This test was done to test the facility, not the car.
The car had concrete in the footwells and boot and the test was designed to test the crash facility in a WORST case scenario. 80s Commodores aren't safe, but they're not this bad. Trust me; Personal Experience...
As many people have said before, this was not a normal crash test it was a test of a new crash facility, the can was loaded full of sand ballast and was crashed at over 100km/h not the standard 55km/h. I contacted crashlab in Australia and found this out.
@hchia17 nope, it was made in australia. BUT it was trevelling at 100 km/h rather than 64km/h, and it crashed into cement, rather than honeycomb or whatever cars are usually crashed into with these tests.
@xfinder0 nope, it was made in australia. BUT it was trevelling at 100 km/h rather than 64km/h, and it crashed into cement, rather than honeycomb or whatever cars are usually crashed into with these tests.
@xfinder0 The car isn't Chinese at all. As a matter of fact, "CrashLab" is Australian. If you have a look at around 0:10 - 0:12, try to find the little logo in the front right side of the car that have the letters R, T and A with and right below it, it has a road in the logo having the colors blue, green, black and white. And RTA stands for Roads and Traffic Authority, in New South Wales, Australia.
@toy2day It is, a VB-VC specifically, but this one was loaded to the eyeballs with ballast, and had the engine and transmission removed. This crash was actually to test the facility itself, not the car
Read the description... and watch the video. Ever seen a car do that before at 100k's? It'd have to run into something or be going a lot faster to flatten like that.
so if i had 300kg of subwoofers and MDF wood in the trunk and bought this car i'd be looking at this happening at 100 kph? Either way that's way below unacceptable.
@PlytkoZerca That's the starting point of the Commodore, but structurally, they're a lot stronger than a Rekord. This test is a fake; no engine or gearbox, and half a tonne of ballast in it, slammed into a solid concrete wall at over 100km/h
@ziggyzedly VB/VC/VH Commodores all had the same shell. The VK brought in structural changes. It is a VB/VC, as the apertures for the front indicators are wrong for a VH
@Rcrby525 It DIDN'T HAVE AN ENGINE! It alsohad half a tonne of ballast, and was run into the wall at about 100km/h, which is why it looked so bad. The real crash tests were never this bad
@WedidLandONtheMOON It's NOT @#&*ing Chinese, and this is a fake! On a normal crash test, even really crap cars tend to raise their rear ends at the point of impact. This test was to test the facility. Run into the wall at 100+km/h (60 mph) with half a tonne of ballast in the back. This is a VB/VC Holden Commodore, Australian designed and built, and deliberately sabotaged. No engine or gearbox either
The retard who posted this video should have added the full description. This test simulates a frontal impact at 160km/h of an opel rekord E hiting a concrete wall.
I agree with ashbmwm3, most vehicles would probably end up like that if the test was conducted with the vehicle going in excess of 100 miles per hour. 4 stars (-1 for failing to say what speed the vehicle was going.)
one thing it dosn't say is what speed it was going. IF it was over 100mph (not saying it is) most cars would end up like this if aimed at a solid wall.
No some of you people dont have a brain eh?even if this test was done at 120kmph its nearly the same impact you would get from having a head on crash at 60kmph.This is not same at all and no NOT every car will do this in a head on crash at 60kmph.This is a shocking test and they should show this video to young snappers that are just getting there licence
No it is not. We are talking about stopping distance and G forces. The stopping distance and deceleration will be the same in either case. Its about forces.
It's a VB Commodore by Holden, based on an Opel design, I've read elsewhere this crash was conducted at 160kmh, I don't think much is going to be left no matter what car you're driving. :)
If you were kidnapped and placed in the boot of the car, you'd walk away happily! Which is really the only reason the driver would go at 160 km/h due to the chasing police.
2nd: youre talkin shit without knowing anything about the crashtest conditions... the car was a Holden Commodore (Australian Opel) from the late seventys, and it was running way over 100km/h into a concrete wall.. any other car would act the same in this teat... OPEL 4 LIFE!!!

Yeah but a I'm sure a concrete wall wouldn't be closing the gap on the other side at 60kp/h.
I don't think any car would be as solid as that, but, the damage might be a bit less.
UltimoImperio 2 years ago
Yeah thats true but the impact of two cars head on at 60kmh is close to a crash into a wall at 100kmh.
fpvshitsonhsv 2 years ago

douwethaman 2 years ago
Based on kinetic energy dissipation calculation:
because KE=1/2 mv2. At 60kph: 1/2 Mx60x60 - v2 is 3600. In a head on collision this will be doubled.
7200 is the v2 so v is close to 85kph actually.
