I was at this show...got my chest smashed by a gate guard big bruising fellow. The crowd surged because they were searching people one by one...crazy........still love the dead
jerry a forgettin the words...and whats with Jerry in the middle..Bobby was always center stage??!! Jerry always said...you want to know what I'm thinking...listen to what I'm playing....
great song.. but version on dead set is the sickest.. and Robert Hunter is the greatest songwriter of all time... truly..and Jery the best , most underrated guitarists ever...
boring the dead are far from boring the most interesting band in history. Read about all the things they did first. Or just watch you tube videos. Why do u think they are the most successful live band in history
This is so sweet... If this is the first show of the run... then it is the first show I ever saw... audio is phenomenal... What a place to see a show... The best venue I ever experienced. Unfortunately they just outgrew it after the release of Touch of Grey and the addition of all the Touchheads. I will never forget these 3 shows.
@Nightwithe jerry and the dead were and are and will never be boring kid go pick you nose and eat it bc apparently thats are they excitement you get al damn day.
saw this tour at alpine w bob dilan 4days in a row.was excellent as well.they played mpls the night before andthan we rented motorhome for alpine trip
hey captainblubber, freunde haste keene wah. aber wohl 'n "gun" wie jerry 'kameleficker' garcia mal sang. bei den linke hippies deine nicht existierende freunde.
This song was played w lots of power in 1987 . Most versions shine greatly If ever id find a video of Park City UT Aug 20 , 87 , Id smile eternally . That has one of my favourite versions of the song , and one of the strongest & tightest 1st sets of 80s or 90s Dead i ve heard .. Cracker , the band from Arizona additionally ( i think they re from there play a REALLY great cover version of this song ] Thanks for posting this great piece of GD history
I was at that park city show summer of 87'.....that whole tour was fantastic....simply wonderful memories and the mountain aire ending with Morning Dew was icing on the cake.......thanks for the reminder of Utah, great show
man jerry is and always will be the best musician ever complete package..love hendrix, zep, doors etc.. nothin compares......i can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shinesssssss..
Great song, and performance. Always been interested in this odd song - lyrics lifted from Flatt & Scruggs, but then take off into the stratosphere - and those startling harmonics in the start of Jerry's solo. Can't remember the version I have in which basically the entire the solo is harmonics. He can really squeeze every last bit of soul out of a single string. Sort of an orphan/masterpiece of a song.
My god, one of the best Garcia/Hunter pieces ever. What a ballad! Yes, would love to get my hands on the Terrapin from this show. Thanks for the great post.
kind sir: do you know the audio source for this? it sounds better than the f-ed up healy matrix, or any of the circulating auds I have heard. very nice.
Many people consider the Terrapin from this night to be the finest ever played. Certainly it is the best I have heard, and one of my top show moments. The ending "fanfare" section is psychedelic beyond words.
