  • Oh man. You guys know that feel when you spend years remembering a game you saw when you were little, but forgot it's name and then by sheer Luck you find it again and remember it's title? This is how I feel right now.

Heheh. And the only reason I spent so long looking for this game was because of the woman in the intro. She was my first crush from a video game...before I actually knew Samus was a girl. *don't kill me please!*

  • I saw an AES version of this game on ebay for $960.

  • Wow, this looks like an epic R-type rip-off. Anyone confirm?

  • Stage 1--R-Type anyone..?

Anymore AiCOM games like this (i.e. IREM)?

    Metroid --> Orn ('fan game')

    Figure it out!

  • i had a neo geo aes and neo geo cd i lost patience with both, aes costing to muc and neo geo cd was slow as shit.

  • @aryinc MVS is the way to go. Just make a supergun or get a candy cab.

  • @JBHutto

yeah thats best way to play this.Neo geo is awesome but at the time when it was released it actually already was dated, compared to the arcades.

  • wow what a great game! True classic arcade style!!!

    Is this an emulation?

  • @Phyle9 Yes it's being played on an emulator and you're right it is an awesome shooter.

  • It gets hard as nails after stage 2...

  • I had a real chance to get this for the AES last year and I let go of it. Should have got it.

  • @samuraispiritsx It's the same game like MVS. I have it and i very proud to play this on my cabinet.

  • @samuraispiritsx Yes, but it's more expensive than MVS and you can't play on arcade cabinet.

  • As a R-Type fan, I liked this game a lot. Hard as fuck though. However, as in R-Type, after memorizing a good route, it gets easier.

I specially like the part in the intro where the scene changes to the fire type world, along with the music, it's great.

  • One of my favorites too!

  • I REALLY WANNA GET THIS GAME FOR MY NEO GEO AES,gonna buy mvs get converter, this game is more like:

R TYPE- pulstar.the lost Rtype game lolzors, siriously look at it!!!

  • This is probably my favorite game of all time, it's definately my favorite shoot 'em up. I would go and buy a Neo Geo CDZ just for this game, even though I already own an AES (I'm not willing to pay 700 dollars on this one game, nor am I willing to pay 1000+ for Metal Slug).

  • R-Type clone...

  • @piolhochato It has been known for some time now that Pulstar was made by the original Irem team that made R-Type. It was originally called R-Type 4 but was renamed Pulstar when the team joined Aicom.

  • gradius 3?

  • This game was what got me into shmups. I love it. :)

  • For those who thinks it's just an R-Type clone, think again. This game is being made by former Irem employees who are used to be one of the development team members on R-Type series. I love both R-Type and Pulstar. Did you know? NeoGeo CD has more scenes than the MVS and AVS version. It also has arranged soundtrack. Oh boy, this game is hard, but I loved it. ;)

  • @KaedeFuma How does former R-type people doing this game not make it an R-type clone?

  • @KaedeFuma That only proves it's a R-Type clone. Not to mention, the play and gameplay mechanics are identical.

  • @NinjaRunningWild What part of remake don't you get? Remakes with better gfx, music & sound is nothing new and there's nothing wrong with that. Like I said in my previous post, originally Irem decided to do a remake of R-Type and name it R-Type 4, except Irem went backrupt and the team working on it moved to Aicom. They probably renamed it Pulstar because Irem still had the rights to the R-Type name.

  • @Radwar99 What part of I didn't mention that and it's not a remake did *you* not get? And what makes you assume that I bothered to read your "oh-so-important" previous post? Nothing? Ok then...

  • R-Type Elements in this game:

    The Force Device

    The Wave Cannon

    Those pinching machines

    Dobkeratops.

  • Why do you think the game is lame? This game is generally held in pretty high regard by shoot 'em up fans. It's one of my favourite shooters.

  • Got to agree. Pulstar levels do indeed nod towards R-Type, Its almost as if the creaters paid homage to a legend... And in doing so, they created a fantastic game.

In my humble opinion, I prefer Pulstar to R-Type, Its one of my fave shooters of all time.

  • R-TYPE is not as good as this game. And this game if anything resembles blaze star more.

R-TYPE is kind of LAME. The 1945 series by Capcom is better.

  • actually, i'm just jealous. this game looks awesome - probably better than R-type! :)

but i hate anything NeoGeo because they're so expensive and I can't afford them. :)) that's why i'm so full of hate.

  • That's why you buy MVS not AES.

  • @MustNotRead The game has been perfectly emulated for years on computers and the roms are easily available on the net, R-Type aswell. I suggest you try both and see the difference for yourself.

  • I feel I should just run out there and buy it for AES but I simply don't have £500 to spare :p

  • I know how you feel. I'd love to own this on AES but it's so expensive. I've got this on Neo CD and the loading times aren't bad at all.

  • Ah but do you own a top/front loader or a CDZ?

  • I've got a CDZ so I imagine it's a bit quicker to load although I've never used a top/front loader.

  • I have this game on my mame arcade cabinet and it plays just as great as the orginal.. It saves you a penny or two..

I would also love to have it orginaly on the aes system but I haven't got the money to spend. In that manner a great Mame setup is the right way to go

Pulstar is great but I think the control of the ship is more responsive in R-Type.

Still this game kick some serious ass and I play it a lot, even though it has me frustrated at times:)

  • @Lemming433 Save yourself allot of money, buy a sega dreamcast on ebay

and just download this great classic...Neo geo cd's (games)work perfectly on dreamcast!! :)

  • Beautiful graphics and awesome music!

  • This looks and plays just like r-type in fact i would go as far as saying it is R-type just better gfx and harder.

  • Reminds me of R-TYPE

    but better..^^

  • I keep watching this just to look at the intro.

  • I know what you mean it's a great intro and the music is one of my favourite Neo Geo tracks.

  • Great game man. Thanks for the video. Now I have to go buy it.

  • Your vids have amazing quality. What bitrate do you encode them at?

Pulstar is my favorite Neo shooter. I just love the R-Type feel. I also think the graphics are way better than Blazing Star. BS is a good game but the detail in Pulstar really grabbed me.

Do you by chance have a vid of Last Hope or did you get to play it at least?

  • Thanks. Yeah I feel the same as you. As much as I love Blazing Star I've always preferred Pulstar. Yes I have Last Hope on Neo CD and am a really big fan of this game. The gameplay feels a bit similar to Pulstar. It's a pretty tough game though. If I can figure out how to do it I might make a Last Hope video one day.

  • Man, I need that intro music, you don´t know where I can get the intro music without Soundeffects, do you? :/

  • Galbadia Hotel?
