So deep! ...and some say 1980's music was all about image and not meaning. Love you Suzanne and I thank god that I lived through the 80's! I was 10 in 1981, 18 in 1989. Great times!
This song, and this album helped me get through my troubled teenage years. I was so in love with her music back then. It's all so beautiful. Seeing this video for me is like looking into a window to the past. Thank you for that.
One of the best written, arranged, performed and produced albums in history! That' my opinion.I don't care about video you loons,go to the movies or MTV, the bottom line is THE MUSIC DAMMIT!
Can you imagine anyone else or any other band doing this song? No...thats why Suzanne Vega is so unique. Truly an original not to be copied. I agree the video sucks and does not come close to doing the song justice.
I suppose you can't go out of fashion if you were never in it. Suzanne Vega always charted her own course. It would be a dull world if everyone were a slave to fashion.
The band dated?? Brilliant studio cats like they are, it's their job to stay up to date, what's more this band had lots to do with enhancing Suzannes brilliance and success.
Keep in mind, these songs are not new.
Because they are so good, and the record buying public is so green may account for the unfortunate fact that she has been abandoned yet definately and thankfully not forgotten.
Yes, I know how old the music is, but still I don't think its any excuse for the video. It'd be better with no video at all. I feel sorry for Suzanne since I think it's fairly obvious that the record company must have forced this monstrosity on her. Does anyone know of any Vega videos that look like she might have approved of them? Let me know.
Yeah, may they forced her to do this m/v, but still that doesn't make this m/v awful. It was '90 m/v, and quite a great quality back then. And I see this m/v was made by high quality of filming directing and editing directing. You should not laugh at old stuff, because you are living present!
And you know what? I agree this m/v look awful right now, but I can't stand on what you're saying things awful.
Gorgeous song. Love the sound (so moody and yet loads of punch) on this song. I saw her in london circa 1988 and was entranced by the music. It wasn't exactly a "performance" she just stood there and did her stuff but I loved it.
Far much worse than her Solitude Standing way back there - In 1987? She's not Solitude Now. Luka is more sincere. I love Suzanne too - and wish her Solitude actually breaks and she finds her only one.
One of Suzanne's best songs, which is really saying a lot considering her amazing body of work.
The video captures 80's music video corniness to the extreme, but her haunting and restrained presence almost makes you forget about the overzealous band members. And you gotta love those pirouettes.
I bet each guy in the band is looking at this video now, and they are truly embarrassed at the way they looked (and moved) back then. But awesome song, and I love SV.
I apologize to Suzanne if one of the band members is her baby daddy, but they are some corny looking mofos! Suzanne looks cool as always though. Great song.
the moves aren't great but the musical parts are so intelligently written it's ridiculous. These days people move "cool" but the music is moronic and shallow.
I love this song. I would say something about the MV because my perception was far different from what it would be but then I have to remind myself that the MVs that we are accustomed to are recent and during this period movie like MVs were quite rare or uncommon.
Great - Vega is a true original, compelling music and highly articulate, meaningful lyrics - love it, love it, love it. Nice 1980's fashion statements too (tee hee):) What the heck...SV is way cool for any decade.
She's one of my all time favourites. My mum used to play me her songs when I was a little child. I can't remember much from those times but I know I used to love her, as much as I love her now. Especially this song, it makes my back shiver. I went to see her a couple of months ago and she was still amazing, I recommend you to buy tickets! She encored like 1,000 times! Her basist, Mike Visceglia, was also mind-blowing, and Blood Makes Noise on bass sounded fantastic.
This is a serious song and can be interpreted in many different ways. I've always loved Suzanne Vega. I love her smooth clear voice and her songwriting. She takes me back to my youth.
looooooooooooooooooool is one of the most retarded song writers i ever heard, her video clips suck everything she makes sucks. A very poetic song about that eery, familiar feeling we sometimes get when we come face to face with our loneliness and isolation from the world. Excellent lyrics.
