  • Slow down that vibrato! Please, for the love of GOD!

  • In fairness to her, I always forget where I am in this boring aria...sorry, it's just not my favorite Verdi aria. There's video of Maureen O'Flynn (a very accomplished singer with a fine career) making the very same mistake.

  • She looks like a sweet young lady and her voice is really not that bad. With some work she will get it.

  • Sounds a little far back and pushed, but she does have a nice timbre. If she corrects those, she won't be so pitchy. But really, not very funny.

  • Um I really liked it until she was hitting the hi ho hi ho hi ho notes... Sounded like a monkey a bit. But other then that she was great and the faces she make are so cute yet funny. She makes faces like that because her mouth is very small and she doesn't want to stress it. It takes a lot of muscles just to move a certain part of your face and she has to use them all to get the right notes..

  • The girl really has potential, just give her some time to develop! What's her name? 56Yeya

  • JAJAJAJA the funniest par 4:35, besides she didn't reach the high E, and the worst part she did the most difficult cadenza, that kind of cadenzas are not for students

  • well it's a student rendition she needs to practice a lot i mean it

  • i think that the funny part is the vibrato, without it would be a good rendition

  • She needs to squeeze a bit harder for my ears!

  • I love it, I never laughed so hard ( the left breast things)! , no but seriously its a little advanced for her. And wow what a vibrato .

  • BRAVA! This very young girl did an excellent job. I guarantee you that every single hater - including the joker who posted it and all the other videos of young singers and opera singers in distress - have never sung a professional note.

  • hehe prometi no reime y falle! No seamos tan malos :p

  • Funny? and then "very funny?". Not at all ! Of course, it's not perfect and the technique is to be much improved, but don't you have ears to hear her beautiful voice? give her some time and she will be a very good singer.

  • I'm not sure what the hell is so damned funny. The kid has talent, for crissakes. Proper coaching and time will tell.

  • Maybe the poster was thinking of Victor Borge's skit with this song...at the start all I could think of was "hand of the piano." Anyways that skit is hilarious--like others are saying there's nothing funny in this.

  • There's nothing funny about this. Her voice teacher should be shot.

  • I thought she did very well. She has a lovely vibrato and a beautiful middle and high range. Why is it funny? Any real singer knows that singing in front of your peers is the most difficult setting to perform in, so I think messing up a few notes should be understandable. We've all done it.

  • I think who post the video thought her expressions while she was singing were funny...

But her interpretation was pretty far OK....

    she indeed has potential...

  • Gee, she's at least better than kathy battle.....

  • I would like to know where´s the funny part?...

  • @ezayi I was wondering the same thing

  • @ABK2687 It gets on my nerves when people are so mean. Experience have taught me that precisely those who really can´t say anything, are the ones that criticize the others.

  • @ezayi i agree

  • I don't know whether those writing that it's NOT FUNNY know anything about singing or opera, but simply listen and watch from 4:46 up to 4:57: very funny indeed! She massacres the whole cadenza! And the voice, BTW full of vibrato, becomes awfully horrendous in the FFF passages. Funny! But understanding music is maybe too much to expect from those criticizing BRIVIDOKALDO! Thanks for posting!

  • @GoldenAgeSunshine Post yours singing this aria. Im sure you sound better... yeah right!

  • If my daughter could do a tenth as well as this I would be over the moon.

Not funny at all! Just an excellent try at a very difficult aria.

  • She has problems with pitch and she does sing off key, but at least her voice is lovely.

  • how is this funny? i fail to see the humor in this...

  • Beautiful timbre, but not the best stylistically. And that excessive vibrato turns me off.

  • what's so funny imbecile ??

  • she sang out of tune sometimes, but it´s not a disaster

  • I think the aria is not for her type of voice but she did a decent job....

  • The funny part is at the beginning, where she is consistently sharp. Plus some rather twitchy vibrato. Not an obvious fail though, definitely.

  • She is great with beautiful timbre. Nothing 'funny' with her singing. Very musical.

Technically difficult aria, I would like to hear yo sing it...

  • i think this is very funny indeed.., but of course she was student, but no one can say that the last part when she tries to do the high D is not funny. althought she sings very nice.

  • very nice voice..

  • I guess that she was an student. Her voice is very nice. Her vibrato could have been because she was a little nervous. If she forgot a part, well, what can I say? It have happened to every singer -students and professionals-. We can't be cruel because she didn't arrive to E5. Students must make their performances to gain experience and to understand that, if they make little mistakes, it's not the end of the world. I have listened "professional singers", that can't sing this aria properly.

  • Lovely voice, just a little nerves!

  • poor girl, totally losing the pitch after she lost her note. not funny, though. you should remove this

  • poor girl, totally losing the pitch after she lost her note. not funny, though. you should remove this

  • poor girl, totally losing the pitch after she lost her note. not funny, though

  • All you guy are looking and listening tooo hard!! lol if you just look shallow look and think shallow. Thats the joy of humor it can be found in the immature things that are coincidental and no big deal. dont take things to heavy guys dang. As a vocalist yes my opinion is that she does a good job at an aria thats very hard she has great potential. BUT for half of the aria she grabbed her left breast and held it there just saying its true and probally a nevous habbit but true. lighten up guys

  • @elic2real yea fro 1:44 to about 4:15

  • i think her vibrato is nervus... to me is like that.... scary....and is a hard area...so.... not funny

  • she sings very well.....this aria should be maybe sung more legeiramente. But oncemore again i think she will have future.....and she is beautiful as well.

May I ask you. Do you know about singing? If yes, maybe you are a female singer ???

  • Still not seeing the funny part. I've seen a lot worse. If you want some funny facial expressions, find any Cecilia Bartoli video.

  • who is she! love the voice! would love to hear her Brunnhilde...

  • She has one of the strongest and most powerful soprano operatic voices I think I've ever heard. I'll admit it was just a little funny when she looked for the note, but seriously the piece was extremely well performed. People should not be looking down on her.

  • all due respect, narrow register, she doesn't even get close to the high notes, her vibrato is terrible regardless of any other technic missing, and the diction, luck for her that she is not (I assume) english speaker...

  • @Beathame88 Her vibrato is incredible! I dont know what the hell your hearing but you WISH you had that vibrato, its flawless. And YES she does make it too the high notes very well, dont piss me off!

  • @Beathame88: You're hating. This girl has a fabulous talent.

  • What do you have against this woman? You love her but she doesn´t loves you? She was your girlfriend and she cheated on you? Are you a singer too but she is the beloved student of your vocal teacher? Did she makee your boyfriend break with you? I don´t know even if you are male or female.are you male and want to have her female body? You feel living on a wrong body? You are female and declared your love to her but she is not homosexual? Comm´on, read a book or go to theraphy.

  • I would love to hear her sing "UN BEL DI", I think that she would make a very good Madam Butterfly, both vocally and visually!

  • I'd love to hear this girl sing Wagner... She has an extremely attractive sound... It has the "something" that I love in my favorite sopranos... And let's face... We've all relied on more than one pianist to give us our note... You can tell this girl would blow us out of our chairs if she opened up... Love it.

  • ahahahahahah ma che cazzo ha combinato!!!!!

  • the funny part is at about 3:00 where she has to look at the pianist to give her note. But yes I would say she has a very nice voice.

  • I watched this video twice, but I can't find anything funny about it, it may not be a perfect rendition of the aria, but if it is a student performance you wouldn't expect it to be, but she certainly has a beautiful voice!

  • she sounds good to me!

  • For a student performance, this is really pretty good. I wonder where this young woman is now.

  • Solid work! She may not be Sumi Jo, but the world definitely needs more of voices like that!

  • isn't the vibrato to fast??and to much?

  • @gayo72 That is a simple matter of taste. The only problem I heard was that she didn't find the note for one entrance and the pianist had to give it to her

  • @gayo72 That is a simple matter of taste. The only problem I heard was that she didn't find the note for one entrance and the pianist had to give it to her. She is also not always in tune and doesn't have the high note in the cadenza. But she has a lot of potential

  • She is attempting to sing a very difficult area and it's not funny. Good job. She had trouble finding her note in the middle, also her facial expression and vocal placement need work. Overall, I would not find anything funny in this clip. A good student, with a nice voice. The one who posted is is not very nice.

  • I liked it. Is it funny because she is asian? Vote up if you liked this piece and dont vote down because the poster is retarded.

  • What's so funny? she sings really well!

  • Qual a graça do video?

  • obviously the person who posted this is a soprano who sucks and is jealous of a relatively good young singer.

  • I agree! the over-dramatisation and expression are comical and she appears to be holding herself up hanging on to the piano..when she hits the high notes (beautiflully)she so funny too..Groucho Marx woudl have loved this rendition!! the voice is beautful but the dramatic presentation flew away with her like a big heavy bird.!!.

  • What so funny about it?

  • funny? no - a little miscast maybe - possibly good in a few years time - perhaps nervous - but funny? no

  • I'm afraid the joke is lost on me also: she sings lovely This aria is surely not a walk in the park for any singer

  • if you want to see a wreal funny caro nome: watch victor borge and marylin mulvey doing this.

Now THATS funny!! but thats comedy. this is a student singer trying to do her best.

Ok she needs help in the middle, and the vib is pretty fast ( all true).

but the voice has much potential. And how said singing was easy??

    lets think again!!

  • Actually this video should not be called "funny "but "wrong" and here's why for them who didn't understand:

-She's changing all the score(take a look at it you'll be surprised!)

-She doesn't have the technique to sing it(the scales should be sung a lot faster, she is sometimes out of tune and she doesn't have appoggio)

-The cadenzas are wrong(she should have sung an Eflat staccato and not a Csharp).

  • Gosh, clearly lots of non-singers posting comments below. Her vibrato is both fine and acceptable. That level of vibrato is highly valued in late baroque work. Don't diss unless you can do better guys, seriously. And no, it's not chevroletan vibrato... it's too stable to be that. Gosh, you guys really need to get better teachers if that's what you think.

  • yikes

  • I can reccomend her to some sheppard in Sardinia. With her vibrato she could be very useful if they need to reserch some lost ship!

  • 3:06 = what's this?

  • Her vibrato is that called chevroletans, very fast ones, goaty....wrong technique...

  • @daphnebeloved if very fast vibrato is wrong, what to say about Leontyne Price, Renata Tebaldi and so many others singers with heavier voices?

  • a very beautiful voice though...and intonation is not bad

  • You're doing great- keeping working at it!

  • I was reading at the coments and I didn't understand, then I looked at the video. Her voicing fantastic, it taken a lot of years to reach the top. She's not at the top yet but she can reach it.

  • WONDERFUL!

  • She's splendida, she loose her concentration at the moment the pianist makes some gutural sounds. She has all the time to learn and practice.

  • vibrato caprino

  • Her vibrato sounds like a trill...the entire TIME

  • I dont think its funny. She is just learning and you gotta start somewhere? Mabue she doesnt have to start here though :) get a better teacher girl! it will do you a WORLD of good!

    maravillosa voz!

  • what a voice!!!

  • who says she is bad and funny?

  • what was the future of this girl? - as this video has taken 16 years ago.

  • Beautiful voice - but it is moments when I get very upset with people who should not be teaching!!! She was misguided by a very poor teacher. A good mentor would correct her mistakes and it would be beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • Needs a better teacher. There IS a voice in there. Note the strong "bottom" to this instrument but she trys to take it "up" with her. Keep trying sweetie!!!!!! Try more Mozart. Work on the breath! Work on the breath!! Work on the breath!!! Being pretty does help!!!

  • well, this is funny. If you know the aria, you can hear why. She doesn't know the words, her voice is shrill and ugly, she doesn't reach the notes. and she forgot the middle-part. Very funny. especially how she lets the audience celebrate herself after such a terrible performance.

  • No funny its very very magnificent

  • nono, after examining the WHOLE thing, ofcz she IS NOT alrite -_- she can't reach some important high notes, that's funny. But, gd job, not many women can sing this song, say my mother

  • she's alrite!

  • This kind of deliberate virtuosity is more suited to eighteenth century arias than nineteenth. But then, presumably the earliest performances of Verdi would often have had similar archaic features. I found this a very interesting performance, showing up just what was new about Verdi.

I don't think 'funny' does this performance justice at all.

  • I´d love to ask those who had ¨"fun" watching this girl sing what exactly did they find funny. I see a very hard aria, sang relatively well. Obviously she has a great and beaufitul voice. Rather big for the role but nothing funny about it. Please enlighten me, I don´t get it. As singer, I find this girl with a great potential, outstanding diction and a very nice tone.

  • She sang it very well but you gotta admit....her facial expressions are funny and she seems to have a lazy eye...also near the end she kinda screwed up and sounded like a bird.

PS:I wanna pinch her cheeks >.>

  • facial expressions, and grabbing her own breast for >1 min.

    Gerardo B.

  • tis indeed hilarious. can't stop pissing myself XD

  • Obviously this is a sudent singer, with an enormous potential . Nothing to be considered funny, but all to do is to praise her as the audience did, encouraging this young lady to continue her career. She has, of course, the essential to be successful: a good and beautiful voice. Hélas, if we have people who considers some understandable mistakes as "funny". God help them... or as we use to say here in Brazil, "os cães ladram e a caravana passa..." Parabéns, jovem cantora!

  • she is not perfect, but she has a very

beautiful voice. Just needs to adjust her

technhique!!! I dont see whats so funny!

She obviously tried her best on a very

    difficult song!!!

  • I don't see the fun in this video. Can you explain to me where the funny part is?

  • @ejrouge

    agree,!

  • the rapid-fire vibrato's gotta go! Baaaaaaad!

  • If there's a joke here, I don't get it. The young lady has a very pleasant soprano--a bit weak in her lower range, but her aria was well executed--articulate with very good breath and vibrato control. Too bad the poster didn't give her name--she's worth watching! All the best in her studies and her (hopeful) operatic career!!

  • Not perfect by any means, but if you think her voice is totally devoid of quality, then you must be deaf.

  • Ditto. She uses her voice quite well and if she sticks with it she can have a professional career if her voice is large enough to fill an opera house. Mein Gott, this is just a student recital. A lot to work with there. Who is it exactly that thinks this is funny? w3

  • The young student is very good. She certainly has beautiful voice and with training she will go a long way.

Why is it so funny? Let's be fair to her.

  • Personally, I don't see what's so very funny...

I love her singing- she's a young student, such as myself (except for the fact that she's a voice student and I'm a young piano student...) and I found her singing absolutely marvelous- you could tell that this is simply a grand work.

  • OK- maybe I'm quite a bit younger, but her singing is still pretty good!

  • whats so funny ?

  • We don't know...

  • Sounds like an advanced student trying her best and for the most part, singing very well. Maybe her stage presence wasn't great and she messed up a cadenza, but who's perfect as a young singer? The audience sure seemed to be pleased.

Ah, if only more people sympathized with how hard it is to sing this music...

  • Maybe the "funny" things were the cadenzas that weren't correctly done. I'm not to say that you can't sing a cadenza any way you want, but she accidently started the first cadenza too soon and didn't quite finish the last cadenza with the correct pitches either (according to the traditional ones). Her voice is beautiful, and otherwise.. nothing is "funny" about her singing.

  • Um... I have no idea why this is "very funny" this young woman has a lot of potential and sang well.

  • She's just a young student. and she's not in MET or SCALA! She did her best. I can sure cruel commenters here are totally racists!

  • Racists? They're internet users looking for a flame war, and they've found it.

  • this is not funny. she sounds good alot of edge, like wht tenoreDB said a lil more study with a vocal coach.

  • and whats so funny about this??

when I read the title i expected cracks, funny diction , off key notes etc..... OK its not perfect but she has the voice to do it. A little more study with a vocal coach on this aria and she does it great.

Shame for the one who posted it with that title!!

  • It isn't funny, she is a promise to be fulfilled, posting this video is mean and silly, grow up!

  • ok I don't mean to disagree with everyone who thinks this is funny but this girl will eventually be able to sing this aria really well. Yeah she may be a bit young to sing something like this but she shows great promise of being great when she gets her technique and maturity up to the level where this is an appropriate aria for her

  • 4:50 - 4:54 An alarm!!

  • Humiliated? She got asked to bow a second time. She sucks but I have heard worse... truly. And on pro stages.

  • Not funny at all, she is great, just needs to adjust her tecnhique alittle bit, she has beautiful voice.

  • I don't think its funny!! She just needs to adjust her technique. Poor girl to be humiliated like this!

  • ahahahah :D

  • Comment removed

  • This wasn't funny... She's a young student, singing a difficult aria and finding her voice....

  • I agree. Nice voice, maybe a little young for this extremely difficult aria but great job I think.

  • are you from Latvia? I live here and I didn't know that anyone who know something about opera singing surfs internet, I guess it was silly, because know a lot about it.

  • Oh, I get it. She jumped at 2:35 to the runs that precede the "cuckoo clock" section. She realizes this, looks at the pianist who gives her the note, and she goes back to the "e fin l'ultimo" bit she'd skipped. Then she seems to chicken out of going for the D sharp after the staccati in the cadenza, which throws off her downward arpeggio. Getting lost can happen to anyone i.e. Te Kanawa's "Dove sono" at the Met Gala. Not criticizing, but it is sort of funny. Been there.

  • What's so funny about this video? She has a beautiful, very easy lirico-leggero voice, which faces some technique problems and needs guidance. Or do you all think that singers are born with this perfect voices you hear (or don't hear) on your cd players?

  • I don't think this is funny....she has a good voice there and it sounds like a big voice...what is she, 18? Give her a break!

  • really funny..:) I had my laugh at the end!

  • eww. her intonation is whack.

  • Comment removed

  • this is a difficult aria, and she looks young, so give her another 3 or 4 years and let's hear it again! I think there should be a circle of hell reserved for those who criticize performances that are obviously meant to be part of the learning process.

  • Comment removed

  • Whoa! Gook? Print that on a canteloupe, then shove it where the sun don't shine, you ignorant racist small-minded pinhead.

  • You're, what, Aryan Nation? Then I hope your house gets repossessed.

  • My comment was meant for Zafireh!

  • Beautiful voice! Technique needs some work but nothing funny here....

  • muy bonito canta muy bien

  • exelente!!!!! very funny? no! exelente!!!!

  • Very funny? Where? I see an attractive vocal student singing a classic aria, with a voice, while not technically perfect, is beautiful, who appears to have a bright future. What's funny?

  • So, where was the "funny?" I played the video expecting to get a good laugh. But I only heard and saw a pretty girl singing beautifully.

  • I respect your experience; however, not EVERY foreign student is rich. Asia is a huge continent; from Indonesia, Pakistan, Laos, to Japan , even Siberia, dozens of nations are in Asia. Of course, to study in Europe costs much more than in their native countries, but many of them get scholarships due to their performance in international competitions (in recent decades, more and more top winners are from Asia). Schools need future international super stars to boost their reputation, don't they?

  • does opening the mouth that big help in any way??

  • HAHA! Ok, the ending was pretty funny... But honestly she's not that bad. Just another student-- we all make some funny noises along the way!

  • this isnt all that bad...its not like, mainstage ready or anything, but she sounds like most voice students I've heard while ive been studying: probably nervous, singing a aria that is from a role she wouldnt sing yet, but would sing further in the future, a little fluttery and uneven.

But it certainly doesnt deserve very funny
