@bensontam it is still a chinese clothing with a history, and beautiful to the boot, note that every dynasty have different styles of clothing. saying that hanfu is the true chinese clothes is denying history and culture not to mention pride!
heck we have 56 ethnic minority and maybe more than that for "han" ppl..
@bensontam because manchu as an identity really does not show just by it's clothes, manchu is an ethnic was created after the fall of ming dynasty, before that they were just a mixture of chinese tribes and jurchens. If you read the history of chinese migrations, majority southern "han" chinese can be said as a descendant of previous middle/northern dynasties. before the mongol empire many nomads used to wear what you called hanfu. cheers =)
@bensontam Oh btw most northern/steppe clothing is based on hanfu too, it's a modification to suit northern terrain and it's more convenient on horseback. I view ming dynasty clothing as a mixture of hanfu and steppe styles. every dynasty since han have their own distinct styles of clothing.
@tdzheng the reason why ming dynasty still has steppe styles is because they adopt the Mongol horseback style for their military. However, in Qing dynasty, what the manchurian did to the Han chinese is cultural genocide, people who dressed Han style clothing and without shaving the forehead would be executed.
How do you call that brutual history a cultural exchange?
@bensontam well it's only clothing and shaving forehead or death, it was proposed by a chinese who was ridiculed by his own ppl. It was to differentiate loyalists and rebels, take taiping rebellion for example, the chang mao's (long Hairs). smart but also created a lot of problems.
Other than that any cultural diffrence? like chinese new year and stuff?
0:27, 1:05, 1:46, etc are Manchurian Qing Dynasty clothing. It's not ancient since it was worn within the last 300 years. The Qing Dynasty is technically considered modern China as well.
The only ancient Chinese clothing would be the hanfu
tat's man chu clothing !! not the original chinese one

@tdzheng Then why do we have to use Manchurian dress to represent all 56 ethnicities? Does that mean China = Manchuria?
