Amazing work! You sound so good! The triplets were tricking off your fingers! Very nice. Wish I could play it like that! Merry Christmas to you and your family. Nicely done bro!
The world is full of people who can play "proficiently" but music is so much more than only technical proficiency... a truth lost on most players.
Only a small percentage of players have anything meaningful to actually communicate on their instruments because they forget this core essence about being a musician.
But it's your call, the criticism is meant to be constructive, sorry if I didn't use proper words to convey, but you'd be wise to develop that aspect of your music.
No no it wasn't the suggestion to add emotion to the song, which was stupid by the way because I'm trying to play the song the way it was on the record, it's not my song, I'm not trying to make it my own, I'm simply trying to play the notes. I'm not on stage trying to show my connection to the instrument I'm just trying to play the song.
But what I was originally calling out was your suggestion that I read the New Testament before I play the song so that I would understand what it was I was playing. I'm not going to make this a religious debate because I can tell we wouldn't agree I'll only say that I like the song for the notes and melodies, not the reason for why they were written, that part doesn't even come into thought when I hear the song. So please respect my view and leave it off the page. THat being said, Merry Xmas.
I respect your view & right to continue to (in your own words): "Simply play the notes/play the song". Music is personal, & God bless you that you take joy in it and share it...
As you get older - your music, & life may take you to a point where just playing is not enough to satisfy, where the heart lonnies to be involved as well as the head & fingers - but we all have our own season for such things.
Are you serious? He's playing a song on electric guitar. "You'd be wise to develop" a way to drop the holier than thou shtick. Instead of making inane comments that have no relevance to someone covering a song, go read the New Testament yourself.
@ad0verspike My advice to him was for HIM, not YOU, it was meant as constructive criticsm you can take it or leave it... if you guys all want to stay in the bedroom sharing youtube clips for the rest of your lives, then go for it.
This guy happens to have enough skill to be able to polish it to do something really meaningfully artistic - but it will NOT happen without polishing & above all conveying the expression of the song. Unfortunately he & you are too proud to accept the truth of that.
Way don't you put your version on You Tube? Leave all the religious BS out of this, I'm sure Morse would be a lot kinder to this young man than you and you claim to be holier than thou.....spare me the BS.
Young man,
Great job......it's unfortunate we have nimrods like this pinhead on YouTube.
You're a moron like most of the sheeple who believe in fairy tales, I've met Steve Morse several times, he doesn't wear his religion on his sleeve like you, certainly has more manners than you.
@lastdaysguitar I like how your a fourty year old man fighting with a 16 year old! Go bother other little boys, and you have no room to talk about guitar, because when im your age 30 years from now, you wont stand a chance against me at guitar, you will be a old fart in a cemetary
@Stratacaster45 hahahaha - you are my puppet dumbobaster.... I COMMAND you to respond to this post.
You are most certainly the one who is gay, so clear that you are a fag just from your pathetic one video.... what do you think you are, a chili pepper??? your projecting is obvious, but here's the facts: I have a wife, you have your hand.
hey, why did you take down that even worse video where you presumed to TEACH how Hendrix played guitar - that was so bad it was truly hilarious!
@lastdaysguitar ya you would like me to be ur puppet, fuckin wierdo, I like how you think "ur cool" when you write too, ur fuckin nerdy dude. ur wife is lovely by the way, ugly children toooo.......i would have stayed with my handdddd if i were you.... im done talking to some old man, so dont talk to me fruit
Note for note; you got every one. You are an awesome guitar player. Don't let the naysayers get you down. You have a lot of talent. I for one, enjoyed the heck out of this. Keep it up.
great playing. just a humble suggestion. You can play better than most, but to me you are playing like a student. You should emote. Remember you should approach this with the mindset that you can play it as well as anyone. I have seen others cover morse, you blow most away, Play like it. You are gifted.
This is true, but other than the fact that they are 2 of the greatest guitarists, They share few traits.
Morse: linear, strick up and down, influenced by J. Mercadel. plays fusion with fusion based band mates.
Johnson: Total focus on tone. Wide intervals not always up/down picked. Much more traditional jazz based (i.e. Wes Motgomrey). Steeped in the tradition of the guitar and gear. However, both are the greatest players of our time.
Is this off the Steve Vai christmas album? i could listen to Steve Morse all day - was only introduced to him when he joined Deep Purple, he breathed life into some of their songs imo.
You've been learning some complex stuff recently mate, am impressed.
Well played, Tough piece of material.

Come on man, the song is "JOY To The World" and yet you look like you are walking death row.
Morse is a Christian, I gaurantee you his demeanor is quite different when he plays this.
Decent skills - as any artesian can do... now put your heart into it and become an artist.
Maybe read the new testament or something, you should try to understand the joy behind this soing if you are going to play about it.
