They do fix it. The problem is Halo 3 which messes up the connection at this point in the time and caused some peoples NAT's to be classed as Strict by the console (This prevented Private chat, partying etc.)

Plus we got free MS points for those who have a general intelligence and keep upto date with events (through 1 vs 100).

That's what this guy's talking about. The servers already are shitty and laggy. The bottom line is, Microsoft might have to make it free to compete soon. Both PS3 and Wii are free online. And they both have their fair share of problems. But with Xbox Live you get both problems and a $7 a month fee. That's not much to pay. But, eventually, people are going to grow tired of paying over $50 a year on a program that doesn't quite give them their money's worth. If it's free, they won't care.
