  • about how long does it take to o a rabbit this way? and this way of shearing is is better then using clippers someone said is this true?

  • wow. thanks for sharing how to do this. I am going to get a english angora bunny as a family pet in a couple of months and i want to learn to do this. I never even knew you could do this til I was doing research on them. this stuff is so neat and so cool!!!! thanks so much!!!!

  • I love this video....wish I had my own rabbit to sheer for yarn.

  • r u tring to kill that bunny!

  • That thing is huge! Thats not a rabbit, thats a sheepdog! D=

  • This is what I want to do with my life ! :)

  • I have to laugh at the people who are upset at how she lifted the rabbit and if he has a name. How do you think the mommy rabbit picks up the kits since she does not have thumbs??? As far as a name, I have a 9 month old male white French Angora rabbit named Freddie. I'm sure she has names for her rabbits. The vid was to show shearing. I know several people who have angora rabbits and they shear with scissors also. Shears are expensive for people who don't have many animals.

  • He is so docile! My 3-month-old GermanxSatin doe will not hold still for me, even just to pet her in my lap.

  • HOLY CRAP! LOOK OUT!

There's a HUGE WHITE MONSTER ON YOUR LAP!

    LOL!

Just joking. Seriously - I've never seen such a huge bunbun in my life!

  • Could you not think of a kinder way to lift your rabbit out of his enclosure? I was very shocked to see you scruff him. What was the need for that?

  • No pressure, Miss Debbie, but I am hoping that this video helps me save my rabbit! I have a 9-week-old French Angora and here in Colorado it just jumped from the 60's to the 90's in one week, and I do not have adequate cooling systems in place (thought I did...*sigh*) I've got a hutch in the shade, frozen water bottles and cool blowing fans, I mist her ears through the day...but I'm afraid it's not enough. My little kit is getting shaved tonight!!!

  • It's so clear that that rabbit is accustomed to being handled. Great job. Folks who don't knit or spin, probably have little idea how much that single clipping is worth in retail stores. (smile) Good job on showing how it can be done.

  • 3:58 is priceless!!!

  • Umm Just a heads up to anyone doing this, but you will probably need a face mask just so the little bunn hairs don't get into your nose. Also if you are grooming the bunny you have to make sure that you don't cut too close. Actually I highly doubt that most of the viewers will actually get the fur this way

  • Thank you so much for this video. We purchased two jersey woolies and one french angora. Your bunny is 100x's calmer than our 10 week old angora. Ours has great personality but does not want to sit for grooming. I should sheer ours as you are doing.

  • i'm so glad you didnt kill the rabbit

  • Did you do the tummy yourself? Did he stay still for you?

  • Using scissors to sheer a rabbit is ignorant and dangerous. Use REAL sheers!!

  • @MeowMorrigan I have to agree with you on the scissors. I work with fabric all day so I know how sharp those friskars are. They should be blunted on the end with rubber tips. Sheers are the best way to do it. If it is something you are going to do over a long period of time with several rabbits, you should invest in the safety of your animals by buying sheers. If you have to use scissors they should as I said, be blunted with rubber tips.

  • Thank you - this youtube is full of great info. I have and angora rabbit and cnnot wait to harvest the hair.

  • Wow that rabbit is HUGE!

  • dang Patti you do it all girl. very established young lady. thanks for the videos

  • Adorable huge rabbit. I hope the people that make comments on here about the way Patti treats the rabbit do NOT eat animal flesh at ALL. That said I grow my own chickens(for food) and abhor the way commercial farms treat their fowl. Patti appears to treat the domestic animals she has extremely well(you go girl!) and these animals are bred for human use(although some humans take that to mean they can be cruel)

  • It's hard to tell whether she is attached to this bunny or not. Just grabs him out of his cage roughly and calls him buck the whole time. Doesn't he have a name? I guess at least he's not brutally murdered for his fur. Seems like her interest in this poor animal is solely for all the knitting she can do for all and asunder. People r so messed up. I know it could be so much worse.

  • @roxianealexander Animals aren't as sensitive as humans I doubt that the rabbit was hurt by her grabbing him. Besides this isn't a pet it's livestock why does she need to name it? The angora isn't being ripped out, it's hair that the rabbit was shedding and she's taking it out. I'm sure the rabbit doesn't care that she uses it for knitting, it gets fed, it's safe, it has somewhere to play, pretty normal life for a rabbit. Slow your role dude and visit a farm

  • most likely he enjoyed it. shes in a tshurt so not likely the cooler time of year and he just shrunkhavent seen that since i gave a maltese a bath went in a puff ball came out looking like a chiwawa

  • An angora rabbit was bread for the trait of long hair. As long as he was not sheered in cold weather he is not uncomfortable. Also if you notice he did not fight or try to escape during the process as he loved the attentions. This was no different than clipping the excess hair off of a pet dog. In fact if he was not clipped he would have probably gotten matted up.

  • @sweetgem123 angora rabbits need combing and shearing - especially in summer when they have heavy shedding season. They might ended up with fur ball in thier tummy that might cause a deadly GI stasis and blockage that is often deadly. The long fur could also cause mess and tangles if the rabbit is not brushed often enough. I owner of 2 bunnies myself and even though they're no angora but medium fur bunnies, they do require lots of brushing.

  • woow. thats really cool! i like how the rabbit is so relaxed and everything. i wish we could shear my persian cat that way, but he will get testy after a bit. but you really shouldnt lift him by the neck like that. when theyre that big, the neck isnt able to sustain the weight and it can easily snap.

  • "Make him look prettier"............ that was a funny thing to say when you have just deliberately made him look like a freak!!!!

  • U CANT LIFT IT BY THE NECK!!!

U CAN ONLY DO THAT WHEN THEY ARE BABY BUNNIES!

THAT HURTS REALLY MUCH ON THEM

  • @Darkwolfbelly You are so right .....I was shocked to see this. Any true animal lover /carer knows this !!!

  • @Darkwolfbelly Agree!!!!!!!

  • So, she's making him a hat that will keep him warm...

By shearing him the fur that keeps him warm...

  • SHE IS BASICALLY SHAVING S RABBIT RIGHT BEFORE WINTER!!! HE IS GOING TO DIe :"(

  • @Labuser247 i don't think you should worry i think that he is kept inside i don't think that she's that stupid

  • @Labuser247 : What makes you think it was right before winter????

  • @michelesfibers well she must do it all year. if she didnt she wiyld make enough money

  • @Labuser247 She has more than one rabbit, you can see that in the video. How much money is enough? Angora sells for at least $6 per oz. Most of them get sheared twice a year. Maybe 3 times. That is what these animals are for, their fiber. Just like sheep, alpaca, angora goats, etc. I'm sure she has a way of housing the rabbits in the winter time sheared or not.

  • omg!!! the rabbit all sheared at the end looked sooo sad!!! and adorable

  • @ilanakhatsk: all animals that are bred for fiber look like that after shearing. It grows back. It does not hurt them.

  • Love your videos! You are an amazing lady. New to knitting and was wondering Do you sell your yarn? I am interested in buying some....Please let me know. Keep doing what your doing b/c you are happy and it shows.

  • You are an amazing woman! Thank you for keeping the old arts alive, and available to us via new technology. I didn't even know you could BUY spinning wheels. (other vids of yours) It's on my christmas list now.

Your rabbit looks well cared for. That hat is made with love from the very start!

Mad props to you lady. Keep the knowledge alive!

  • how long does it take for it to grow back?

  • where do you get angora rabbits ? i want one so i can start making my own yarn . that and they are really cute

  • You are not supposed to handle rabbits by the scruff. There is very little skin there, and it hurts the animal. They are not like cats.

  • Thats a moose!!!!

  • my angora jumps too much to use scissors on

  • My angora jumps too much and can't stay still.

  • Why does that rabbit just sit there??? Patti in Texas

  • @pattioffutt because if it's like my rabbit, it likes the attention and loves to be brushed and touched. i also think, for my rabbit at least, she knows how much cooler she's going to be afterward.

  • cute and cool i want to try!

... but frst1 i need one of those bunny's... LOL! XD

  • lol i thaught when you said make a hat out of a rabbit i thaught you where going to kill him :-D

  • Luv your video's they r awsome. Thnx 4 sharing what u know. Smiles from Va. :)

  • :D the rabbit seemed happier/lively after being trimmed..adorable ! :D

  • Oh thank god, I thought they skinned these T.T

  • @AtlanticQuail Oh yeah thank God they don't skin them! That is so cruel and horrible! I just love how these little creatures can give us the warmest fabric in the world without any damage to them, plus they are adorable!

  • ok garden girl, this is what i have you on my friends list for! i never saw this til now- OMG i want angora rabbits -- i love to spin and knit/ crochet stuff too! i had no clue they were so easy to handle and had so much fur or hair or wool whatever you call it on them.

you have shown us how easy and do- able this is!

    <3<3<3

  • aww what a cute rabbit!! my sister is five and she thought that when u shear a animal u just pull on the fur and more keeps coming out, shes so cute when she tries to think!! X3 jk i love u sissy!! ;3

  • I used to think angoras were nothing but a high maintenence eye-sore, but after watching clips of them on youtube I'm begging to fall in love (In a non beastiality sorta way)...

I'm really considering buying one now!

  • If rabbits are like cats which I think they are. picking them up like doesn't hurt. It reminds them of MUM.

  • You're forgetting an important fact here. There's a huge difference between Rabbits and cats. Cats are natural predators whereas Rabbits are prey animals which means they are very easily frightened.

  • @zainabinho110 i think she knew what she was doing

  • How many ounces of wool can you get from one rabbit? great video thanks

  • It looks awful! OMG! What did you do to it?

  • I suppose she should get a stylist to do his wool. I am sure he wants to be the sexiest rabbit on the block.

  • where can i buy some

    ANGORA or HOLLAND LOP bunnies?

    please reply...=) THANKS!

  • wow!!!!

    that rabbits so cuuuuute!!!!!!

    where did you buy that?

  • Thats the biggest rabbit I've ever seen in my life. o.O

What about little animals living in his fur? Do you make the yarn and clothing, THEN clean it or do you just let it be? I know nothing about this so sorry if I sound like a complete noob lol.

  • Poor rabbit looks terrified.

  • Really you thought so.

  • Very cool! Would love to see baby 'n angora hat when you finish knitting it! That wool is looking pretty good now that temps are dropping! Keep the great videos coming!

  • This is very helpful. Scissors are the best to use with these wonderful bunnies. Thanks!

  • u should get a buzzer for after u trim your rabbit , i had to for one for my dogs

  • unbelievable, You're amazing!

  • Horrible haircut? It's not for the animal's looks you know! Garden Girl, can you mix the music a bit lower so we can hear you speak more clearly?

  • how long does it take you to shear him? And how much fur do you keep between him and the scissors so you dont cut him?

  • Awesome I am so looking forward to getting my hands dirty. thanks !!

  • after watching all her videos, i have realized that she has the life that i am trying to get. all she dose is garden, make stuff, and she has all the pets that i love.

  • this video made me very uncomfortable

  • OMG. What a horrible hair cut!

  • Yeah, he's going to be so embarrassed when he goes to school tomorrow.

  • where do you keep the rabbit during the winter? I never kept rabbits before

  • they can winter outside, even in sweden! ;)

  • I just got two English Angoras yesterday.

We are just so excited. We purchased a white buck and a black buck, both are about one year old. I have already spun some wool from them. Thanks for the tips Patti.

  • Do you have to wash the fiber before spinning it?

  • Very helpful. I have a giant angora and have been trying to pluck him. Is it better to shear a giant angora. Also have an English angora and she doesn't seem to mind

  • Giant angora don't molt. so they aren't ideal for plucking

  • You go girl! You're so amazing. It's been so fun watching your video clips. Thanks :-)

  • Rabbits have no scruff, so scruffing is never appropriate.

  • actually they do, but since rabbits are often picked up by preditors that way its not a very common way to pick a rabbit up anymore because it makes them scared but its still okay

  • OMG that rabbit looks like he was borrowed from a cartoon or something!

Adding myself to the Garden Girl channel today!

  • looks dam tasty

i wanna eat dat big fat jucy meat lol

  • What a beautiful and healthy looking animal you have there! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!

    Looking forward to more. =)

  • Can't you use an electronic clippers to cut the rabbit? I would think it would make his hair look more even after the cut instead of choppy hair.

  • Rabbit skin is very sensitive and thin so it is a lot safer to use hand shears.

  • The electric sheer would probably freak him out too.

  • Did you know your not supposed to hold angoras by the scruff of the neck. I got taught it at college in animal welfare and veternary health. You can hold all other rabbits by scruff of the neck just the angora you not supposed to.

  • that is one patient rabbit. Why not use electric clipper?

  • Wonderful video.

Is that a german angora bunny?

  • yeah you really shouldnt scruff the rabbits

  • that rabbit is huge

  • How fast does the wool grow back?? Do you have your rabbits processed?? Is this your means of income, or do you also have a 9-5??

    THX

  • If Paulo doesn't wear it, I will. I also think angora wool isn't itchy like sheep's wool. Don't you hate it when teeny pieces stick to your face and nose - need to have someone spotting you for that. I always feel like my head is covered after a shearing.

  • cool.

  • Very cute angora rabbit!!!

  • Very cool. Loved the handspinning on the spot too. Would love to see more on taking care of the rabbits.

  • that was so cool! And I bet the buck is cooler now too =)

I was amazed at how you were able to start 'hand' spinning the wool. Can't wait to see you start on the hat. Great idea!
