The whole "hardcore" coin came when punk bands started shouting (or screaming) their lyrics rather than singing them. It has since spawned several sub-genres, not all sXe...

Minor Threat was without a doubt a straight edge band. Other noteable sXe bands of the day: Gorilla Biscuits and Slapshot, many more.
