  • people don't realize that advertisers and car companies spend thousands of dollars to brainwash you and make you give. them. your. money.

-That's why you want to 'impress your neighbors'

-That's why you feel like retirement at 50 with a huge house and fancy car means 'you've made it'

you're making someone ELSE rich when you buy those clothes, that car, and those movies.

do yourself a favor and put THE MONEY IN YOUR OWN BANK ACCOUNT.

life would be so much easier if we all just used our brains!!!

  • Only people following Judaism, Christianity, Islam, the war religions of hate, could dislike this video. Buddhism is for individuals to be happy. Religion is for groups to have wars and hate. Judaism, Christianity, Islam have lost their moral authority to be a world belief system. Only Buddhism has the moral authority and history to be a world belief system. Groups have no true love. Only individuals have true love. Let go to have true love and true happiness.

  • @jackgoldman1 Well its not necessarily religions that cause war, its the people. The Dalai Lama said himself that all religions have the same philosophies and are all different paths to enlightenment. He even stated "I am a Bud-Christ". I don't mean to be naggy or offensive to your views but this sort of comment may offend others and cause other people hatered and suffering. Please if you have a negative opinion agaianst other religions, keep it to yourself. No offense intended :)

  • Buddhism is amazing

  • I love Buddhism

  • This speech was very helpful for me. Thank you very much for this.

  • Thank you Ajahn Brahm

  • Does anyone know what newspaper he's referring to (at about 30:00) the "positive/good news newspaper?"

  • Does anyone know what newspaper he's referring to- the "positive/good news newspaper?

  • this guy talks too much!!!!!

  • @grenda5 Buddhism is all about taking the time to slow down and stop being so eager to get to the solution, enjoy the ride. Sh.

  • totally wonderful. theres so many words here that i place in my life and theres so many words i can use in my life now for me and for loved ones :) :)

  • great video ;)

  • Outstanding lesson...thank you for sharing.

  • Great speech thank you for posting it - and much merrit

  • When I was in highschool I used to make plans about how to destroy the world, I don't know why but I was being very serous about it, this is one of the reasons why I went to computer science school, my big plan was to create superios artificial inteligence and replace human beings completly. I now realize that I had those thoughts because I diden't think I was good enough for this world. It's a good thing I've discovered buddhism, otherwise I might have succeded in my evil plans.

  • Nice to know I can down-load these talks to my mp3 player from your web sight.

  • I am well aware of he fact that letting go of the self can bring one to enlightenment, and nirvana, breaking you free of repetitiveness of rebirths. But in this life time, I will be great, and I will take my ego with me. Ill become enlightened next time.

  • They can bless the marraige. In Cambodia traditions people usually invite monks to conduct a blessing ceremony.

  • actually plasma screens tend to have a full picture, while older little tvs have picture cut off on the side and bottom. seriously. lol not that it makes too much of a difference.

  • Is this a cutting from Monty Pythons 'Life of Brian'?

  • shall i take weed again in order to get happy again? cause ever since i quit (which is a year ago) i feel down all the time, just like before i did weed. no matter what i try, i keep feeling shit. is it bad for me to go back to weed in order to live "happy"?

  • @Mattorzo When you learn to master the reactions of your mind and body through meditation you will know why you don't need weed to be happy. I smoked for thirteen years. I had four varieties on our farm shortly before doing Vipassana meditation. I did five courses. I have zero interest in smoking because I have realized the power of the mind. Weed drains your chi and limits the power of the mind. Good Love

I smoked for thirteen years and had four varieties on our farm in Hawaii just before going to Vipassana meditation. I gave up weed and Hawaii after the realizations that came through five meditation courses. Good Love.

  • his eyes are so strange in this video. has anyone noticed that?

  • @lulu001100 Maybe it's because he's not wearing his glasses.

  • Does this guy do weddings, or is it strictly funerals?

  • @richb2004 it is considered a very bad

thing to ask a buddhist monk to officiate a

    marriage ceremony. Why? Weddings are

a symbol of attachment, the exact opposite

mode of thinking for a Monk.

    Unless you're being cheeky, commenting

on his manner of speech, in which case

there's nothing that can be said.

  • @richb2004 He does birthing rituals mostly

  • GJ calling kids freaks though. heh.

  • Wonderful video; Right speech, such an important part of buddhism. Thank you :)

  • Very nice video fofofafa BUT......you are NOT allowed upload vids longer than 10 minutes lol. Thank you for the video my beloved, wish you a great evening! With respect and admire, your forever friend --H--

  • Thank you! I hope that one day I have a chance to visit the Buddhist Society.

  • this "alfulai5" guy is bit of a messed up guy.

sole purpose in his life is to insult buddhism.

    don't pay attention to haters.

  • Agreed

  • Thankyou! This is a such a Beautiful talk, it really got through to me & brought tears to my eyes.

  • Next person who watches this: Could you help me quote exactly what he says about the wise man saying a gist of "Make sure your thoughts are worthy to break the Silence."

    -thank you

  • What he meant by " Make sure your thoughts are worthy to break the silence" is "when your thought is not pure, your speech won't be right. So, if our mind is not pure, it is better to remain quiet.

Eight fold path: (the path that leads to enlightenment- the state of mind that is blissful and eternal). This is the path that lead to the end of rebirth.

    1) Right View

    2) Right thought

    3) Right speech

    4) Right action

    5) Right livelihood

    6) Right effort

    7)Right mindfulness

    8) Right concentration

  • "Don't speak unless you can improve on the silence"

  • Thanks for posting this talk by Ajahn Brahm. It was very insightful and relieving. We need teachers like him who practice what they preach!

  • ☆LoVe & LiGhT☆

  • With their mix of accents, garish backdrop and apparently rambling streams of consciousness, these guys seem to hit the mark every bloody time! Many, many thanks to all involved! :D

  • Great! My wife and I both really enjoyed that. Thanks

  • AMAZING! Buddhism is outstanding

  • Indeed. Ajahn Brahm is outstanding too. :)

  • More Ajahn Brahm PLEASE!

  • Insightful reminders to flatten my ego. Sometimes, the message just hit me when I felt that I am "getting there" [acting a bit proud and arrogant] and having a superior feeling. Thanks.

  • im bipolar and trying to come off meds , these teachings help so much to find a middle way .thanks many times

  • thanks for great video:)

  • This is great!

  • Thank you for such a wonderful video. ^_^

  • Thank you for this vid. He is a good teacher.

  • Very true, his delivery isn't catchy with punch lines, etc... It is pretty plain but it actually adds to the calm soothing effect that lecture has. Cool.

  • man who has their cell phone on for this!?

I wasn't impressed with his delivery at first, but you can't deny how much this guy makes sense. But of course he's an experienced Buddhist. I like how he addresses spiritual wealth adding to self. Very wise. Ah, if I could sever my attachments. I've got a long way to go, but at least I know it. :)

  • 'The quality of mercy is not strained'

    Thank You; V.

  • Wonderful to listen to. Very beautiful and real words.

  • A beautiful expression of the way!

  • Brilliant - insightful yet funny at the same time.

  • Thank you with love

  • Thanks for this! It would be nice to put another tag - Ajahn Brahm (thats correct spelling) - so that more people can find this video. Cheers

  • I have been listening to Ajhn Bhram for years and I meet him in Wood Vally on the Big Island of Hawaii in 1976 he is a very togather just like you can be with meditation.

  • Fantastic, Ajahn Bhram is such a wize man.
