Yes they did, 350s+ 454s. Baldwin Chevrolet in conjunction with Joel Rosens Motion Performance in Baldwin NY. Very few still exist today. I myself owned a 1967 Chevelle 427 SS built in their first year of conversions, when the two were first getting together. Joel moved his shop from the old Sunco station in Brooklyn to Baldwin NY. Beautiful triple black 67 with cragars L-88 M22 Muncie. Sold it and payed cash for my first house....wish I had it back
ive done 5 big block installs in vegas 2 in monzas. they are tight but after the first 2 it became easier. cut out all unnecessary stuff first heater box wheel wells are a necessity and use a mock up bare big block first with the oil pan you are planning on using.
This is just awesome, to all the people who are saying its weak for a big block, go back and do your research. Do you know how rare a 454 baldwin motion vega is?? What he did there is something that just about every other owner of those vegas would not do.
@AntiSemantic1 Well the problem with that is simple. If its a plain old car then a basic vega would be worth as much, but its not. One of the reasons is that this car was crazy for its time and probably ran 11s back in the 1970s. For a street car thats still fast today, and whats the problem with it being a conversion. They did a lot of work to make it work well with that 454, so I wouldnt complain. Its called historical significance.
How can you tell it is weak when all it does is spin the tires??
I have watched and raced cars for 40+ years and I cannot tell how good it runs from a burnout. I have had some very fast drag cars and little could be figured about how they ran from a burnout.
c une COPO? ou c un vrai de vrai??? un ou l'autre c toute une bete qd meme :o Joel Rosen encore aujourd'hui est fier de dire qu'il n'as jamais eu a débourser 10c en garantie...
allllllllllllmost! I can't believe we almost got a clean video of a beautiful Vega doing a killer burnout---- with nobody laughing at the end.... then---- yup there it is. (I'm guilty of it myself--- but really, WHY DO WE HAVE TO LAUGH at the end of every video ever recorded in the history of mankind) i sware 99% of all burnout videos have the giggle at the end! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
hey i have a vega what size wheels and tires are one the back and front they look just right.. i have one with a stroked and forged small block 150 nitrous and 5 speed... there nasty little cars i can leave rubber all the way down main street in my little toww haha
Cool car! Stock Vegas understeered terribile stock. The big block swap was a nightmare. Nose heavy, terrible braking (even stock), handling was atrocious with the BB. Pretty sure Don Hardy did them for Motion. Small block WAS a better package but still so nose heavy. I've done plenty of swaps over the years. Due to low ground clearance, Hooker kit is the best way to go. Stay away from the rest. And leave it a small block unless you want to full frame the car, eliminating all clearance issues.
I have some questions for you I have a 1974 Chevy Vega and I really want a Big block I figure why not go big and 454 is the biggest production block but how hard is it to install? or should I stick with a small block or V6?
a big blk will fit as easy as sml blk. going big means more front end weight.you can get a lot of hp out a 350. more fun to drive. just change the front end to v8 monza
@tom69z28 Torque wont be even close. The peak may be but the area under the curve will be much smaller and it will be much more tempermental. More displacement is always better unless your class wont allow it.
Is that a true BM built back in the early 70's? Not many at all survived and the 454's were even more rare than the 350's. The Gov't forced them to stop building them with an order. Bummer cuz they were totally bad-ass.
This car is f*ckin' sweet!!! Baldwin made this car a true muscle car. Cause we don't need no stinking gas savers! o.k. maybe we do, just not this one!

GM Performanse parts makes a 572 block, if your gonna go big, GO BIG!
niclovin89302 2 years ago 5
@niclovin89302 and for the price of that you can get a decent shop to build a 632. 1000 hp on pump gas naturally aspirated fools!
cmcbunch 1 year ago
@cmcbunch And for half the price of that 632 you can build a small block with an F1 procharger on it and make 1000hp.

@74ChevyVegaMan 572 is a "production block" the limit on the engines you out into a vega are only limited by the imagination and skill of the builder
