  • When the hell will I get a tone like that?....uh, never!....This rocks on many levels.

  • Who was the performer in the beginning?

What was the group, and the song! I know its the house and and gatemouth who are the three guys?

  • tell me stevie ray didnt take this and turn mary had a little lamb out of it.....man this guy influenced so many talented guitar slingers !

  • The guitar player behind Freddie is making me want to go buy a Fender Jazzmaster with my Les Paul stash lol! Who is that?

  • @willwelsh816 That's Gatemouth Brown!

  • @soontobe1968 HOLY CRAP THAT'S GATEMOUTH!? he looks so young in this lmao, amazing guitar player. I always remember him with that Firebird with the funny looking pickguard!

  • It's clear from where did SRV inspired .

  • Freddy King got me hooked on da Go Go Dancers ...

  • Billy Cox on the bass? This is all star band!

  • freddie was the man some his tracks were powerful

  • Amen!!!!

  • I drank a beer with him around 1975. I told him, Freddy, can I buy ya a beer because, I have never drank a beer with the King before. He said, "Why sure, man!". This entire video shows how this music is supposed to be played. You wanna learn to play the blues.... you learn it from studying the masters. This film shows mastery! Less is more! Tone, phrasing, simple parts combined to create one piece of mastery.

  • just type buddy guy mary had alittle lamb and play the virst vid, eerie how they sound the same

  • sounds like mary had alittle lamb by buddy guy i wonder who came up with the opening riff first

  • Billy Cox on bass, friggin' awesome.

  • Wow, to me I can hear an influence on Matt 'Guitar' Murphy. Very similar. Thanks for posting.

  • OH YEAH COP THE ...HIGH TOP... POMADOUR...HAIR STYLE LATE 1950s STYLE GROOVEY MAN ...

  • Awesomeness

  • The Beat was a dance show in Dallas. The dancers were drill team girls from local high schools. Freddie King made his home in Dallas and played lot's of local gigs when not on tour. He had a huge hit with "I'm Going Down", in '71 or '72. He gained world-wide recognition from this shortly before he passed away. Check out John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers tribute CD, "Palace of the King".

  • What's happened to America?

Going from this soulful and musically educated display of talent to Rap and Hip-Hop?

  • This is priceless! Love the fact that he kept the original tunning machines.Everyone I knew who had a Gibson switched to Grover machine heads

  • I saw him in San Diego opening for Traffic in 1973. Just an incredibly soulful guitarist.

  • the real god

  • man that fender jaguar in the back sounds so chimey and freddies 335 sounds dirty this is so good

  • How many kids, nowadays, know how to just lay down some fat, simple bass like that?

Go Freddy! Forever - the most badass of all the Kings, in my opinion.

  • Man I never thought that it was humanly possible to be so damn funky!!!

  • THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!!!

  • GENIUS!!!

  • Just imagine this world now if Freddie King, Elvis, Bo Didley, James Brown, Luther Allison .....were still alive.....I miss them all so much.

  • OMG the break at 2:24 should be mandatory for every guitar player to watch and learn

  • Everything Freddie did is mandatory!

  • Amen!

  • sounds like mary had a little lamb buddy guy version

  • Yeah, but I think the Buddy Guy version is older, isn't it?! Late '50-ies perhaps?

  • What a find this was thanks for sharing 5*

  • I love it when backround dancers seem to not notice they're wearing a skirt.

  • My daughter gave me this video tape for fathers day about 15 years ago.(cool daughter). I found it yesterday and pop it in a VCR....WORN OUT! ..Its probably one of the best performances of an artist at his absolute peak of his artistry. For you young cats this is a incredible study on how its done....Billy Cox on Bass is Text book. That funky drummer is a study on the "One"....Not many people can play this anymore..."It's not how many notes you play...It's how you play the notes" Take heed..

  • Yeah, Billy Cox! BEST guy ever! :-)

  • @eloseddie Very well said!

  • Holy crap Billy Cox on bass! Well spotted. @eloseddie

  • @eloseddie I've seen quite a few clips off this Show now and it is phenomenal! Not just the fantastic Freddy King but other greats as well. I'd love to track it down. It was recorded in Texas and just called The Beat???

  • @elvispreseli you can get this through Elderly Instruments web site. It was a local Dallas TV dance show when I was kid. varaha

    Escondido

  • this was a man who played not for the money or fame but because he truely belong on stage his soul n heart were in it and when he plays i can feel it as well as i hope you all do to

  • You're darn right richluvsellie, this was one the greatest Bluesmen ever who inspired many who came after him and it's great that there are these performances around so we can enjoy, what an incredible feel, Vic.

  • So ridiculously cool. Where has all the good music gone? Nothing like this anymore.

  • is this guy still alive:S

  • He died in 1976 and he was the Man!!! Monster!!

  • sounds like Mary had a little lamb

  • it is haha instrumental

  • Freddie was the MAN. His music will live forever.

  • I[m in heaven. Who needs television ever again

  • Freddy Always Was and Always will be... The King! An amazing Blues Player and a SERIOUS Influence for my playing.

  • Yeah... I love those chicks back there. They´re not hot, they can´t dance... But they sure know how to shake it!!!

  • they ALL stole it off someone ...and put their own slant on it...but i love it all whatever..!

  • Billy Cox that played with Jimi Hendrix is on bass.

  • Damm, now i know where Stevie Ray got inspired for the riff for Mary Had a Little Lamb.

  • Buddy Guy did that song.

  • Earl Hooker did a version too. It's all good.

  • haha that black gogo dancer is "sumptin' else"

this sounds like buddy guy's "mary had a little lamb" to me.

  • Holy fuck thank you! ... GOD BLESS THE BLUES!!

  • The screeching sound throughout the last 30 seconds reminds me of Yoko Ono's singing. lol.

  • Could be, but it was all Yoko copying American blues. Not the other way around.

  • well obviously Freddie King was playin this before Yoko came about. I think the Ronnie Character was just makin fun of Yoko.

  • Kindof a Mary had a little lamb thing. Pretty sweet

  • or let the good times roll

  • What I find interesting about this player is that his style so matches him, physically. He's a 300 lb BIG MAN. His playing is muscular and powerful. Fun!

  • thanks for posting this
