@scotsmaninusa No, a shoebox is a shoebox. However, the Fords and Chevys of that era were both considered "shoebox" cars. The 265 was obviously not the first v8, but his knowledge of the tri-five cars is quite extensive.
meaning yes, its mounted correctly, but incorrect in the context of originality. the 55 &6 hoods are so beautiful, i hate seeing them compromised for the sake of 1/4 mile times. im working on a hinge on my 56 that will lift the back of the hood to release wake turbulence and then return to stop upon slower speeds.
the scoop is on right it catches more air that way u must be driveing to many fords making it face forward on that car wont get more air than it being backwards the air bounces off the windshield and makes a vortex and its shoved in the scoop as a vortex
You responded to wrong post, Chevy boy. I know the scoop is on right. At 13, I got a wild ride in a straight axle '55 Chevy Street Gasser, Gas was 32cents/gal. Still not as quick as my 1969 428 Super Cobra Jet Mach 1. The world was a different place back in the 60s - 70s.Factory muscle cars were everywhere. I owned alot of them @1969 pace car Camaro 396- 4 speed. 57 Chevys, 66- 67 Chevelles, none as fast as Ford Drag cars I had..Just keep workin' on Corvairs you'll get wiser with age, I did...
@1930FORDSEDAN got a 56 belair first car dad bought it new ,,,i have 8 corvairs blast to drive ,oh i also have a 69 mach 1 tang its fun too dad had a 67 and 71 chevelle ,,corvairs are the easy to drive i have fun with all of them
An American Beast... he's right, this made it all.. wasn't a great race car, but it came around. I would of hit 100 and kicked the unless interviewer out the door.. and said.. "oh, Uh.. did that hurt, oh really? Did it feel like you rolled at 50mph"?
You made the comment about this car "lacking corner ability". We have a 55 chevy that we put on a special-made corvette frame...AMAZING corner ability!
yes, but the first small block Chevrolet came out in 1955, 265cid

@classicmetalworks not really.1917 was the first chevy v8 but GM did one 3 year before in the caddy.a shoebox was a ford.

The first V8 made by Chevrolet was in 1917
Series D Engine, 288 Cid 36 HP(net)
As per Chevrolet, they put out around 3000 V8 motors between 1917-1919.
Of course the gentleman driver is also correct. Chevrolet came out with the V8 again in 1955 and the rest is history.
