what i do, i search the romanji lyrics and the translation and compare them. thats how i learned some words and sentences. there are sites that put the original text and the translation next to each other. watching english subbed anime is also a way to learn. i think this is a easy way to learn japanese because the words are repeated often and you learn how to pronounce them

Subs are a terrible way to learn Japanese. Most subtitles are completely off the mark - I remember watching Ringu with subtitles and my friend, who is Japanese, kept complaining that the bad translation was taking away from the story.
