I've listened to the 'Quiet Life' and 'Gentlemen Take Polaroids' albums quite extensively recently and there's probably only one or two songs which sound anything like something you'd find on a Duran Duran album. The only resemblance that 'Quiet Life' has with 'Planet Earth' is that they both use a similar arpeggiator synth, the similarities stop there. 'Halloween' sounds like a Duran Duran song, but only because of it's instrumentation.

Japan in the same sentence as Duran Duran outrageous, Japan were more musically talented as natural musicians compared to Duran Duran, I think you'll find Duran Duran copied Japan in the way they styled themselves especially their keyboard player Nick rhodes who blatantly ripped of Sylvians hair style and attempted to emulate his look's, other than Richard Barbieri the rest of the band were not musically trained, and to this day Mick Karn is viewed as one of the best bass players in the world.

@U2ROPA I won't disagree that Duran Duran (and other acts) were influenced by Japan but Duran's first two albums are still fantastic ("Duran Duran" and "Rio"). The only reason they get slated by certain people is because they were "pretty boys" in the 80s and because of how much mainstream exposure their lackluster third album got. Their new album "All You Need Is Now" is also great and it fits nicely with the sound of their first two albums. For the record, I love Japan too. Pure innovators.
