@aussiebluemax No. They speak Assyrian Neo-Aramaic, which is linguistically Semitic. Arabic and Hebrew fall under the Semitic category as well, so many words sound similar.
Sumeria, like Babylonians/Assyrians are Mesopotamians equally... but it was the Assyrians whom started bilingual/multi-lingual skills, established the first city states, law, medicine, and the first army in the world, to help conquer the Mediterranean; hence, the Assyrians are known as the mightiest empire of Levant.
Actually, the cradle of civilization is Mesopotamia (Sumerians, Babylonians/Assyrians). Assyrians just accomplished far more, in terms of military, medicine, linguistic skills (spoke Akkadian, Aramaic, etc.), agriculture (due to vast terrain they conquered), and so forth. That is why many say Assyrians were the cradle of civilization, although, the technically correct term used by scholars is Mesopotamia= cradle of civilization!
@blacksrt8cherokee The people of Mesopotamia, before Iraq and Syria were the countries they are today, the assyrian and syrian people lived there before the arabs came and conquered and took over.

@76iraqi Not really. We all originated from Africa and the first civilization was in Iraq; Sumeria.

Sumerians, Babylonians/Assyrians = Mesopotamia. Assyrians (although small %) still exist.
African was not the cradle of civilization; Nor was Europe. It was modern day northern Iraq (ASSYRIA).
God Bless the Semitic Assyrians, and may God Bless us all!

@BillWill80 Assyria is not the cradle of civilization. It is Sumeria, south of Iraq.
