  • LoL, This is a lovely version too, with the "999" !! Thanks for sharing !

  • anyone know what book this is based off of?

  • @kirkpatrick321 Yeah - it's from Hilaire Belloc's 1907 'Matilda (Who Told Such Dreadful Lies And Was Burned To Death)'

.....actually from the book : "For once, towards the Close of Day

    Matilda growing tired of play

And finding she was left alone

    Went tiptoe to the telephone

    And summoned the Immediate Aid

    Of London's Noble Fire Brigade......"

  • The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is some kind of experimental psychedelica album mixed with songs where Syd reminisce over the stories and poems he read as a child. Perhaps it's a concept album.

  • this version is good except i dont like the lack of backing vocals on the line "WAITINGGG"

  • the lyrics make me lol

  • @kindofmagicmike They are funny

  • this is cool, thanks for finding this :)

  • After listening to this version the only thing I'm thinking is that I have to buy the anniversary edition as soon as possible.

  • this version makes me pumped

  • Hillaire Belloc's inspiration is rampant in this alternate version Thanks for posting !

  • can you send me this and all the Piper 40th bonus material?

  • Mr. T says:

    BUY IT, FOOL!

  • I already bought the 2-disc (mono and stereo mixes) set, cos it was all they had, and it doesn't make sense to rebuy nearly the exact same thing for probably twice the price. So there.

  • Oh wait, that exact same thing goes for me. Wish they would release that third bonus disc as an indiviual product soem time, eh?

  • Go buy it.

  • "There was a boy, whose name was Jim.

His friends they were very good to him.

They gave him tea and cakes and jam,

    and slices of delicious ham."

We need more songs with happy lyrics like these.

  • Wondering and dreaming The words have different meanings Yes they did... Finding she was left alone Went tiptoe to the telephone, 999 Summoned the immediate aid Of London's Noble Fire Brigade For all the time spent in that room The doll's house darkness old perfume And fairy stories held me high On clouds of sunlight floating by Oh Mother tell me more Tell me more...
  • heres the lyrics: There was a boy whose name was Jim His friends, they were very good to him They gave him tea, and cakes and jam And slices of delicious ham Oh Mother tell me more Why'd'you have to leave me there Hanging in my infant air, waiting You only have to read the lines of Scribbly black and everything shines The chief defect of Henry King Was chewing little bits of string At last he swallowed some which tied Itself in ugly knots inside
  • it's great!!!!!! i never had listened this version *____*

  • i love this version. thanks for posting this!

  • Same here...good 'ole Rick & Syd...I wish they were still with us! :o(

  • Syd actually got this from a poem.

R.I.P Roger Barrett, You were a great, misunderstood artist even to most this day, for i know you never went crazy.

  • Thanks again, compadrichi, for putting this fantastic stuff up!

  • De lo poco que ofreció esta edición aniversario este tema es mi preferido.

  • hay cachado bueno aparte de lo increíble de esta version como suena el Hammond al comienzo? es màs rico en harmonía
