  • Why is this spread over like ten different videos? UGH.

  • I own an 86 Mustang Lx 3.8 V6. I keep having to replace the solenoid and it's getting irritating. What it does is since it got cold outside, its when I turn the key to start it the solenoid gets stuck and keeps trying to start the car (until I yank the battery cable or hit the solenoid with the back of a screw driver). I've replaced the ignition, starter, and the control module on the steering wheel column. Not sure what's left, but wiring. Any suggestions???

  • Are you working on a model T Ford? The solenoid is attached to the starter.

  • Hey buddy thats awesome thank you very much 4 posting this video very usefull keep the good work man apreciate for the info

  • I am getting low voltage to my solenoid from this wire. No more than 8 volts. It will not even make the solenoid work to start my car. I am guessing my voltage regulator is bad.

  • Man needs to brush up on his electrical circuit terms, it tests the continuity of the circuit i.e if there are any short-circuits

  • Good video, but does Nathan always have to wear that hat?

  • great job on the video! very easy way to diagnose starter!

  • i have a 97 trans sport with 3400 v6 the van ran fine then had a slow start then started dieing on me while on brake or turning the wheel then it died and never started again i had alt checked was good the battery was leaking acid so i replaced still the same old click sound..???? wont turn over only makes starter click noise evan if u are geting a jump?? please help..

  • wow how does this guy have 138 756 video

  • replace it then.just unbolt two nuts

  • instead of the light, can we use a multi-meter to test continuity thought the command wire??

  • @saltydog78 Set the meter to DC volts place the positive lead on the command wire and the negative lead to the car body or battery negative.

  • its solenoid lmao but it is pronounce that way.

  • SEW- LUH- NOID.

    Not

    CELL UH NOID

  • good stuff i guess same idea on an 1986 sporty.

  • I have a 1998 Plymouth Voyager minivan

For about 6 months after trying to turn on the car all you got was clicking sound. Sometimes trying 3-4 times was enough to turn the car on and sometimes 30 (Click, click, click .....)

I asked in Yahoo Answers earlier what could be wrong with the car and many said it was the starter. Also a few people said the solenoid was the problem.

  • Anyways this morning I get in the car turn the ignition and I hear a click. SO like always I tried repeatedly (For 10-15 times non stop) and kept getting clicks, but all the sudden it went quiet and I got nothing by turning the ignition. I guess it finally died (Passed away LOL)

So what do you guys/girls think is the problem?

Is starter something that a person with no mechanical background can do? I have already located (Or I think I did) and it does not seem hard to reach

  • engine is seized

  • just replace them both

  • IM GOING WITH BATTERY

  • one question can you start a car thru the solenoid

  • hi, my truck doesnt start, when i turn the key on it doesnt do anything, all the lights work ,but it does start when i do it straight from the starter, does any body know waht it could be?

  • The solonoid on your starter probably isnt engageing the bendit gear inside of your starter motor...

  • that 1 is starter delay

  • They can be located on or off the starter. Depends on the car.

  • It's a starter relay not a solenoid.

  • Actually it is called a starter solenoid.. and then there is a usually a relay that goes in between the solenoid and ignition...

  • the starter solenoid would have to be on the starter to be a solenoid, so i think he might be right, a relay for a relay perhaps? I"m not an expert on the issue

  • it a solenoid and a relay retard same damn things the real name for it is the solenoid

  • A solenoid is on the starter and they have their own relay built inside.Oh what does a solenoid do that's right it takes electrical power and turns it into mechanical energy which pushes the pinon gear to the flywheel.

I guess all the relays in the main power box are solenoids too.

ballsniff13 thanks for providing no information you dumb shit.

  • Ampere is a unit of current not power...sorry just had to say it. (0:33)

  • i thought the same thing, lol

  • atleast tell them what iginition switch is the key
