I was in high school and went to see Rainbow open up for Blue Oyster Cult, Dio had just left (We did not know he was no longer in the band) and they had this disco suit scarf warring homo (Graham Bonnet) as the lead singer. This was in the late 70’s early 80’s, they were booed off stage. Black more broke the neck off of his guitar and threw it in the audience and walked off stage and played the rest of the concert from back stage.
What a great band! Great singer, great keyboardist and THE guitar player! God bless Blackmore! Dio was great, Gillan was great but this guy really rocks!
Doogie was probably the best vocalist Rainbow had since Ronnie Dio left. But, I feel this is just Ritchie missing the Deep Purple years and line up. If Ritchie had recruited Doogie to Purple, then he would probably be playing with Purple still.
Best: DPurple with Blackmore when IG had his voice. Solid 2nd Rainbow. Last: Deep P without Blackmore. Which is not to call Steve Morse a bad guitarist! But Ian has not nearly the voice he did and the whole band mix of DP minus Blackmore just does not mix well. Pardon my pun, but there you are ... imo
Yes, I know all the Ronnie James Dio and Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner years, but I was not even aware that Blackmore reformed Rainbow again after leaving Purple second time round. I wrongly assumed that he went straight into Blackmore's Night.
Never knew Blackmore reformed Rainbow after leaving Deep Purple again! Thought he went straight into Blackmore's Night. Did they do any albums with this line up, or was this short lived?
cnat be purple without Gillan...or without Paice...od without Glover...Deep Purple is a team od masters of hard rock classic...Gillan Paice Glover Blackmore Lord...
After the 'Perfect Strangers' tour, Ritchie played rubbish, and was far from the soul at that time. Back in the 70's and during the first reunion tour YES, but after that NO.
its so ridiculous its not even funny. this version totally sucks. Blackmore is great, but this line up sucked big time to all purple fans. Leave it to purple to show how its done.
Paice keeps a decent beat? I do believe you're the fucking wanker that knows fuck all about music. Paicey is rock and rolls Buddy Rich, there's a reason why he's survived for so long and heralded in all circles as a fucking genius. Lets see you keep up with the Fireball intro with one pedal in 6 inch platform boots (listen live, studio version was done with 2, also with Keith Moons kickdrum.) Long story short, shut your fucking mouth when talking about Deep Purple in any bad light.
Sadly Gillan's voice is shot . He hasnt been able to sing since the 80's . Thats why Blackmore left Purple . But i would agree Gillan sang this much better
no,he didn´t use Floyd Rose at any time of his career......he just stayed used to the old fender Vontage Vibrato System or to the newer American Modern version......but I´d like to know what´s that black box on his guitar behind the bridge....
look, this is a Deep Purple song. Ian Gillan`s version is more passionate and chilling than this good, but insipid rendition. That`s it...Blackmore, get back to where you once belonged!
it's quite amusing to see how people are apologizing for saying that to them one version of a song is better than another as they would state something universally valid.. such as newton's axioms..
to me deep purple's version (with morse) is better - who cares, that's just my opinion and not a principle.
