I Like Eminem'song very much & I love Tori Amos cover a Lot too ! They are both necessary to get the real atmosphere of the song. When I listen to Tori Amos song I can't help it seing Eminem's face in my mind. The cover is so perfect that I have both their face singing together in my head.this is the aim of the whole song. The words are so disturbing that I don't wanna read any of your superficial comments. Music is the secret door to my soul & not to your opinions.I LoveTori's cover madly, deeply
It's a really cool idea to cover this song from Kim's perspective, but I don't like how it turned out. The music in this sounds like it's deliberately trying to scare you and it's not that enjoyable to listen to.
In em's the music is better, but it's not like that makes the song any less terrifying. I think it's scarier that he says all these things to his daughter like it's cute.
She makes it sound all misterious and desterbing. Guess that's the point hU? How messed up the song really is once you get the words and the meaning of what he's saying.
Well, this was strange to listen to. I'm a huge eminem fan but I also like artists like tori. I guess I can say knowing them both that i'm a litlle shocked that she did this song. I don't think it came out too well but props to her for her effort. I think it validates eminem a little more so because as i said I could never imagine tori and all she stands for doing this song. Kick ass. A for effort!
@pineapplebaron Why? A song that talks about killing and dumping your child's mom in the lake and sets it to a simple beat is somehow untouchable? Give me a break.
@widdlepuddyfat It has nothing to do with content, but everything to do with artist. To the avid Eminem fan, '97 Bonnie and Clyde is a classic. Classic songs by famous artists just ought not to be touched.
This cover is interesting but seriously, the original has a meaning, it's not just a song with a catchy beat as someone said. He's talking to his daughter so there's a contrast between the horrible words and his tenderness towards his child. And his words are understandable if you know a little bit about his life and how women hurted him so bad.
Wow, so basically you're saying that it's ok that Eminem is asking her daughter to help him while he murder his wife because she was a bitch and she hurt him a lot. Wow. Really, wow.
@valky456rie at first I thought so, and then I thought, saying dada is more powerful, like she still has feelings enough for him to not bad mouth him to the child or try and brainwash the child against him
...A lot of brilliant music, poetry, literature, etc. have been written throughout mankind because of the emotions brought by relationships and love. Does she even register a reaction if he was homosexual and aiming the violent acts toward his male partner? O if it was a female writing those lyrics about killing her man? I don't know if she does...but I can say, it was just words, a fantasy, a journal entry, an emotion put to song. It takes balls to put something that personal for all to hear.
This song was, in my opinion, a genius piece of writing both lyrically, and in delivery that Eminem created for it. I certainly love Tori and consider her my favorite female artist ever, but was suprised and amazed by her complete distaste and negative comments she made about it. I do completely understand her hating the lyrics for the violent acts toward a woman that it portrayed, but i am suprised that she, as a fellow artist, did not see that it was just emotions pouring out in song....
@jdneighbo1 I don't think it was the emotions pouring out in song that she objected to, I think it was the clinical, rhythmic justification of violence
@pionstail Justification doesn't really apply to that, it's a fictional tale, no different than violence portrayed in novels and theatre. At no point in the lyrics does he try to incite others or suggest to others that they should harm their spouse if they can take no more from the spouse. Is it graphic? Yes. Is it disturbing? Yes. I'm just suprised by Tori's reaction being that she is an artist also and knows that great music comes alot from strong personal feelings and emotions.
@jdneighbo1 well music is a medium for her that I imagine is very real. So she responds in that way. I think for her, Eminem had dressed up a murder in a pretty dance tune because it was funny. And she wanted to strip the music away and show another side, show the irony for what it was and force the listener to interact with that. In a way, she's exposing the strong feelings that you refer to that are hidden by the beat.
@pionstail I turned on one of my longtime good friends to Tori's music when we were in Jr high and she became a huge fan, anyway, she showed me a copy of Spin magazine from years ago that has an interview where she expressed that she would like to cover G'n'Rs song "Patience" and that she really loved their album 'Lies'. That album has the song "Used To Love Her, but I Had to Kill Her". So i was even more suprised that she singled Eminem's song out after reading her quotes from that.
@jdneighbo1 well, I can't really comment on that because I haven't heard the song or the album that you're referring to. But maybe she just wasn't inspired by that the way she was with Bonnie and Clyde, I mean, like I said, maybe it was the cheerful dance tune that made her think "I need to address this". And like you said, if there is emotion involved there isn't gonna be a lot of rational explanations....
Tori Amos did this cover so people could realize how horrible of a song it really was. Eminem's version doesn't seem too bad because the words are hidden behind a catchy beat. Tori's version is done whispering so you can really understand what's going on. Well done Tori! You are amazing.
I thought she did a woman's version cuz she thought eminem song was disgusting...Like murdering the father. lol. So i guess she loved eminem's song to redo it the same way?
I honestly, thought this song was completely different from the original. I heard this before the original and when I was pretty young. My sister loved Tori Amos and used to play it and of course I would hang out with her and listen. I always thought this song was about a man who was having an affair with Tori, and the woman was the one who coaxed the man into killing and disposing of his wife or ex wife and Tori was trying to convince the daughter and herself of various things.
Maybe this woman, Tori took a liking to the daughter and was making her her child in her mind. Like "Just the Two Of Us" to me, meant that her father was going to jail/prison/hell so Tori would take care of her and she'd become her daughter. I dont know, its just my opinion but maybe I got a little creative when I was younger. xP
Angry white boy-music about a guy who butchers his woman while the daughter hangs on. This is the woman's time to shine. It's her voice - singing the same song - and that ghost of a shell is the epitome of the haunting sound you hear. 10/10!
@trusttruth1985 She didn't want to change the lyrics of any of the songs she covered. She's supposed to be singing it from the dead mother's perspective; hence, the breathy voice (from her throat having been slit).
@EMBvideos But I don't think she wanted this version to be "fun." She's intentionally breaking up the flow and forcing you to really listen to the lyrics and their disturbing imagery. I think the point is to make the listener fully contemplate the horror of what this song is about instead of focusing more on the beat and grooving to it. A great cover should make you hear the song from a completely different perspective, and I think this version accomplishes that.
@justanotherdruid Except this isn't a "tribute" to Eminem. It's supposed to be horrible. It slows down the song just enough for you to hear what he's saying without the thrill of it being sung (she also changed the perspective to the mother without changing the lyrics).
@titusdeluxe An asshole? I suggest you go watch his recent 60 minutes interview.
And as for him being untalented? He's sold more albums than any living artist. I suggest you go listen to Despicable and find out why. Then again, you probably wouldn't be able to wrap your mind around the triple-meaning metaphor's and word play involved in his brilliant lyricism.
...There's a reason the man is one of the most exalted people in the music industry, and the rebellious voice of an entire generation.
@justanotherdruid I relly liked your reaction, good points and arguments.Probably Eminen is a tallented guy but the way he makes music is not the thing i use to like,i ve heard many of his songs and lyrics just to have the right chance to critice him so i am not being superfitial. I respect that you dont like T.Amos but if you REALLY aprettiate the tripe meaning and metaphor's on brilliant lyricism , you dont know the way this teacher is...A true beast at the stage, playing 2 pianos,By far...
@titusdeluxe I never said I don't like Tori. I have respect for her, she's original. I was just saying that this doesn't work. Em wrote the song from his point of view. It was something he was really feeling at the time (there's an interview from 1999 talking about it). He's talking from his mind, his life, his feelings.
Tori is coming in and trying to literally, word-for-word, display those feelings. And it doesn't work because she's not the artist. It's like Picasso drawing the Mona Lisa.
@justanotherdruid im not agree with you, she didn't make a cover, she gave to eminem's song a different interpretation, a whole fem sense. there s no necessary to make or change the lyric , actually the song has a lot of meanings (masculine or fem). if a singer is not the producer , the maker o composer no means that is not possible to "touch " the piece. That what the icons are for...Examples?
@justanotherdruid As someone who thinks Eminem is moderately talented, you're embarrassing HIM with these comments--calling Tori's cover "dumb," and then trying to backpedal and say you have "respect" for her. You're welcome to not like the direction she took this track in; I wouldn't expect an Eminem fan to, anyway. But to seriously doubt that she didn't understand the track, even after listening to it in its entirety, is absurd.
@justanotherdruid All I know is.... if one of his examples of his "brilliant" lyrics is him rapping about butchering a woman and dumping her in the middle of nowhere, than he deserves none of my interest or respect. That kinda shit will never be okay with me. Justin Beiber has also been ridiculously successful could also be considered a voice of of our generation, so big fucking deal...At least JB doesn't sound like a violent misogynist in his songs.
She is showing how creepy the lyrics are duhh. Can I be on the top comments too?

But to seriously doubt that she didn't understand the track, even after listening to it in its entirety, is absurd.

@jsmyrski "moderately talented"? Please name a lyricist beyond Eminem's level.

The brilliant aspect of his lyrics that people are referring to are his story telling qualities that other some artists fail to utilize as well.

This is one of my favorite songs, yet one of the most disturbing songs I've ever heard.
