You know its funny: I went on one of my favorite sites and looked up "Hollywood Squares" to see if they had anything about the incident with this champion and why he couldn't compete on this show. Can anyone explain to me why the champion WASN'T allowed to compete on it and does anyone have this episode in full with the explanation?
later gang
P.S. I LOVE the music in this version as opposed to it being mostly mute on the nighttime show
now see that's an interesting rule to have for a game show especially one like HS. Generally the questions asked are kind of "general knowledge" or something of that nature so I don't see why he was blocked and he was the defending champion. Maybe I just found it odd because GSN showed mainly the nightime version so I didn't know this version had a returning champion or not but oh well
thanks for the clarification and I appreciate the reply
@Amisbro I think that after the game show scandal in the 50s, that each network's S&P watchdogs set strict rules that all the games had to abide by... :)
I getcha and that DOES make sense! It wouldn't be fair if the guy WAS asked a question related to them or something and he would flat know if they were bluffing or not.
again thanks for setting the record straight. I just had to ask because the clip cuts off after Peter mentioned the Lennon Sisters.
@Tubewings From what Perer inferred, the champion was ineligible to be on the show, but was going to return the following Monday, which was to the benefit of his Challenger (She was down 1 game to him, but started over with a clean slate)...
@WREYtube Now that I think about it, maybe he was wearing it as a tribute of sorts to Sparky Anderson (who had managed the Reds until he was fired at the end of the '78 season and became the Tigers' manager in at the start of the '79 season).
Did both versions of this show used this disco theme for HS?

@Tubewings Plus, Sparky had guest starred the week before on WKRP as himself in the aptly-titled episode "Sparky."
