  • What a wonderful, amazing dog Baxter was,we certainly will be buying his book...thanks for sharing him with all of us...hopefully our girl will bring love, and light into peoples lives just like Baxter, being herself a pets for therapy dog thanks again.

  • This is wrong! The poor dog who is clearly in pain is being subjected to being carried around and plonked next to strangers all day. Of course he can't escape or complain due to his condition. He's a dog, not a human and doesn't understand this treatment.

  • Baxter was a beautiful boy and he will be in heaven with our dog Baxter. We also had a Baxter that we had to put down in may. He to was a therapy dog. The people in nursing homes loved seeing him. We miss him so much. As I know you miss your Baxter. God Bless!

  • Really special !

  • my dog passed away on 9/18/07..Chaney had DM a nerve disorder..he was 13.miss him..Baxter looks like a sweet dog..I know you miss him alot..

  • I completely love this dog. He has changed lives, that's so great :).

  • What a beautiful dog, and an inspiring story.

  • Yes he was a beautiful spirit without doubt. I do hope his story inspires others to carry on his great work. Thank you for your thoughts and kind comments

  • @Scott0954 soo right! god bless!

  • Heartwarming. Nice tribute to Baxter.

  • Heartwarming, what a perfect description of Baxter. Thank you for your kind words

  • Baxter clearly was in pain, but endured to continue his great work. This was so touching as i just had to let my 15 year old dog cros the "Rainbow Bridge". I am still in tears as I write this, and I know Baxter is running again, free of pain, with all of our companions that were waiting for him. RIP Baxter, you deserve it.

  • Having experienced the loss of many companions over the years I know it had to be so difficult for Baxter's parents to let him go but his spirit lives on in the work all three of them did. All the proceeds from the book "Moments With Baxter" go to the hospice care and groups that train dogs to do the type of work Baxter did. I am sure he is smiling down on those of us with friends waiting at the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you for your kind thoughts and I am sorry for your loss.

  • @MrSparks17 My dog died when he was 17 years old. I was just 12. I remember to kiss him in his head, and say goodbye to him. I remember the way he looked at me as if he was saying goodbye too! He was suffering a lost from heart and lung diseases, so my parents had to take him to the vet to end his suffering.

You know...dogs can't talk but they do talk, just by the look in their eyes. They really get so deep in our lives, become our true friends, the love they give is so real and honest!

  • @joanagomes01 *a lot

  • You think dogs will not be in heaven?

I tell you, they will be there long before any of us."

    Robert Louis Stevenson

  • I have always loved this quote. Thank you for commenting.

  • Dogs are heavenly creatures. They are pure love...... if only we treated them as they should be treated.

  • I have often commented to others that if we were more like dogs the world would be a better place

  • This is great, it actually brought me and my grandma to tears watching this. Such a wonderful angel God has given us.

  • God bless Baxter and his owners, who are called to share Baxter with the dying. How appropriate, that a gentle dog, nearing the end of his life, is ministering to those ending theirs. Surely he is an angel here on earth...those whom have passed, will live in our hearts and memories forever..{ Pa}...and , there is a truth, you will reap what you sow...I know Baxter will be in heaven........we all will face death, sooner or later. May we all treat others with such compassion......

  • Thank you for your beautiful comment. So many times people miss vital connections but you were very intuitive to see why Baxter means so much to the hospice patients and why there is such a connection for them. Of course there was a connection in his younger days but it has just become stronger. I agree that one day we will all meet again and Baxter will be there.

  • Truly, it is an honor and priviledge to work with the dying., as I am a hospice nurse. Baxter, has also been chosen to give comfort, with his gentle spirit, and in his declining years, how very important, his life work is, and has been. God bless his owners for caring this legacy on, as only Baxter would know how to do, since he has done it for 7 years. And who better to understand the dying, than a dog that is declining himself. Do not pay attention to the naysayers, they do not understand.

  • What a beautiful angel, in the form of a dog, Baxter...his owners have been given the divine calling of sharing this gentle spirit, with the most delicate of all, the dying. God Bless Baxter and his owners...those whom we truly love, never leave our hearts and memories, but live forever...........

  • This video made me cry and smile. Some time ago, I was in the hospital & catatonic. It was a tiny Shetland Collie named Murphy that helped bring me out of it. The handler said this dog just didn't go to people who weren't responding, yet she jumped in my lap and started nuzzling me. Stayed with me about an hour while the other therapy dogs were going on their rounds. In many ways, that one dog made a difference that can't be described. I felt I was at the end of hope...then I met Murphy.

  • It is amazing how intuitive these animals can be. Melissa, Baxter's mom, told us of a person in the hospice care that Baxter just refused to leave, he licked their hand for about 30 minutes. That night that individual passed. Melissa says it never ceases to amaze her how Baxter just knows about things with people.

I am so glad that you met Murphy and that he was a comfort and help to you. Thank you for sharing that with us.

  • I met Baxter with my fiance at Balboa park!

  • That's Great. It's nice to know folks who have met Baxter. Thanks for telling us about it.

  • Soooo Touched!! I'm a nurse and this video amazes me... Makes me want to make a therapy dog in my facility more readily available!!!

  • It is amazing to see how patients and family members respond to the presence of these animals. Melissa, Baxter's mom, has told us some really great stories of how people just light up when Baxter comes in. Some even make special requests to see him.

  • In are most lowest times in life sometimes dogs understand us better then humans and love better then humans

  • I have always had a dog of dogs in my home. They give so much and ask so little. Some food and water, a nice walk every day and time with you makes them the happiest creatures on earth.

  • Yes they do my rottie getting up there in age but still acts like a big puppy in the back of my head sometimes I think I can't live with out him I don't know what I'll do they day he goes....

  • looks more like a shiba inu to me

  • I LOVE HIM! BLESS HIS HEART!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful - thank you so much for sharing this video about Baxter.

  • Over 18 years old! Must be something to those acupuncture sessions he gets. Dogupuncture?
