  • I think I came

  • Jazzy, less funky. But hey, who cares, it's KICKASS!!!

  • Yeah, I guess blues can't be funky if youre closed minded...

  • this is definately funk, not blues or jazz, although it has some influences from both

  • Where can I find some musics like that to improvise? Thanks!

  • watch?v=3jCuj1kRDAI

  • 3.02 this would be the point where she orgasms

  • nice man

  • Nicely done. I was feeling it. Good tone too.

  • You're FUNKING good man. FUNK YOU.

  • Can anyone tell me what scales he's playing ?

  • @slipyourhips If some one tells you, you gotta tell me ;)

  • @slipyourhips Looks mostly like B pentatonic. But he's throwin a bunch of other little things in there too that I don't know. Sounds like some sort of jazzy thing. Maybe a few modes? Don't know much about that, but I can definitely here the B pentatonic! Hope I helped.

  • Love it =D can you share backing track so I can reply to it :) ?

  • near the start it sounded slightly more like jazz than funk

  • Year, einfach nur geil.

So ähnlich spiele ich auch :)

  • awesome.

  • I like your sound and licks. Are you a self-taught?

  • Great phrasing...!!!

  • congratulations awesome video and good playing! 5/5

    Marques Junior.

  • Nice tone man! Sweet...nice ideas too

  • By the way, great jam. Nice solo.

  • this is funky

  • @galvinadriel indeed

  • that´s how it´s done, sharp but not, smoth but on the point, playing `funky blues ` is something that you gotta love you can´t just learn it you gotta feel it.you do so .........keep hitting it

  • funk is more on grooving while blues is more on expressing.

  • just a question. what's the difference between funk and blues (besides rhythm aspects)

  • to me funk is a rhythmic thing. Dividing the bar into 16th notes. Any genre of music can be funky, you can play jazz or reggae or rock and it can be funk.

But blues is about the scale and feel you bring to the music. Blues can be funky too. I think this video is probably funky blues if I had to categorise

  • @joshualeigh It is a funky blues, Funky because of the rythm, blues because of the chord progresion.

    12 Bar Basic Blues formula= I (4Bars), IV (2Bars), I (2Bars), V (1Bar), IV (1Bar), I (1bar), V (1Bar) . All Dominant7 Chords.

    Ex: F Blues: F7(4bars), Bb7(2bars), F7(2bars), C7(1bar), Bb7(1bar), F7(1bar), C7(1bar)

  • It can have chord substitutions to chords that have the same function. You can add II-V progression, and even diminished chords and it still a blues.

  • @joshualeigh Somehow jazzy too...More than funky :)

  • @joshualeigh FUNK IS FUNK... this is blues! because the rythym is slow! The very funk is too fast than this and the riffs are disegual!!!

  • @joshualeigh what makes something 16th notes? it doesnt sound all that fast o.O

I guess i should ask what do you mean by #notes? and whats a bar?

  • @brianmgksi Basic Blues Chord Progression.

  • @brianmgksi funk is not a concrete genre in my opinion, to me its more like a feeling brought into different genres, like soul, jazz, blues and so on. if you'd want to find the essense of funky feeling, it could be in bands like Tower of Power, James Brown and so on, because the funk feeling is the whole musical expression. basically funk has roots in soul. the rythm and the groove in funk is very dominant, like in the music of James Brown for example.

  • @brianmgksi blues is coller, slower, and the percutions are not as strong as funk rythm. And blues music is older =D, made by black communauties during the slave age

  • @brianmgksi Well from all the rock, funk, and blues I've heard I come to extract an aspect I call groove from every one of the three before mentioned, which is only characteristic to these styles and is not just rhythm but deals also a lot with the melody. It makes the melody so rhythmic that you could groove to it even if it's played solo without any backing instruments.

  • @brianmgksi Blues is not funky :-)

  • This is amazing.

  • awesome feel, timing an phrasing... you're great man!

  • Dude, you kick ass!!! Great!!! =)

  • Awesome improvisation. I had a really good jam tonight that i recorded on my phone, maybe i should post it.

I'll ask my friend if it's good enough.

Anyways, completely awesome i love funk

  • terrific funky!!!!

  • where i can get that backing track? thanks..

  • Yes pleace, the backing is GREAAAAT !

  • me too !

  • dude youre fuckin' filthy!

  • V nice - sounds mostly blues scale, but I guess for the more melodic licks, it's mixolydian (major scale with flatted 7th) - you can get this 'sound' by just mixing the major/minor penta's tho...

  • great feel brother.

may i ask where you can download this type of backtracking?

  • how long have you been playing? great tone, great phrasing!

  • which scale is that?sometimes it sounds very bluesy and others very jazzy, which scale should I use to play funk?Keep on rockin people!

  • i would use pentatonic and some blue notes.

also mix the dur and moll scales

  • I think he's using some various boxes to the blues scale. Maybe some penatonic too. Anyway it sounds great! 5 Stars!

  • Blues scale and pentatonic are so similar they are pretty much interchangeable, when I play songs using pentatonic, I will throw in notes from the blues scale, and vice-versa

  • I just use mostly blues scale. . .

  • Yeah that's what I do too. All it is, is the pentatonic scale w/ a few extra notes. You can just avoid the notes if you wnt to keep it pentatonic.

  • ONE extra note

  • And it makes all the difference XD

  • The blues scale just have 1 extra note. Take the minor pentatonic and add a note between the fourth grade and the fifth grade, in other words it have a flatted fifth and the natural fifth.

  • I meant degree , not grade. My english is not very good.

  • Yeah man...sounds good.

  • backing track sounds bit lyk something from bootsy collins or pfunk

  • great sound man

  • nice! you gots da funk!

  • man love it ... love that sound

  • I like it. What scale was that jazzy sounding one... it contributed nicely to the jam

  • probably something like mixolydian or dorian. By the way joshualeigh nice job!

  • there is no particular scale. its a collection of notes added on the the basic blues scale deriving from different major and minor modes - which you cant just learn and easly play

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!

  • man is there anyway i can get that backing track

  • nice man, nice

  • Awesome man i love this jam!

  • i wish i could play funk

  • Yeah! You are cooool!!

  • Really KOOOOOoooL, very smooth! You have a great feel for FUNK!

  • hi, where can i get the backing track?

  • Very smooth lines and a good backing track.

  • very cool solo....great feeel...

  • lovely tone there dude! really got into it.

  • Nice playing and awesome backing track! I'd love to give a shot at soloing on it too. I can then post a reply here if you want? Could you send me the track please?

  • What are using to get the blues effect? Is that a pre-CBS start?

  • nice groove, great playing -- love the double note lick at 1:10
