Atleast one of the animators that made this also worked on SDF Macross and theItano circus is older than the Macross series, it just uses it a lot more.

It isn't an anime, it was basically just Gainax showing off what they were capable of in terms of animation.

Daicon III predates Starship Troopers by about 20 years.

How can something you see here in this video be something you remember from a non-visual medium (a novel)?

I am just telling you that the novel predates the one that was shown in the hollywood film. If you have read that novel, it says that the mobile infantry there wears a mechanized body armor. And from that novel the japanese animators get their designs in creating the creating the powersuit in the OAV. By the way the OAV was made around the early 80's so it predates the hollywood version.
