Antonio, if you'd bothered to read through to the end you'd realise that I know he's fictional. 'See what happens if, like me, you try to find more Emmet Ray on the web.' That's what was so good about the film - it was totally believable. I was trying not to spoil it for others. You've done that for everyone now though. Well done. Next time, read right to the end and try not to be such a smartarse.
Also, thanks for your kind comments about my playing. What a lovely person you must be.
Thank you for your comment, my friend. I had to look up 'rubato'. Great word and totally appropriate for my style. Try 'Ali Bongo's Bong' if you like a bit of rubato running! Cheers again.
SUPERB.of all of the Guitarist on youtube you are the very best....PS ever hear of Tony Matolla,He was my favorite until I heard you play. Now you are number Uno
This rendition of Bubbles is one of the most graceful playing of guitar I have seen to this date. Every time I listen to it, I get goosebumps. It would be nice to play like him someday. The best part of the recording is that it is very soothing and somehow brings back memories and transports me into some sort of a nostalgic state. Thank you.
hey, exellent job her :D I've recentley watched the movie "Sweet and lowdown", which was quite fun and tragic in a sort of way...quick question though, how did you learn this song?
Cheers. Taught myself this version from memory, I was so enraptured. Before that I only really thought of the song as an old style cockney singalong, I don't read music and only use tabs if I absolutely must - the only time I have was to learn The Rain Song, mainly because it's different tuning. If you listened to the soundtrack of S & L you'll probably find that my version isn't like it at all! Just try & use instinct and feel. Mail me direct if you have any questions.
I usually don't like using tabs myself, but as you I use them when I have to. Normally I play more of a folk fingerpicking style, type of music, and I never use tabs for that. As I whatched Sweet and lowdown, I got kinda inspired to learn one or two of those short more slow songs. Do you know where I can find soundtracks from the movie? I found it difficult to track down any dowloadable songs from the internet.
You can get the soundtrack from: sonyclassical dot com
or learn the songs from: elderly dot com/books - It's a book with the original music from the film, tabs & notation I believe.
I've got neither as: a) I can't read music and b) I don't want to hear how
much better 'Bubbles' sounds in the film. Good luck my friend. If you ever want to know the chords for my version let me know. PS I have to type 'dot com' because youtube won't let us type web addresses.
but you guys know that emmet ray isn't real right? it was django rhinhardt's music and sean penn played a fictional jazz guitarist. but nonetheless, snaithb is right...the movie is wonderful for any jazz enthusiast. :)
Don't you think the whole point of the movie was to make people believe that Emmet Ray was real? In what way have you benefitted anyone by imparting this information? I'll bet you tell people film endings too. Please don't use my page to pass on your condescending thoughts - at least have the consideration to comment on the music. You're the only one here showing ignorance, not to mention a low opinion of people. Nobody likes a smartarse.
I thought it nice of him to give credit to the man who inspired Woody Allen to make the movie, Django Reinhardt, and not condescending at all. (Also, proper respect to Howard Alden, the man who played the music in the movie.) I see that you prompted viewers to look further into who Emmet "really" was, but I doubt the average Youtube viewer will bother, thus imparting that knowledge in the comment section is appropriate.
Your comment 'I doubt the average Youtube viewer will bother' leads me to suspect that you and imyourlittlestar are one and the same person, both condescending (although YOUR 'average Youtube viewer' remark is even more sickening) , both smartarse dullards. Stop wasting people's time showing how knowledgable you are and let them discover things for themselves - it's much more rewarding. Sorry to be blunt but boring people like you suck out all the fun from sites like this.

it's not "legendary" Emmet Ray, it's "fictional" Emmet Ray.... Howard Alden is the guitarist who is actually playing behind the scenes
