Android OS on an EPC Mini Laptop Notebook

How do you upgrade the HD or SSD in this device? Can you give me a link? And how much would it cost also?

Greetings. sepwich is down but I found the android-ARM-8505-Smartbook zip elsewhere. I extracted the contents to an SD card, put that in my EPC with a WM8650 processor. The mini laptop doesn't not boot from the SD, it comes up in Windows CD same as it did before.

Do you have any information about running linux on an EPC with an 8650 processor? The little laptop says its processor is a "WMT, ARM-WM8650". Thanks in advance for any light you can shine on this.

@awesley1 the files only work with a 8505 processor (300mhz). the 8650 (800mhz), in fact, is too updated to work with it..the files only work with the older models.

vt8500 cannot take the Android for it is not wm8505, hence why one cannot flash Android to certain 7 inchers

Okay, I tried installing this and it told me to take the card out so I did and it restarted and there was a black screen. Now I try to install it, it just gets stuck on upgrading file system pleas wait... How long should I really wait for this? And mine is wms8505, should it still work or no? I really want android on this. :/

I have had limited success with this. The volume icon takes up most of the screen, and won't go away, and the computer will not boot unless it is plugged into power, even with a full battery, and it will automatically shut down when it is unplugged.

I put the "script" folder to my sd card

then it boot starting flashing the nand

then it stuck to "please wait"

i waited too long and nothing happens

i shut it off and now

it wont boot not at all!

just black screen!

the reason is because the nand has been erased

can i do something to reflash it?

android works perfectly on my vt8505. I think alot of people are trying to put android on vt8500 models. it wont work! get a smartbook with vt8505.

I was dissapointed when I tried this on my smartbook OS CE 6.0 it just black out.. no single android appears after I reboot my netbook. Im so sad that until now I cant use my smartbook. How can I installed the previous OS?

@batangpanchon I think the same directory you got the Android OS from has a link in it for downloading the original Windows CE OS. the only problem is, that the process to re-install WIndows CE is exactly the same as the process to install Android. Are you sure you are going through all of the steps? I would just start from scratch and try it again.

i like it but it keeps on freezing up on me... i have to hold power to kill then turn bak on. I've tried advanced task killer to keep the memory free but that didnt fix it. can anyone help? by the way the "demo purpose only" is still there.

I successfully installed the android firmware into my 7" netbook. However, when the system is up, I saw RED "Demo Purpose Only" at the top left of the status bar. Do you have such wordings on your status bar and do you know how to remove it? Thanks.

@syafiq809 I think then you just remove the SD card and reboot. It should go away.

Im trying this on my old dell inspiron 5150...would this work for it? I don't have a sd slot but I can put it on a usb storage and connect it. Can you help walk me through how you loaded it?

@iskimz its kind of difficult for me to help you- see this EPC device isn't really a laptop to begin with, so its not really for older Laptops. If you're looking for installing a new OS- just google either Linux Puppy, or Mepis Antix. I've had GREAT success with Antix on older PC's- really kick ass OS!!

Two major problems that make this 7" notebook a waste of money purchase.

1. Battery run out fast,you are lucky to get one hour of run time.

2. Doesnt support FLASH which make it useless for Movie,Youtube etc..

No one seems to know whether people in VIA is seriously getting it done.

Now you know why it is at EBAY!? Even with Android OS installed!
