@Amy5155 I did the solo when I was a boy, It was my favourite piece then and ill never forget it. I can remember how excited i was to finally get to perform the solo i'd heard older kids sing year after year. I hope it went well for you!
I sang the alto part when I was 14, and then did the tenor and bass in subsequent years, but haven't sung it since I was 18. Lovely to hear it again, and thank you for posting.
This is one of the best versions of magnificat. Stanford really wrote a masterpiece. I was so lucky to be together with the st Johns college choir in december 2010. They are absolutely the best choir in the World and this recording is just another proof.
@Lythforce I know, it's supposed to be but it actually works quite good being sung by a girl as well (my church has both a boys' and a girls' choir who sing at different services, always with the men).
It's funny in this Stanford Magnificat and also the Stanford in C, the composer really makes a startling (and amusing) key change because he's gone so far away from the main key and he wants to get the choir back to it as fast as possible. It happens at the same words too..."As he promised to our forefathers..." 2:27 . The transition from A-flat major to G major. In the Stanford in C the sudden key change is from G-flat major to G major.
st Johns college choir is one of my most favourites, im lucky to live in Cambridge and i attend evensong 2 maybe 3 times a week at the chapel of st johns.
My lifelong ambition to do this solo in cathedral and now i get to finally do it <3

I was at the prep school in the early eighties and loved going to chapel on Sundays for the beautiful acoustics and these wonderful anthems

Excellent performance, especially from the organist. Does anyone happen to know who's playing?

'Just sang the Magnificat in G in practice today...I think the premises of the Coventry Cathedral was filled with ministering Angels as we sang.

This is a good version. I've done it myself with Herning Kirkes Drengekor

I think I've done the alto, tenor and bass parts in this, over the time it took my voice to break (1994 to 1996).

...the organ part for this is a right bugger to play!

@joeyboi87 It's tricky to sing along too, the time signature is tricky, its tempting to get ahead of time!
