@Rep843 Jones and Hopkins were both past there prime when he fought them, and I don't believe he would have beat at their peak. But you can only fight who is around to fight at your time, and Calzaghe is good and has had spectacular fights. The Kessler fight was an amazing fight, and there are others too. I don't think we can say overrated, but unlucky as there wasn't the fighters around for him to truly prove himself against.

I am not exactly a big fan of Calzaghe, but I give him his due credit. And I DON'T hate him. I used to be big Calzaghe hater, calling him a coward etc. But please, don't go wasting your time hating. I ain't a fan of Mayweather either, but I wouldn't want to waste my time saying derogatory things about him either. Let's be fair, I can't say he is the greatest British fighter just because he is undefeated, but he is definitely one of the best out of Britain, no questions! And, I am NOT A BRIT.

After the Battle of Britain you guys were at the lowest numbers (both in soldiers and money) that you've ever been in the modern years. If Hitler's Germany were able to attack again they would have swiped Britain's army out in a matter of months. The reason they weren't able to attack again is because the U.S and the Soviets were purposely keeping them from attacking the weaker Britain.

@Nonpeon Whether they are full British or part British. What I mean by " In some way" was that they have a least some British blood, seeing as most Americans are of mixed ethnicity. The British were the original colonizers, and established the American government. British are probably the most entrenched ethnicity in America. There are many Irish, German and Dutch also. Then you have blacks, Hispanics etc. But our founding fathers were almost all British.

A little-known fact is that there was an agreement betwixt Spain, England and France to divvy up the territory of the new world. Hence Spain occupied lands to the West, and colonized Mexico. France occupied the South, and England the East coast. Hence it can be argued that we're just as French and Spanish as British. Nuff said.

@Nonpeon The French mostly ousted in the 7 years War, and the Spanish who immigrated to the South were primarily sent back after the Mexican War. This is not to say that some French and Spanish have been here since the beginning. But British ancestry is still overwhelmingly more represented.

It makes sense to think that most ppl r British descent in the US, they won their independence from Britain not France or Spain. The Spanish had a bigger involvement in south America.

@Rep843 Jones and Hopkins were both past there prime when he fought them, and I don't believe he would have beat at their peak. But you can only fight who is around to fight at your time, and Calzaghe is good and has had spectacular fights. The Kessler fight was an amazing fight, and there are others too. I don't think we can say overrated, but unlucky as there wasn't the fighters around for him to truly prove himself against.

@translate36 You seem oblvious to the fact that Calzaghe was also past his prime just as much as those two. During their prime they wouldn't fight him because he was a risk and little known in the US and there was no money in it. Calzaghe wanted to fight them both for years. Almost sealed it with Hopkins years before they acctually fought but they didn't sign because the money wasn't right. Boxing is becoming more about the money than the sport. Prime Jones Jr Vs Prime Calzaghe = gooood fight.

I think Joe is overrated. A good fighter (without a doubt) but I notice a lot of Brits put him on a pedestal just because hes from England. I never understood that.
