  • Hi Pete,

Let's discuss a possible Triplet Drum Glove Endorsement By Lento Percussion.

  • What's the song at 5:00?? Kidding ._.

  • Being a left handed drummer, it's always great for me to see others.

  • Pete Riley is a great drum teacher and makes good vids.

I think the comment about left handedness is neither leftist nor hating - it is just a bit weird watching a left handed player play something and sometimes it is hard to follow.

There are of course left handed drummers after instruction, for who it must be a positive.

It is easy enough to flip a picture - I wonder if it is practical to include an image reversal feature on the video?

  • Whenever I hear other drummers playing Stewart's parts, no matter how good they are, none of them come close to copying his feel! I can tell the guy in this video is great... better than I'll ever be... but when I hear him play the chorus to Roxanne, it just doesn't have the same drive than when Stewart plays it. I'm surprised not to hear more professional drummers talk about Stewart's APPROACH to playing, instead of just his parts. Anyone agree?

  • what's the song at 2:00?

  • @DavidChoiDrumz

    "So Lonely"

  • @DavidChoiDrumz so lonely

  • It's actually not a reggae influence you are hearing in Copelands drumming... It's a jewish ethnic influence.

If I didn't hear him say it himself in an interview, I wouldn't believe it either tho. He couldn't even name a single reggae drummer that he liked... He talked about Ginger Baker and the rock greats, and then the Jewish music he grew up with. Look it up! It'll blow your mind

  • @blondiebabae It was 'Arabic' - lebanese music not Jewish music.

  • don't go hating on the lefties.

  • if i was a lefty id play open like carter beauford does idk why anyone would set their kit up differently everywhere they go to play.

i love that at the end he uses that in a lot of police songs

  • What's song at 2:44 ?

  • @Filthy04 'Can't Stand Losing You'

  • If he used the mirror option in his video editing programme you wouldn´t even notice he is left-handed

  • dude all ur videos are of my favorite drummers ever

  • i love how you did dvd's of grohl, smith.bonham and copeland both some of my favorites

  • Thinkin bout getting this dvd would be nice to learn some techniques he uses and things like that, what mics do you use to record? sounds nice!

  • check out the live version 1983 in "atlanta" you can see alot of really good shots of stew and you can figue out what he's doing!

  • at 1:15, that crash hit coming late is genious... i believe it comes 1/8 after the guitar....

  • could some one repost a mirrored version of this video please? its not making any sense

  • @pollymatication i agree, all lefty's, you should have that shit identified early and get someone to beat it the fuk out of you!!! LOL

  • I totally agree, polly i posted the same thing on another video, why would add a distraction like that while your learning

  • He isn't playing it right. :(

  • I'm left handed, however my setup is done like a righty's. I play both open-handed and cross-handed.

  • im a lefty with a pearl blue tama kit :)

  • i wish i was lefty so i could play like that

  • @jakes2II2 play infront of a mirror :-D

  • the site will be pretty tight once the drum section is a bit more developed...

  • ooo a left handed setup =D

    dont see those very often

  • I play lefty =]

  • @Da7xT they're quite common amoungst left handed drummers ;-)

  • "Stewart is a very musical player". Um, what exactly is an unmusical player? IT'S FUCKING MUSIC!

  • how much do you know about music?

  • When he says 'musical player' i think he meant that stewart is a good melodic player

  • Well, really what he means is.

Stewart plays to drive to song, not to show off like a lot of band drummers tend to do.

  • Do you play drums??... i reckon that if you did, it would sound horrid and unmusical. I can tell by the tone of your post

  • what is unmusical player!?THOMAS LANG!!!!

  • wrong

  • lots of drummers just make noise. what he means to say is, copeland uses the tones of the drums themselves in a context instead of just beating at them vigorously.

  • Stewart Copeland its the Eddie Van Halen for the Drums!; listen his solo albums, specialy Francis Ford Coppola's Rumble Fish, and The Rhythmatist album!.

Btw in minute 2:20, its a fart or something like that?

    lol

  • Sounds more like a burp to me XD

  • Mike Bordin.

  • NEat! Thanks for sharing

  • Weckl, Chambers, and Portnoy better

  • dude I used to think that guys like colaiuta, weckl, chambers other players like that were way better but Stewart copeland is so tight and he just drives the music.

  • they have different styles. you can't compare them with eachother. would be dumb.

but there are four drum gods :

    colaiuta, chambers, gadd and weckl

  • Nah i'd say

    Bonham, Peart, Carey and Chambers

  • naw bonham peart and keith moon nigga

  • That's a bit like saying that the PlayStation3 is better than the iPhone. Quite incompareable really.

  • week timeing.......need i say more.........! Why not ask Stuw next time.

  • I wondered why he kepy opening his high-hat, then I realized he was a lefty, duh

  • is it stewarts sig. snare?

  • wat snare is that?

  • stewart copeland signature

  • copeland and peart all the way

  • Dave Grohl? Hahaha. You really make me laugh...

  • DVD is good I agree, but a left-handed drum tutor??? Actually this really does me in. When he says RLRR does he mean that for a LH drummer? so should it be LRLL for a right-handed drummer? I've watched the whole DVD and I am at various points confused. I think Riley is a greta drummer and tutor but is a very poor choice for an instruction DVD.

    That's just my opinion.

    Davo

  • Maybe you could watch the video reflected in a mirror?

  • Although Pete is a left handed player, he teaches from the perspective of a more common right handed player, so rudiments and stickings explained will relate to a right handed player.

  • @licklibrary should've mirrored the video instead

  • @Dav0London I can say with all certainty that if you think Pete is a poor choice for an instruction DVD then you are not a very intelligent person.

  • at 0:41 , o really he is musical? i didnt no he played an instrument

  • Does any 1 know where to get songs with out drums on it. I really need to know. thanks.

  • you cant compare dave grohl with stewart copeland those r two totally different styles

  • I'm sorry but Stewart is 10,000 times better- theres no contest whatsoever.

  • I so totally have to agree. I've got Riley's Technical difficulties DVD, he's a very fine drummer, but as he tries to demonstrate 'Copeland' he has no zip, no punch, no pulse. I don't mean to knock him in a mindless way, and I think you will learn tons from the DVD, but Riley just doesn't capture the essence of Copeland's demolishing way of playing

  • Its obviously that you dont know nothing about this drummer...stevart is awesome, but this guy is PERFECT ALL-AROUND DRUMMER,he can play jazz as good as latin and latin music, and he has such a great technique and chops and makes best drum clinics I ever seen...I dont say that copeland is bad(he is my big influence) but you cant compare drummers who is better and who is worst...

  • dave grohl better? dont make me laugh.

  • in the list of great drummers, you have names such as bonham, peart and portnoy: i doubt any of them would be able to do what stewart did on the hihats and toms. Stewart shall be right up there

  • In the list of great drummers you have Buddy Rich,Dave Weckl,Steve Gadd,Steve Smith,Beauford Carter and many others who would be able to do what Stewart did and more! on the hi-hats,toms,snare,bass... Stewart is a big drummmer but he is not the only one

  • @shredonbass stewart is up there and bonham, peart and portnoy would all be able to do what copeland did with his hihats and toms...probably everyone who has been playing for more than a decade would be. the point is that they wouldn't be able to invent such drumparts. playing it is not the difficulty, thinking of it is.

  • @shredonbass I agree Stewart is up there with his killer style, but seriously, all three could do it if they tried, especially Peart and Portnoy but that was not their styles. If anything, Keith Moon (way overated imo) likely could not. lol

  • how bout a Keith moon DVD???????????????????

  • dave grohl is better

  • they are totally different

its like comparing the rev to travis barker

  • I'm sorry, but Stewart is better than all of those drummers.

  • i got the John Bonham dvd and thought it was brilliant, really helpfull to see the song put into segments and slowed so you can work out the parts ! Pete`s a brilliant teacher !!!

    nice one.

  • lefty!!

  • Thanks for coming out with this video!!! Can't wait to purchase it and play along!!!

  • i would like to see a andy summers dvd come out. that would be pretty cool

  • I love Stewarts drumming.

    What a great DVD =]

  • i am sure that this dvd will do well...
