289 9 months ago

Johnlindsey289 7 months ago
@Johnlindsey289 Leave it to youtube to bring out the cartoon fetishists. XD
I was in love with Crysta. But yeah I had the hots for some cartoon girls of my youth. The one from Heavy Metal who I liked the most was probably the one that Den gets (Don't recall the names). I thought Gadget was cute (come on now- if Disney didn't want kids getting confusedly attracted to cartoon mice, they wouldn't have given them curves!) and of course like everyone else I had the hots for April 'O Neil. Irma too.
Ratgrappler 7 months ago
@Ratgrappler
