  • god i wish i could get one of those beautiful cars

  • Have a 2010 ACR with dual blue stripes, can't wait to drive it this summer

  • What track record? Superstock class....

  • I always wonder exactly how many of the people who say "ill race dat car in my (their car here) and own it any day", if they really even know how to drive. Honestly, I feel like ripping the spine out of every adolescent cyber punk out there. They know absolutely nothing, yet act like they're like a god or something.

  • i did 150 in that car on the highway on the way to my highschool the other day ya i own one of the 33 that were made

  • my 74 Nova went off into the dirt with it 2 right wheels right in the screw, and I almost pood myself alittle LOL

  • ill race him on that track in my PINTO lol

  • making the viper has been a huge acomplishment for chrysler over the past 18 years look how well theyv done with it.

  • DUDE THIS ENGINE IS FUCKIN AWESOME!!!

  • I NEED ONE OF THOSE.

  • lol, Ricardo Zonta has the lap record 1.21.xxx or something wtf?

  • i like american engineering because it doesn't make use of computers in their cars most of the time which make both acr and the zr1 great that is why i love both of them unlike the gtr which is a 911 turbo imitation which is an epic fail for japan

  • nice its the best ACR ive seen! the ACR X looks better

  • at 1:27 did that guy just pronounce it NEW-burgring?

  • yes he did, and he compared laguna seca to it lol

  • the viper acr makes my dick hard. giv thumbs up if your a dodge lover like me, because theres not alot of dodge supporters.

  • the viper ACR is a beast awesome car and it looks killer

  • is it true that the viper is being canceled?

  • @americanmuscle79 yes its true (sigh)

  • @lambofreak1000 No, it's not getting cancelled. Just going to be a new generation coming out. I know you posted this a while ago, so sorry if you already knew that. Ferrari is going to share technology with Dodge to make the car better(much like Lamborghini did to the first gen.).

  • I want to see them run the ACR at Tsukuba!!

  • i would be so scared to drive that..

  • Mini Nurburgring huh??? hahahaha

  • any car that can run Laguna Seca fast has got to be a good car.

damn i love that cockscrew =D

  • I will personally make sure the Pres. of Fiat suffers a horrible death if they stop production of the Viper. So far it's not looking good for Fiat.

  • That's a threat, I'm reporting this.

  • I wonder what would happen if a top-line Ariel Atom attacked the record.

  • I think the Ariel Atom wouldn't have a problem beating a Viper.

  • Don't be so sure. The Ariel Atom was only 0.2 secs faster than the Nissan GT-R on the Top Gear track.

On Laguna Seca, the SRT10 ACR was over 5 seconds faster than the Nissan GT-R. I think that for a fast track like Laguna Seca or Nurburgring, the pure speed of the ACR would be too much for the superior handling of the Atom to overcome.

  • Did they use the latest Atom III with 300 bhp and aero-package?

    There's also a 500 bhp V8 Atom coming up.

  • I think it was an earlier Atom with the same 300 bhp. I can't imagine that an aero-package would make that big of a difference though. Maybe a second or two improvement at most.

We'll see about the 500bhp v8 Atom. There are no reviews or laptimes for it yet

  • The Top Gear track is totally flat though. I reckon that on a track like Laguna Seca it would have a massive torque per tonne advantage. I also think the aero package would drasticly reduce lap-times (by more than 2 seconds) since Laguna Seca is so twisty.

Nobody here with a Charged Atom III (works) that can have a go at the Laguna Seca lap-record? :)

  • @mkygod what about the v8 atom that is coming son 500 bhp more bhp per tonne than a veyron

  • @mkygod The Nordschleife (Nurburgring's bigger version) is more suited for fast AND nimble cars, there are many fast sections, but mainly there are 2nd and 3rd gear turns on it. So probably the Ariel Atom would be a better bet. Look up for the record of the Nurburgring by a Radical SR8 (6:11.xx), a similar car to the Ariel Atom and you'll probably agree with me.

  • @rafa281 some good points, but depends on which Ariel you are talking about. I don't think the regular Atoms 300hp and below would do it. But the 500hp version probably would. The problem is the regular Atoms don't have nearly as much power or downforce/aerodynamics as the Radical SR8.

  • @mkygod I've seen the Ariel (can't remember which version) reviewed on Top Gear and it was one of the fastest cars they had reviewed ever. It was much faster on their track than a Hayabusa motorbike or something. But you're right about the Ariel not being aerodynamic enough to beat this Viper, but with a few adaptations I bet it could.

  • Uh....no

  • It's small and nimble, but it's slow in comparison. People have to remember that the Ariel Atom is a production car and qualifies to compete for this record. They don't, because they know they can't. It's a great car but a buggy with a motorcycle engine cannot beat a high end supercar around one of the toughest tracks in the world.

  • Motorcycle engine?

Ariel Atom 3 is powered by a supercharged Honda TypeR engine which gives it 300 bhp (or 600 bhp per tonne). That Atom beats cars like the Nissan GT-R, Koenigsegg CCX and Corvette Z06 around the Nurburgring. It does 60 mph in under 3 secs and 100 mph in under 11 secs. If that's not fast enough then it'll make up for it in the corners. Don't know specs for the V8 one.

The reason Ariel hasn't gone for a lap record yet is probably because Laguna Seca is not a benchmark for them.

  • I was being somewhat biased. But Laguna Seca is a very hard track, so is the Nurb, there's no better benchmark. I doubt they're just waiting for a harder track to compete on... Besides, they've already raced on several tracks trying to beat records but always failed to do so. They pride themselves on being faster than other high end cars, but never break any records. To claim this is because they don't want to yet seems wrong.

  • And even if they DID break record, as they have tried to but failed, it STILL wouldn't say too much because it's such a small car and impractical in nearly every way. To have this car go around a track faster than any other production car wouldn't be that hard, but it'd have to cost more. They still didn't pull this off, even after attempting to. So you can't really say they haven't tried yet, and since they HAVE tried, you can't really say they'd succeed.

  • ya it beats those car....oh wait it doesn't because they haven't poster a time around the nurburgring yet

  • I am sorry that the Google search engine technology is too hard for you to master. :\

  • ok show me where you found the atom lap time around the whole variant of the ring

  • V8 version is motorcycle derived. Basically two Suzuki hayabusa inline fours (or other bike make? radical's is zuki based) custom cast into a V8. Several cars have the engine (cateham, Radical SR8 has similar mill also). Atom 500 is rather low production. 25. Same as a Koenigsegg.. and it costs $60k more than this viper. The engine on its own is probably $20-30K. Its a screamer of an engine, but it isn't cheap.

Dont forget also that this car was driven by and engineer, not a pro ringer..

  • fok - That is also classified as a production vehicle, it's not fast enough in a straight line, nice around the corners though. But if it had what it took to come cloes to the record they'd have done it.

  • I think its either too rare or too new because i havent seen any laptimes for any track for the the V8 Atom

It's going to be hard to ever find out since most Atoms are made and sold in Europe.

  • Some great tracks are in Europe. Someone will take it out eventually. But it just doesn't have a strong enough top end to compete in the straights.
