For me the GEM car has always been the very best of any of the EV commuter cars.
And for every reason you can think of. I can't understand why they haven't been a much bigger success.
There a a ton of new design EV's out there now and not one of them makes sense like the GEM. It seems they are all bent on being unique no matter how silly they become.
The only thing this little EV needs is a more robust series for the colder regions,
I love the idea but the cost to build these things = nothing. Optional fan, means an old fan from a1982 school bus, its basically trailer with a poor electric motor, there are 30hp electric motors that are lighter in weight and more efficient then whats used in this thing. The only advantage, would be being able to put a tag on it, which means, dont drive in over a 35mph zone, in too much heat or in snow.. If your looking for a golf cart, this is great..
1:50 "People are very conscious about there carbon footprint." Umm ... Bullshit! I never think about it; I don't really think about the collectivist agenda at all, now that you mention it.
Some DMV's in Alabama will tag them however the state has not adopted the federal law or created their own. Tennessee has adopted the federal LSV law and will title and tag GEM's
@kimmarie801, the GEM 2 passenger vehicle has a base price of $6795, plus tax, license and delivery. A few options (like doors) will put it near $10K.
In our small business SWEN Weathervanes we use our Gem car in the warehouse as well as running to the post office. I works GREAT in the winter in NORTH DAKOTA. We LOVE our Gem Car!!!
I'm in the market for one. Doing my due diligence at fasteconomicalcars (.) com

I have a GEM and it rocks. I save so much money on the small things I have to do while in transit. Worth every penny.

Here in Alabama, and Tenn. they won't tag a low speed vehicle. So the state and preventing people from being green.

charizmalady, get some people together and file a class action law suit against the state. Somebodies got to stop these bumbling public officials.

It looks nice but it will only serve certain people. If you live in an inner city they would work. This is a niche vehicle.
