This song has that element that drew me to the Verve...........the band playing its instruments. Good vocals..........paints some stripes without taking away from the strange machine like breathing of the track.
I really dig the early Verve sound, but I wish they had a couple more of those triumphant sounding tunes like "Bitter Sweet Symphony" or "Lucky Man" on the final album. I will truly miss the Verve.
I agree with comment below, this is the verve i know and love. Sounds like the lucky man ep. Ashcroft definately needs the verve and that has been prooved by his solo stuff, i love the man, History especially, but his solo stuff was weak and soft. Nice to hear the riffs and basslines and that swirly verve sound, earls court 97. Together they stand divided they fall.
Another QUALITY cut that was left off in favour of a Ashcroft ballad! He is hardly on this track and isnt missed at!! Just adding what the groove calls for and not over-doing it, like some of FORTH!
yeah i know. i was sad that they left this off. just add it on to the freakin album so people could see how great the verve jam and groove. fuckin love the bass and guitars!
This is The Verve i know and remember! CHic were very influential especialy where basslines are concerned. If you listen to Disco you find all types of live instrumentation and orchestrations. s
Jesus Christ Simon Jones can pull some cool bass lines... god bless is infactuation with Chic... strange inspiration to have... But man It's cool.... Even better that his climax on Lifes an ocean glasters 08 set. Jones, Ashcroft, McCabe & Salisbury you rock better than anyone!
Yeah, his lines are really tight with drums and groove like crazy! Just listen to even something as minimalistic as "lucky man" and those notes just click with the drums perfectly. And it´s not studio trickery cos` he can pull it live too!
this is the verve!, and it's brilliant

The Verve have more great songs on their b-sides than most of the nowaday bands on their regular albums
