  • This video was so interesting! Great job! I am OBSESSED with photography so I was like a sponge soaking up all of this great info you shared - mainly on lighting and general setup for a self portrait shoot (I've art directed other shoots in the past, but never done a self portrait before - I'm all over ordering a remote control for my camera!). You definitely got a like, favorite and subscribe from me :) Oh and girl, the way you tied that scarf was perfection!

  • Great pics Ann! You look wonderful.

  • Hi Ms CandidAnn! I LOVE YOUR WORK! Wow! AWESOME! I'm very much intrested in getting into phtography and this helps me. Thank you for posting!

  • Absolutely fab. The scarf would be a great summer shirt. I appreciate the info on the camera equipment. I am terrible with my little canon. One day, I hope to have the skills and the equipment. You were right on point. BRAVO.

  • I can't tell you aren't a model!! Very nice pics! I have had a Nikon D60 for about 3 years and I guess I haven't spent enough time with it because I STILL don't know exactly how to set it for different lighting situations. I suppose I should go sign up for a class or two because I really enjoy photography. Thanks for this series.

  • @NaturallyCreole Girl, you could totally be a model. Are you kidding me! Thanks for the kind words though. <3

  • Very pretty pics. Seem like that took quite a bit of work thanks for sharing!

  • @mezier50 Yes, it is a lot of work. Notice how much went into it before I took my first shot. Preparation is everything.

  • I posted before I saw the result. Good lawd lady.....just gorgeous! You have some serious skills.

  • @Sassymarkrep Thank you. I really appreciate it.

  • Those were some really nice photos!!! U look like a model girl!!!

  • @TheBlessedme1 Awww, Thanks so much.

  • excellent!

  • Ann, the pics are amazing! You look beautiful! Thanks for this tutorial! I've got a lot to learn and a lot of equipment to buy! One of my goals this year is to learn how to use my camera. Do you ever go on any of the photography tours in NYC. I plan on checking some out in the spring. Thanks!

  • @LRennaeD Before buying a lot of equipment, make sure you practice a lot. You can do so much with a consumer camera but unfortunately, lots of people just don't take the time to read the manual or learn about how the camera actually works. At any rate, happy shooting!

  • @CandidAnn Oh, I intend to practice a lot and take a class this spring. I have a Canon Rebel Xs that I know very little about. I'm more hands on, so a class will be best than reading a manual from cover to cover. Thanks for responding!

  • Awesome video. Thanks for sharing, and honeeeyyyy, you worked the hell out of that scarf!

  • @Sassymarkrep LOL, thanks so much. You know how it is, you use what you have.

  • Thank you so much for this video, I'm a novice photographer and I'm trying to setup an at home studio. I can't wait to see information about everything you used in this video! By the way your pictures came out gorgeous!!! You make everything look so effortless!! Thank you for the inspiration!!

  • @MrsNJones757 I've updated the vid with pricing and additional info as annotations. Hope is helps.

  • Yes. I'm a behind the scenes person too! Thanks for the video. And do you have a video on how you folded that scarf?

  • @AnnNoire I'm much more comfortable behind the camera but I love self portraits because I get to control it so it's not so bad. No vid on the scarf, sorry. Just get creative and wrap it anyway that suites your body type.

  • I loved the results....great!!!

  • @iRepASavior Thank you very much.

  • thank you for this ann. I am obsessed for photography and making my video better. I even bought an expensive Canon camera and tripod. Thanks FOR THIS VIDEO:)

  • @JaedaBarbie Keep practicing, read the manual and go on Photography 101 forums so learn how the camera operates so that you can get creative with it. You'll do fine.

  • I have a question as a beginner what is a good camera I could get? Right now I have a Fiji fine film S2940 and am still learning how to use it.

  • @lillulu79 I've attempted to make a vid about that twice. It's a difficult question to answer so I have decided to write a blog post about it. I hope it will be up in the next few days.

  • Damnit Woman! This is why you are amazing! You are really wonderful at sharing knowledge and though it's more complicated you present it with ease. Love your content!

  • @KandieeCurls Awwww, Thanks so much. I get tons of free info from YT so I'm happy to share whatever I know and return the favor. Photography can be quite complicated when you get into lighting, but the basics are very easy. Thanks so much for supporting. I truly appreciate it! I feeeeel da love ;-)

  • Word. I have the same lights, backdrop, and backdrop stand. I am a huge fan of self photography. I have a series called, "10 seconds and a timer." Good Stuff sis.

  • @whoissugar Girl, people be trying to throw shade (no pun intened) at those AlienBees. Worst than the Natural Hair Nazis. Now, I'm going to have to search your archives for that series. Thanks for letting me know. Nuff Love!

  • You are talented. My son wants to study photography, music, etc. He is interested in a few things and I encourage him to pursue all of his interests.

  • @chilid856 Thanks so much. Sounds like he is lucky to have such a supportive parent.

  • WOW! I was momentarily obsessed with photography in college--almost double major with photojournalism as a second major, but I also took several art classes--and this really, really, really makes me miss it. Great setup and great results. Thanks for sharing.

  • @lashandar That's funny because in college although I majored in English, I found my love for photography! I LOOOOVE Photojournalism. Writing and Photography... HEAVEN!

  • @CandidAnn I really should've majored in English, but I was "convinced" to go with news-editorial journalism as my second major instead of photojournalism, but I think I want to get back into photography. I always said I'd make a dark room in a closet or bathroom whenever I bought a house, and here I have a mostly unused guest bathroom... :-) But I also want to get into digital photography, since it has more immediate gratification. I love your setup. I used to use sheets as backdrops.

  • @lashandar Honestly, it doesn't make a difference what you majored in. If you love it, do it!

As for making a dark room in your bathroom, be very careful with that. The developer will corrode any metal piping that you may have. Digital still can't take the place of B&W photography IMO, but it's damn close. Go digital, you won't regret it.

I was just talking to Aleke about making another vid showing how you can use simple thing as backdrops. Solid sheets are a perfect example!

  • @CandidAnn I agree. I'm all about that this year--doing what I want and love to do, while I can still commit 100%. I'm transitioning to working at home full time, writing, and adding photography would be great, and I think I will start with digital, considering the startup costs. Hope you decide to make that video. Thanks for sharing as much as you do.

  • ANN this was great! amazing. i soooo gotta start back taking pictures

  • @tyrondaking Thanks so much. I'm so busy at times I don't always have the time for it also. Thanks for watching and supporting. Nuff Love!

  • wow that looked like a lot of work! and i love the scarf - nice look!

  • @GigiShiree Yeah, notice how much went into the shoot before the first shot was taken. Thanks for the kind words.

  • Wow! You got talent Ann! Beautiful pics!

  • @Dimples759 Thank you.

  • WOW!!! You are so talented!

  • @iharris1020 Awww, Thanks!

  • Nice tutorial, Thank you!!!

  • @Naturalbeginning You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
