Saying that American debt levels aren't that bad is ludicrous. If you divide it by GDP, one must not forget that well over 70% of it is consumption based. In other words, it's not producing much of value.

So there is debt, and then there is the debt cycling around in the economy (GDP).

No, the debt situation in America is extremely bad, whether it is by design or not.

Of course I'm not saying that the rest of the world is much better. I just think that that line of analysis is flawed.

It does not take a conspiracy to take down the dollar (indeed, I'm amazed how hard the powers that be have tried to keep it up; the interests of so many are wedded to the dollar), in the end it is due to cumulative systemic problems owing to the "reserve currency" status
