I was expecting the shuttle to accelerate away a lot faster after main engine separation, but I guess each k.p.h. increase takes more energy the faster you go (k.e.=mv²)
Somehow I thought it would get easier once you were in the vacuum of space, but those pesky stars keep on tuggin' ;-J

What you meant are the Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB). The Main Engines (or SSME) are the three jets in the shuttle's rear part :-)

Actually, I didn't mean the SRBs, which the shuttle does accelerate away from (2:58)
I should have said 'after main engine cutoff and external fuel tank separation' (9:46) :)
