I drove from Louisville through the night to see that show with 3 of my best friends. We arrived at Mayo Maryland, smoked a joint on the beach and ended up driving through a high school parking lot as the kids went inside while we jacked Hot for Teacher loud as hell. A beautiful day and an incredible sunset that night.
I recorded the set from the audience with my cassette recorder and listened to that thing for years in my car's cassette player. Good days they were.
I was at this show with my college buddy and his little brother. We had an absolute blast (drank a bit too much) but sadly is the last time I ever saw my friend's brother he died in a car wreck a year or too later. What a great last memory from a great day. Thanks for posting!
well, maybe you should say "at the drive in" are similar to them... because there are almost 10 years of difference between both bands, I mean, between this fugazi song and the first atdi album.Fugazi are great, but nothing better than Moss Icon and Rites of Spring.
@hard 88: i say for a def.fact that Moss Icon was ispired by Rites of Spring.Moss Icon played with ~Fugazi at least 4 times, with the best ever line up being: Nation of Uylesses (1st ever show) Moss Icon,Ignition,Fugazi 1988 Wilson Centre in front of over 500 people.i was shitting my 18 year old undies (Laughter)
@serpukhovien NO. At the drive-in are very similar to fugazi and heavily influenced by them. If you see them playing live you'll notice Cedric takes alot of his moves from Guy Picciotto
i had no idea who fugazi was at the time and i happened to be visiting friends in dc and we went to see that (free) show; one of the best shows i've seen! huge but very well behaved audience
The indie movement was already in full swing by the time Fugazi came around. Fugazi really is a testament to indie groups, though. Probably the most influential non-Pixies band to never be signed to a major label.
Get a grip and a sense of humour sleepdeprivation. I suggest 10 codeine, a bottle of buckfast, look up the word 'irony' in the dictionary and then got to bed.
Guy Picciotto's old band Rites Of Spring and Ian Mackaye's old band Embrace were pretty much the first ever to be labelled "emo", due to their emotion on stage. Modern emo is a now unrecognisable derivative of these bands.
Fugazi are best labelled post-hardcore, even though that's a very vague term.
It's too bad the video guy is way off in the earlier days of Fugazi because he makes me dizzy watching this. Fugazi is one of my favorite bands so I guess I can't complain about actually seeing old video. God Bless youtube!
guy looks like he is from some other planet. thats how he gets those sounds. every aspect of this band deserves respect. praise be. so punk they can be as arty as they wanna.
lmao @ emo. those cunts are too busy cutting their wrists and telling people off for laughing at their banal, self-indulgent selves on the internet than do anything useful like get a fucking identity of their own. "Oh we dress and sound alike, we are fighting against uniformity AND are champions of individuality!" LOL! uh huh, you and yr KISS army-like clones out there in good charlotte land. Yup.
...guns n' roses? please. stay on similarity track.
offspring, green day, and gnr do not stay near fugazi because fugazi is nowhere their genre of music. i think i've just lost millions of my brain cells just reading that comment. ah itzuhwahkinggg fuuuuuuuuuuuuck
Emo originally stood for emotional hardcore; which was hardcore punk with more emotional vocals and,to an extent, lyrics., It was totally different than the retarded shit on tv you see today. Some members of those emo bands formed Fugazi. While not considered emo, the members of the Fugazi brought some influences of the bands they were formerly in and, in turn, also influenced bands that are labelled indie emo. They are important in the early formation of emo, but are post-hardcore.
but this emo vs. hardcore-discussion is really stupid. rites of spring, fugazi, soulside and all the other bands from d.c. draw a very straight line. i am listening to fugazi and to improvised music as well. both, fugazi and various improvisors (including guy p.)are describing my hopes for the future so well!
I hate the way 'emo' is used in modern time, everyone thinks it is a word to describe shit bands like "My Chemical Romance" and "Fall Out Boy" and etc. I wish Fuse (the channel) would die along with MTV2 and MTV!
why do you even care about genres? the mean nothing and essentially reflect nothing of the bands they are used to describe. Just lumping bands together is foolhardy.
Are you talking about my description in the About This Video section??? You must not be, either that or you didn't watch the video or you don't know who Ian or Guy are.
who cares about whats emo and whats not ian may have made emo but the point is he totally changed what a band could do to fight the mainstream, not signing to the major labels, not selling tickets on ticketmaster, keeping cd, vinyl gig prices low he was so anti mainstream when i saw them in london he kicked someone out for wearing a nike top. fugazi forever
NOW emo is a word that "death metal kids" use to describe "non-death metal kids". Get it fucking straight!! I'm tired of hearing this meaningless word like it actually has a genre to back it up.
The conclusion: "Emo" kids (who don't actually listen to emo) claim all the music they DO listen to as emo music. In reality, emo simply describes a counter culture where depressed bisexual kids dress like douches, cut their wrists, and kiss their friends.
dude.. since fucking when did people start considering fugazi emo?! what the fuck!? i remember all the people who listened to emo when it was a real genre... they didn't listen to fugazi... and guess what boys and girls.. they didn't cut their wrists and genderbend either.. emo was a real genre for like 2 years (check out mineral and sunny day real estate). it's not anymore.. it's simply a counter-cultural movement.
I drove 10 hours to see that show and it was worth every minute. Beautiful sunset that night (I think I remember that). I have a cassette tape recording that doesn't sound quite as good as this. Great work on this one!
I am locking down comments on my videos guys. I spend more time deleted "Great site but check this site out HOTBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH" than I do reading real comments. I hate to censor, and I won't as long as it's on topic, but these comment flooders need to be stopped.
