The original opening theme music sounds much better than the calypso type crap they play on there now. And Dennis James was awesome. he buries Drew Carey. R.I.P. Dennis. A true MC legend
@Melodycat918 I agree. Once Bob Barker retired, I believe that TPIR went downhill on everything. I wonder how much longer before TPIR is canceled? Or until someone else takes over? Needs fixing.
I never saw a single episode of The Price is Right dating back to before 1985, that is to say when Bob Barker and Rod Roddy were the respective host and announcer. Jonny Olson's voice resonates with that Golden Age of Television vibe, so unforgettable when you hear it for the first time. Dennis James just has swagger, man.. none of today's game show hosts have been able to duplicate it. Pure class.
@remela5 You can blame us college kids for the chaos the show has become, lol. :P And I really like Dennis James here. :) It's a shame he's no longer with us.
That bacon was also the first grocery item shown in the VERY first playing..and that exact same purchase would be seen here: 3 bacons at $.99 a pop for $2.97. The lady who was the first winner as well as the first player: Dorothy Sye..she would appear again on the current version.
Oscar winner on TNPIR????? (bette Davis) This show wuz on at 7:30 where we lived. Was this host not hired? I thought Tom Kennedy eventually hosted the nighttime version. This guy here i did NOT like. Too rough.
I do like him. He is not bad, and he did host the nightime version until Tom Kennedy, but no one can replace Bob Barker. Plus he was better than Drew.
@BlackwoodCompany Actually, Dennis James hosted the nighttime version until 1977, and Bob Barker hosted the final three seasons of the weekly syndicated version (1972-1980).
Both shows lost it shortly in 1973. Mark Goodson wanted Dennis James to host both daytime and nighttime, but CBS didn't want him hosting daytime. #006N is the sixth nighttime show (they were weekly) and because of tape bicycling, they aired in different dates in different markets.
There was no pilot for this show. To get this show sold to CBS, Dennis James and Mark Goodson hosted a short pitch film on how the show would be updated for the 70s.

the contestants were so well-dressed back in 1972, as if they came from work to play. and no jumping up and down like in later years.

If anybody knows what day of the week the show would air, I'd find the airdate for this.

"If it was 5 a week, this would be Monday. "
Was it a 5-a-week program? I only remember it airing on Saturday nights on WNBC during the '70s.
