Oh c'mon, you don't actually think the B-52s are good do you? The B-52s is the type of band where you watch one of their videos and think "Who the hell signed them? This is terrible"

The Dave Mathews band is overrated...but it's not their fault. They started at a time when their was almost no innovation left in Rock 'n Roll. The B-52s helped innovate alternative music in the late 70's and early 80's. Their 1st album in 1979 is considered one the top 200 albums of all time.

Overrated? Coming from a B-52s fan? Can't do nothing but just laugh at that. The 70's and 90's were the best music decades. Noticed no 80's? Why? Cuz the B-52s were 80's. DMB is better than the B-52s at everything. Playing instruments, lyrics, concerts, everything. Gimme a B-52s song. One considered their best. I swear to god if it's fuckin "Love Shack" or "Rock Lobster" this conversation is over. Those are the two worst and gayest songs of all time. Just terrible.

I just think it's distasteful for someone to be mocking a band who had much more influence in their era than his band has(virtually zero). As far as musical taste, you're entitled to your opinion... 'cause that's all it is... and opinion. As far as the 80s, I would have to put R.E.M, AN 80s BAND, who helped revolutionized alternative rock IN THE 90s, not quite in the same class... or area code.

See, you're trying to make it sound like there would be no DMB if it wasn't for the B-52s and that's not the case at all. Tom Petty, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, and many others are who influenced Dave Matthews. Haven't heard a lot of musicians say the were inspired by the B-52s. Stop tryin to act like the B-52s created music cuz they didn't. Springsteen, Petty, Young, Mellencamp, etc. paved the way for DMB. Not the B-52s, who hasn't paved the way for anyone.

Yeah, New Wave (whatever the hell that means). You act like the B-52s were the founders of Alternative music (they're not even Alternative, they're pop). You act like I should respect the B-52s when they've done nothing for me. The musicians I listen to have no relation to the B-52s. Again, DMB is Alternative rock music and the B-52s are pop. Like comparing apples and oranges. They're different!

You don't know anything about Rock history... so all you can say is "They're pop buddy"??... Their last big release(1989) WAS pop... but for most of their career, they were hard core punk/new wave. And you have a bad habit of putting words in people's mouths.... I don't HATE DMB.. I just think they're overrated... it's easier to write music when the inspiration comes TOTALLY from OTHER influences...LOL

We're in two different genres. R.E.M. and the B-52s are nowhere near Springsteen or Petty. Two different sounds, two different styles. Like comparing rap to rock. They're just TOO different.

Haha, are you trying to tell me that the 90's wasn't innovative? Maybe not as much as the 70's but still a great time for music. The 90's is my favorite decade of music. Maybe that's just cause that's when I was growing up.

And I don't think DMB is overrated. They have a very original sound that I Love and so many other people do too.

They're not THAT overrated. I was just trash-talking with HesterMVP because he was dogging the B-52s. And the 90's WAS innovative with Nirvana and grunge. After that, maybe not so much. I got nothing against the Dave Mathews Band. I actually love "Crash Into Me." They're a good band.
