@xellosalina1 Becaue you have to find to numers that times to make the last number (-28) and add together to make (-12). -14 + 2=-12 and -14x2=-28 so in this case these numbers work.

I guess what i was trying to say in short was: dont think of the polynomials as "types of quadratic equations" , rather think of the quadratic equation as a method used to sole 2nd degree polynomials that cannot be solved by inspection factoring. =)......just so ya know im just trying to clear any confusion up...btw gj on trying to help those who need it and u do have the correct form of the quadratic which is Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0 ;)
@3000Johnnyboy You are confusing the "quadratic equation" with the "quadratic formula". The quadratic equation is by definition a 2nd degree polynomial equation. It is not a "method". The quadratic formula is one method for solving the quadratic equation.

She says "when an equation has a squared term in it such as x squared minus 12x - 28 = 0 it's called a polynomial equation." If this is supposed to be a definition of a 'polynomial equation' then it's TOTALLY WRONG!!!!
The correct definition of a polynomial equation is that it is an algebraic equation in which one or both sides are in the form of a polynomial.
It's very important in math to give students the correct definitions. Otherwise, you can hardly blame them for being confused!

I think at the beginning she was trying to define a "quadratic" equation, which is a 2nd degree polynomial equation such as she is showing here. The general form of a quadratic equation is ax^^2 + bx + c = 0.

@123haninn Depends on the problem and math level. Typically in beginning Algebra yes, since the students are just learning what set notation actually is.
When it has a squared term, doesn't that make it quadratic? It can be a polynomial without having a squared term, as long as there are more than three terms, unless I'm tragically mistaken.
That was a binomial equation not polynomial.

@MRprofessordude if it's 3x squared you have to make the 3 equal to 1. so you divide all three terms by 3. end up with x squared minus 4x minus 28 over 3

x=-2 plus or minus the square root of 28 over 3
that could be wrong though. im just learning this shit. i do know that you have to set the first term to 1 and im' pretty sure you do it by dividing the terms by 3

When it has a squared term, doesn't that make it quadratic? It can be a polynomial without having a squared term, as long as there are more than three terms, unless I'm tragically mistaken.
