p.s. Didn't you mean fourteen HUNDRED years? Last time I checked we only had about 6 thousand years of written history, starting with the Sumerians in what is present day Iraq.
They were building small, round houses with subterranean stone foundations.
We know this was going on not because they wrote down "We are building small, round houses with subterranean stone foundations," but because they were building small, round houses with subterranean stone foundations

I get the sarcasm, but 14,000yrs isn't just wrong it's absurd. A language typically lasts only 3-4000 years before it is completely unrecognizable. How could any culture survive in any recognizable form for 14,000yrs? We know there was a different culture in Iraq only 6000yrs ago, the Sumerians, who were over run by other cultures later on. We don't know who was there before them.
And I wasn't talking about the river, I was talking about the sexy warriors it was named after.
"How could any culture survive in any recognizable form for 14,000yrs?"
Once it started getting poked by the pointy little CIA finger it would have a hard time lasting just 14.
Still, there will always be sheiks, even though a different set of phonemes may be used to express the concept. In America we call them "CEO," "President" or "Godfather." Same thing though.
"Thanx, but I wasn't being that serious."
Being overly serious is just a more subtle form of not being that serious. Seriously.
Don't know if I commented on this. Good presentation. I HATE the world tribalism and Nationalism, save for certain circumstances. A more cosmopolitan Iraq is the key--but that will take a decade. They have a few motorheads hitting the streets and that is good because it causes young Iraqis to say "to hell" with tribalism, I wanna car that rocks and gets the babes; that requires letting the babes be babes. Religion prevents the men and babes from letting it all hang out. Five, dude!
ew years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand;sorry i didnt want that happening to me
Sounds to me like the Iraqi Government is preparing itself for self rule once Obama becomes president of the US of Ass... with a steady withdrawal of troops from Iraq to follow.
Looks like the Iraqi Government doesnt want your plan anymore. Good on them because it could turn back on them at any moment.. like when America choose to stop bribing them..
BAGHDAD (AP) — The Shiite-led government is cracking down on U.S.-backed Sunni Arab fighters in one of Iraq's most turbulent regions, arresting some leaders, disarming dozens of men and banning them from manning checkpoints except alongside official security forces.
Since the rise of the allied Sunni movement, America has spent some $200 million on salaries, equipment and training for the fighters, which now number nearly 100,000. The U.S. goal is for many of them to be integrated into the Iraqi army or police, providing the fighters with long-term incomes.
You seem to forget a crucial detail: A lot of former innocent Iraqis were turned insurgent by OUR actions. By Paul Bremer disbanding the Iraqi Military, by most of the qualified medical professionals leaving the country or being killed, by lack of job opportunities. We have to take partial responsibility and not blame it all on the Iraqis, or "terrorists" as you like to call them.
I probably did, been watching these sort of videos practically all day and am probably becoming mindless. Also, occupation and wars of aggression are also illegal. We entered a country that did not provoke us, and we invaded them on false pretenses (aka LIES). If youve ever heard of the Downing Street Memo, it makes it perfectly clear their was no actual proof. I supported the invasion all the way to the fall of Saddam. Everything after that has been crap, and probably illegal.
no doubt. but the iraqi government in trying hard and being criticial of bush as well. at this point creating chaos against there own government is terrorism. two wrongs dont make a right. you cant ignore most of the sectratian violence is aimed at the american troops...but at each other sunni/shiite...secualr/theocrats etc...
yeah, I was surprised when al-Malaki wanted a timetable for withdrawal, which makes me think that our administration actually gave them a sort of true democracy... though they did want Chalabi to be in al-Malaki's position, but that didnt work out. So I guess its not all bad, and the violence has decreased quite a bit, but at what cost? Their infrastructure is practically destroyed, all those years of history were looted, we have a huge debt yet again to China (only?) over this, among others.
A sudden pull out would be a bad move , They should make use of this baby democracy they've created and have a referendum and let the Iraqis decide if the U.S stays or goes, I think the debate of wither or not Iraqis want Americans forces in their country can never be resolved untill this is done.
If the Iraqis hypothetically by majority choose for a American pull out in the refferendum,As a result things turn to shit you can deflect blame from yourself.
My opinion western troops need to get out and be replaced by a Pan Arab peace keeping force.
That is what IIIIIIIIIII spent years of my life fighting for.. the Sunnis and it was only until these American wankers were at their last straws that listened to the advice that IIIIII had given for years and they instatly got results.
Im an avid chess player. The tactics in what you describe is about getting rid of people who chop people's heads off and it would take time to see effects. Unlike tactics.. the strategy involved would decrease deaths instantly because you would be making peace with your enemies. You see.. that is the difference.. you were wong.
Im saying that not all of the people who were in power were evil. Im saying that instant democracy is not always the best solution for Iraq where 200,000 dead Iraqis is proof of.
who said all of them were evil? i never claimed instant democracy was the answer...i just want conflict to subside so we can bring our boys and girls home
saddam was evil, i never called all sunnis evil. and saddam only embrace religion late, he was always a secular leader. i never said all sunni's were racist. but...saddam certainly hasa thing for mass graves for kurds.
You invaded Iraq and called the Sunnis evil under your racist regieme which caused a big and instant power shift that people couild not handle. Now you are restoring power back to the Sunnis. It isnt that you have become sucessful in your Iraq strategy.. its because you are LESS retarded.
well, ahem, i didn't personally invade. as for racist regime, certainly that is an odd assessment and an emotive response. noone called the sunni's evil, certainly wahabbism is. you apprently have no idea what you are talking about. the sunni's aren't in power...its a shared power. odd you missed the facts. (btw sunnis and shiites there are all arabic, how is sunni bashing racist?)
Just so your feelings don't get hurt, I'm here informing you not to expect a response to your next attempt to have the last word. You're a funny little man. Nice to have met you. Ha!
It seemed that your video was trying to prove that the Surge was working, and that Americans are too dumb to understand.Somewhere, over the Rainbow, the American Warmongers were going to "Strateegorize" their way to victory. Do us all a favor and don't try to straddle the fence. It's like you didn't like the Invasion, but you said, F*ck it we are their now, so let's make the best of it,and try to convince the American people that Iraqis just can't govern themselves and need American occupation.
your entire statement is ridiculous. americans are a lot of things...but dumb? youre on the internet right now because of an american. we invented it. but keep being a xenophobic ass...
well, either way the iraqi and u.s governments have made a deal that calls for most u.s forces to leave iraq by 2010 and the rest later. so either way this war is in the endgame and we are getting out.
Not funny, not educational, not entertaining. However, you are just as talented as Tony Snow. Keep reaching for the stars. F*ck warmongers who want to just " do their job". Why don't you do a Simple Simon, 9/11 for Idiots, that prove that the Twin Towers were blown up, demolition style, with the help of American operatives. YOu expect people 2 look the other way when it comes to the Bin Laden theory, but to be wiz kids when it comes to the Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL). Get a clue " Brutha".
you apparently missed the netire point of the video. i was against the invasion. you are the one who needs to get a clue, this was not a prowar vlog, you apperently missed the entire point of it.
Hm, I actually read Robtrans comments for the first time and he's pretty uneducated about Iraq.. we pay them sooo much money so they don't blow us up and it works.
Robert once carried 1.8 million dollars beyond the wire. Lol he took a picture and had a big smile on his face. Dork.
actually you are insult to your own intelligence. i never claimed to supprt the invasion, in fact, i was against it. you simply don't know my point of view. but keep thinking you are in the know, you'd be surpised where i've been. sunni's and shiites have been killing each otheer for 1500 years...guess we provoked that too.
and by the way moron...i didnt disregard any of those things and the vlog was about trying to find peace in al anbar and deal with clan mentality. but you missed that because you are so tied up in self righteous diatrabs you missed the entire point of the vlog (and apparently missed all the criticism that agrees with you at the end)
Thank you to whoever put that presentation together. That was a nice breakdown of the Iraqi politics. Unfortunately, it comes way too late to have much effect. I wouldn't worry about Obama, he is just trying to win an election. Once he wins, he will just carry on the plan that the REAL men in power tell him to do - which will be "stay the course" of course.
by the way, the sease fire was caused because al sadr was getting his ass handed to him. otherwise he'd still be fighting. he is spending his time and moeny setting up his power base through intitutions...as my vlog points out.
You are absolutely right. As long as you reject these youtubers with their talking points, I am on your side. Keep informing and debating the ignorant. Many people on the internet are shallow and buy into propaganda like it's candy. You have the truth on your side brother.
I'll match him, plus you'll get a free visit to Austin, and I'm only 5 minutes from Lake Travis (and Hippie Hollow - the legal naked spot on the lake). I'd be happy, and you'd get a very inexpensive vacation (I'll pay the air fair) and I've got a big house where you can stay. You'd go back with a kick ass tan!
me neither, because I'm a VERY white boy! We can kick up the a/c and cool off au natural with a cold brewski, and I'll even rub all your sore muscles from the extreme workout!! Then we could go check out some live music. Austin is the "live music capitol of the world". Hey...I'm gonna PM Michele Obama's thesis she wrote in college and requested that it wouldn't be released until after the election. Boy, THAT will get you riled! Later, my mancrush!
The terrifying thing about all wars is that we will never fully understand them. This is so because we can never fully understand the depths of human nature. We say "let's learn from history" but we never do because the animal inside of us is dark. We have an animal inside who is light as well. But human nature IS the first start to understanding wars.
I agree with you about putting our trust in those "on the front line" like Patreas. Good video, Tim- really good. Well said.
I see the rhetoric and idealism behind Obama and his campaign, but I think he'll do well. He's a bit green, but he's smart enough to know that he does not know everything. I am putting my faith in his intelligence.
I will say one more thing about this particular issue and that is that I think Obama's plan to move the troops that we already have to Afghanistan is a good one that makes sense. I am sure he had advisement on that and I think some of it came from men in fatigues.
"never enter a land war in asia" linz, there is no way to win in afghanistan. the english and russians with all of their might and no media couldnt do it..neither can we. afghanistan is about two things, running pipelines from the oil in the "stans" to the water. its this policy that scares me about obama the most, he ignores history and has no understanding of the war there. its been called no mans land for 4000 years for a reason.Yes men in fatigues, certainly not those who understand it
its certainly why we NEVER put troops in there in the 80's. its a trap. pakistan understands that. china and russia do too. its simply not winnable, i'll send you some links. obama surrounds himself with folks who agree with him, much like bush does. its insular. brzezinski has always wanted a war in the balkans. its suicide.
the terrain alone is part of the problem. its not the men if fatigues that understand it. its afghans that do. the reason things are working in iraq is because we are using husseins tactics...not our own. anyone general that thinks we can win in afghanistan is doomed to be wrong. the russians employed 400,000 troops and could not deal with the pushtan resistance.
obamas insistence in attacking pakistan as well could literally be the hrnets nest western chinese and yemenese need to begin militarization of the entire balkan region. a world war in this region would make WW2 look like a carnival. obama is frighteningly naieve to believe russia and china won't eneter the fray and literally crush us, in a way we've never seen. afghanistan is the major reason obama scares me.
its is not our geopolitical sphere of influence, and india will sit idly by as the chinese and russians do everything in their power to watch us fail, and fail we will. afghanistan was a mistake. the taliban was not al quaeda. its was dumbheaded on bush's aprt and escalating as obama wants is worse. i dont agree much with clinton, but he was right on this. guided missles will slow them down, but history shows, we can NEVER defeat the mentality.
Thanks for giving the presentation, it was informative about current strategy in a way I hadn't seen before.
Having a "winning" strategy after five years is better than not having one. However, America's policy of foreign intervention is very dangerous and expensive. Spreading democracy by invasion is not a valid macro strategy (no matter what micro strategy you use). It is time for a 180 degree change back to the founding father's philosophy of non-intervention and leading my example.
The tech has certainly changed, but people haven't for about 6,000 years (and probably farther... if we had better records). The more history I read, the more I firmly believe that the founders (who knew history far better that our current generation) had it right. Reading Plato's dialogues shows their society was every bit as nuanced as ours, and the politicians were just as clueless and corrupt.
the competition of resources has changed, the communication has changed, our understand of how we work and the world works has changed...its different. the bases is good, i don't disagree, but its a new world.
again, by the very definition of imperialism you are wrong. you've been reading too much chomsky. you use emotive terms that are not applicable. you made the claim, prove your point of view. this is not empire building...colonization is not imperialism. but keep using emotive terms to make your points.
"Imperialism: A national foreign policy of extending areas of political or economic control, often by force." Grosset-Webster
"1. the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, OR of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies." Random House Unabridged
There's more as well.
There is a context to language, as well as words. Best to understand the context that is being presented, than to presume the context one is aware of. Perceive, don't project.
certainly the same can be said of you...imperialismm by your definition would not allow authority of a local government nor a short term exit strategy.
A local government instituted by the US (and a system that will work better with our economy), in a country that just happens to have crap loads of oil? Sounds like political and economic control to me. You are thinking of Imperialism as us having to put our flag down and say it is ours, not necessary. We are changing the political climate to make it work with us (as opposed to against us).
We implemented a western governmental system, securing trade as well as permanent bases.
I'm giving up here, no real point as it's just my perception and not necessarily the truth.
If you care to increase your understanding and information please read Beyond Culture by Edward T. Hall. It isn't about the war, but it is useful information for anyone. I can't say that it would change your opinion, but I can say that you would benefit from the info (as would anyone really). Have a good one.
trade is not imperialism....lol. imperialism is taking it. i just don't like temrs that compare modern geopolitics to genghis khan, its simply not the same lump of action.
LMAO, yeah if a surgeon gave you a lobotomy then you would be choosing to sit and drool most of the day - not like the surgeon is around anymore to make you do it.
Once again, you are just trying to redirect the discussion and taking my comment out of context. What I did was a metaphor for the discussion at hand, not starting a conversation about free will.
as i said, a conversation for another day...but when one posits an in context position that is unprovable within context...its makes the entire premise...unprovable, no?
chritianist is not provable. i am glad you have found solace in faith, i find for some folks it makes them better people. if science were nonsense, you wouldnt be writing this comment on the internet, our understading of science, not god, has given you that freedom.
hey, you are the one who is suggesting that quantity signifies accuracy - I just pointed out the other things you must believe in order to be consistent with your previous argument.
No, you aren't suggesting any quantity of empirical data, unless the data is the amount of people we have as troops. Not relevant to the discussion at hand.
depends where you mean...this oonversation isnt just between you and i...so certainly i have. regardless, the entire point is using wmotive terms such as imperialism simply posits intentional emotions into the argument. the vlog was about tactics, your comment to being this had nothing really to do with the vlog. the vlog was about finding peace now that we are there...you began talking about motives beyond that, no I.
Really? Just like that, huh? Nevermind that we're invaders and we have committed a war of aggression. That fact seems to conveniently slip out of your mind. No, they're "bad". Gimme a break.
first of all, i was reading from text. second of all, you think islamist violent theocrats are good? you moron, those insurgents aren't "iraqi" in al anbar, they were foreign insurgents...guilty of exaclty what you just blamed us for. simply fucks, these people.
You think they we were the aggressors in this? Did you miss all of 2001? Where we were attacked, then attempted 4 months of political bullshit to calm the situation, where at every turn the Iraqi government blocked our attempts, the terrorist groups attacked other countries?
Where were you and your anti-war bull then? Where were your suggestions and peace making super powers at that point sir? Though I think our spell check power would have been useless to us then.
idiots like mistaspot are loicial nulls. first he says "inurgents are bad when we invaded blah blah blah" while ignoring the insurgents in al anbar aren't iraqi. then, like the fool he is, he prpbably has never been to arabia, but is an expert. he spout athism on his page then supprts theocrats. a pool of hypocrisy, kind of fun, folks like him. he is an atheist but ignore the law of the jungle. kind of funny.
almost as lame as your silly belief systems while you claim to be an athist. ethics are simply a belief system. in order to have ethics one must claim authority, and whether it be man or god, its still faith and nothing logical about it.
i know you think insurgents are freedom fighters. freedom isnt free and those arent freedom fighters and they arent iraqi. if you didnt beleive in ethics, what is your point of all this?
you original statement was an ad hom, and your facts were wrong. until you are not guilty of being an illogical mess, keep your "ad homming" of "ad hoims" to yourself. facts. do you have any?
And you weren't when you brought them up? Excuse me but the battle is outlined by the first who makes a comment, you called us invaders...I called you an evolutionary mistake.
So, call them coalition forces. Not all of them are not Iraqi. I'm sure many of them are. Considering we completely disbanded the Iraqi police force upon arriving (SMART MOVE!), making thousands of people angry at us and putting thousands of people out of work, Im sure they found a nice little home with the insurgents. If you'll read my comment you will see that I never purported to know anything about Iraq. Unlike you, which I think is rather funny. I just said we committed a war of aggression.
in al anbar none of them are iraqi. you dont even know what you are talking about. really. and i do know a thing or two about iraq...lol. you civ lackeys and your know how. if you dont know anything about, why ya runnig your illogical silly little mouth.
and mistapsot, you moron, if you watched my vlog you'd see harsh criticism of how we invaded and the mismanagement of the war up until a year ago. but keep talking ,you are making a fool of yourself
before you run your ideological mouth (odd for a supposed athiest maybe read a bit. you cnodem belief sysmtes on your page but then espouse them here. god isn't hte only illogical belief system, so i s relativism.
Answer: The Iraqi government was linked in supplying weapons to the terrorists who attacked us. Then denied it, and refused to cooperate politically, did not respond to military threat. The 'committed' the first act of aggression. Check your facts.
What did Iraq do?
Answer: Knowingly harbored and aided global terrorist.
If you fuckin believe that you're too far gone. You're drowning in a whirlpool of lies. I actually feel sorry for you for being so fucking gullible. Wow. Yeah, no logical conversation is going to amount from this. Iraq had nothing to do with terrorism. Their acts in 1991 had been acted against already. The only link between Iraq and terrorism is that both parties consist of brown people. Ignorant America at its best!!!
what have i lied about? name one thing? i never claimed there was this link, that speculative. i mentioned three invasions in less than two decades, things you ignore.
He was my half brother. thank you for this. his brothers thank you for this. his father thanks you for this.

yeah, I was surprised when al-Malaki wanted a timetable for withdrawal, which makes me think that our administration actually gave them a sort of true democracy... though they did want Chalabi to be in al-Malaki's position, but that didnt work out. So I guess its not all bad, and the violence has decreased quite a bit, but at what cost? Their infrastructure is practically destroyed, all those years of history were looted, we have a huge debt yet again to China (only?) over this, among others.
psykotrol 3 years ago
A sudden pull out would be a bad move , They should make use of this baby democracy they've created and have a referendum and let the Iraqis decide if the U.S stays or goes, I think the debate of wither or not Iraqis want Americans forces in their country can never be resolved untill this is done.
Gringoman911 3 years ago
If the Iraqis hypothetically by majority choose for a American pull out in the refferendum,As a result things turn to shit you can deflect blame from yourself.
My opinion western troops need to get out and be replaced by a Pan Arab peace keeping force.

Im an avid chess player. The tactics in what you describe is about getting rid of people who chop people's heads off and it would take time to see effects. Unlike tactics.. the strategy involved would decrease deaths instantly because you would be making peace with your enemies. You see.. that is the difference.. you were wong.

That Strategy you describe isnt so much about getting rid of terrorists who chop people's heads off. It is about making peace with your enemies.
MagicalMountains 3 years ago
certainly it is. most of the insurgency in al anbar were foreign, not iraqi, but again, keep ignoring facts.

Yes you did. You called Saddam evil and hunted like racist people the Sunnis and anything that was a part of his life.
MagicalMountains 3 years ago
saddam was evil, i never called all sunnis evil. and saddam only embrace religion late, he was always a secular leader. i never said all sunni's were racist. but...saddam certainly hasa thing for mass graves for kurds.
battim 3 years ago
You invaded Iraq and called the Sunnis evil under your racist regieme which caused a big and instant power shift that people couild not handle. Now you are restoring power back to the Sunnis. It isnt that you have become sucessful in your Iraq strategy.. its because you are LESS retarded.
MagicalMountains 3 years ago
well, ahem, i didn't personally invade. as for racist regime, certainly that is an odd assessment and an emotive response. noone called the sunni's evil, certainly wahabbism is. you apprently have no idea what you are talking about. the sunni's aren't in power...its a shared power. odd you missed the facts. This video is an insult to Iraqis and my intelligence.
Have you been to Iraq? I have.
As long as you support the illegal occupation in Iraq, you will justify it through any means.
You disregard the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis killed by US phosphorous bombs...you disregard the indiscriminate killing of women and children.
You ignore the fact that Shi'a and Sunni are provoked by US soldiers to attack each other
You say you understand the situation in Iraq but it is YOU who knows nothing.
ShiaAfghan 3 years ago 5
actually you are insult to your own intelligence. i never claimed to supprt the invasion, in fact, i was against it. you simply don't know my point of view. but keep thinking you are in the know, you'd be surpised where i've been. sunni's and shiites have been killing each otheer for 1500 years...guess we provoked that too.

The terrifying thing about all wars is that we will never fully understand them. This is so because we can never fully understand the depths of human nature. We say "let's learn from history" but we never do because the animal inside of us is dark. We have an animal inside who is light as well. But human nature IS the first start to understanding wars.

brzezinki is a frightening man...no two ways about it. expect carter policy from him, more arming islamic militants coming your way...
battim 3 years ago
I will say one more thing about this particular issue and that is that I think Obama's plan to move the troops that we already have to Afghanistan is a good one that makes sense. I am sure he had advisement on that and I think some of it came from men in fatigues.
Rh1no1 3 years ago
"never enter a land war in asia" linz, there is no way to win in afghanistan. the english and russians with all of their might and no media couldnt do it..neither can we. afghanistan is about two things, running pipelines from the oil in the "stans" to the water. its this policy that scares me about obama the most, he ignores history and has no understanding of the war there. its been called no mans land for 4000 years for a reason.Yes men in fatigues, certainly not those who understand it
battim 3 years ago
its certainly why we NEVER put troops in there in the 80's. its a trap. pakistan understands that. china and russia do too. its simply not winnable, i'll send you some links. obama surrounds himself with folks who agree with him, much like bush does. its insular. brzezinski has always wanted a war in the balkans. its suicide.
battim 3 years ago
the terrain alone is part of the problem. its not the men if fatigues that understand it. its afghans that do. the reason things are working in iraq is because we are using husseins tactics...not our own. anyone general that thinks we can win in afghanistan is doomed to be wrong. the russians employed 400,000 troops and could not deal with the pushtan resistance.
battim 3 years ago
obamas insistence in attacking pakistan as well could literally be the hrnets nest western chinese and yemenese need to begin militarization of the entire balkan region. a world war in this region would make WW2 look like a carnival. obama is frighteningly naieve to believe russia and china won't eneter the fray and literally crush us, in a way we've never seen. afghanistan is the major reason obama scares me.
battim 3 years ago
its is not our geopolitical sphere of influence, and india will sit idly by as the chinese and russians do everything in their power to watch us fail, and fail we will. afghanistan was a mistake. the taliban was not al quaeda. its was dumbheaded on bush's aprt and escalating as obama wants is worse. i dont agree much with clinton, but he was right on this. guided missles will slow them down, but history shows, we can NEVER defeat the mentality.
battim 3 years ago
Thanks for giving the presentation, it was informative about current strategy in a way I hadn't seen before.
Having a "winning" strategy after five years is better than not having one. However, America's policy of foreign intervention is very dangerous and expensive. Spreading democracy by invasion is not a valid macro strategy (no matter what micro strategy you use). It is time for a 180 degree change back to the founding father's philosophy of non-intervention and leading my example.
jokertim777 3 years ago
joker, i cant disagree with most of this. that being said, its not the same world it was in 1776...
battim 3 years ago
The tech has certainly changed, but people haven't for about 6,000 years (and probably farther... if we had better records). The more history I read, the more I firmly believe that the founders (who knew history far better that our current generation) had it right. Reading Plato's dialogues shows their society was every bit as nuanced as ours, and the politicians were just as clueless and corrupt.

Clockworkforest 3 years ago

battim 3 years ago
You have got to be joking. You are seriously going to concentrate on tactics instead of information?
Go forth, you clearly know everything. No possibility you can be wrong or have missed a layer of information or context. Just like everybody else.
Clockworkforest 3 years ago
again, by the very definition of imperialism you are wrong. you've been reading too much chomsky. you use emotive terms that are not applicable. you made the claim, prove your point of view. this is not empire building...colonization is not imperialism. but keep using emotive terms to make your points.
battim 3 years ago
"Imperialism: A national foreign policy of extending areas of political or economic control, often by force." Grosset-Webster
"1. the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, OR of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies." Random House Unabridged
There's more as well.
There is a context to language, as well as words. Best to understand the context that is being presented, than to presume the context one is aware of. Perceive, don't project.
Clockworkforest 3 years ago
certainly the same can be said of you...imperialismm by your definition would not allow authority of a local government nor a short term exit strategy.
battim 3 years ago
A local government instituted by the US (and a system that will work better with our economy), in a country that just happens to have crap loads of oil? Sounds like political and economic control to me. You are thinking of Imperialism as us having to put our flag down and say it is ours, not necessary. We are changing the political climate to make it work with us (as opposed to against us).
Clockworkforest 3 years ago
again, imperialism infers we be yanking their chains, not them tossing us out in 2010, no?
battim 3 years ago
We implemented a western governmental system, securing trade as well as permanent bases.
I'm giving up here, no real point as it's just my perception and not necessarily the truth.
If you care to increase your understanding and information please read Beyond Culture by Edward T. Hall. It isn't about the war, but it is useful information for anyone. I can't say that it would change your opinion, but I can say that you would benefit from the info (as would anyone really). Have a good one.
Clockworkforest 3 years ago
trade is not imperialism....lol. imperialism is taking it. i just don't like temrs that compare modern geopolitics to genghis khan, its simply not the same lump of action.

Clockworkforest 3 years ago

Clockworkforest 3 years ago

battim 3 years ago

BTW you spelled Barack wrong.

BTW your ignorant.

CaressOfMoonlight 3 years ago
you original statement was an ad hom, and your facts were wrong. until you are not guilty of being an illogical mess, keep your "ad homming" of "ad hoims" to yourself. facts. do you have any?

CaressOfMoonlight 3 years ago
And you weren't when you brought them up? Excuse me but the battle is outlined by the first who makes a comment, you called us invaders...I called you an evolutionary mistake.
Even i think?
CaressOfMoonlight 3 years ago
So, call them coalition forces. Not all of them are not Iraqi. I'm sure many of them are. Considering we completely disbanded the Iraqi police force upon arriving (SMART MOVE!), making thousands of people angry at us and putting thousands of people out of work, Im sure they found a nice little home with the insurgents. If you'll read my comment you will see that I never purported to know anything about Iraq. Unlike you, which I think is rather funny. I just said we committed a war of aggression.
mistaspot1 3 years ago
in al anbar none of them are iraqi. you dont even know what you are talking about. really. and i do know a thing or two about iraq...lol. you civ lackeys and your know how. if you dont know anything about, why ya runnig your illogical silly little mouth.

battim 3 years ago
How did we not commit a war of aggression?
Answer: The Iraqi government was linked in supplying weapons to the terrorists who attacked us. Then denied it, and refused to cooperate politically, did not respond to military threat. The 'committed' the first act of aggression. Check your facts.
What did Iraq do?
Answer: Knowingly harbored and aided global terrorist.
