Forget every single car after and before 1986, I think that to handle the Turbo Cars in 1986, I think that you really had to be a MAN to even handle the cars.
This is 1985 I think because the "Chicane du port" was very fast, and it was changed in 1986. by the way, the way Monaco was during 1986 and 1996 was the best. After that, they screwed the swimming pool and finally they have completely homosexualized Monaco circuit..
i would think that those engines would have needed an lot of the teams resources to develop and maintain i bet they just kept putting more and more wing on to get some grip instead of coming up with clever innovations with tyres and suspension and making up for the extra drag with more engine output
That is a beautiful machine driven by a true great amoungst men. I love the deep rich sound of the renault engine. Were they still mega turbos weith over 1000bhp? Monaco is the greatest spetical in F1.
I am 14 so I missed the great era of F1 racing. It would have been great to watch these guys risk their lives every 2 weeks. F1 today in my opinion has too much computing.
rediculous amount of horse power, no assisted steering, no siquential (speeling questionable), manual H pattern gearbox, minimal downforce, as much as i understand how hard it is to drive a modern single seater...... these were outragous. and ayrton... maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate, GOD

@ZedarKiller doesn't that same wikipedia article say something about the Brabham producing something like 1400+HP with the same 5.5bar boost? Like no one really knows because no one had a dyno that could handle it? Absolutely nuts! Bring turbos back, I say. Separate the real drivers from the tourists.
BMW's engine guru Paul Rosche was interviewed for Motorsport magazine (which has been around since 1924 and is very respected) and told them that they used a special fuel additive which had been used to boost octane values for fighter aircraft during WW2, when Germany was getting short on fuel.
This way Brabham could safely rise boost to 5,6bars for the BMW engine, which showed over 1400hp on the dyno. BMW's only went up to that, so they don't know if it was 1420, 1450 or 1500hp.
Although the Renault turbo engine was very powerful, it is widely believed that the BMW turbo was the most powerful one. It was used by Brabham and later Benetton. I doubt Renault could charge 5,5 bars of boost, when BMW only managed that thanks to a special fuel additive (which Renault claimed was illegal back in 1983) which had been developed during WW2 for fighter aircraft.
BMW had 5,6 bars of boost and 1400+hp (Motorsport magazine)
@orlandorecifebrasil In qualifying, they did run well over 1,000 HP. The rules were different then, and teams would rig up engines just for qualifying, with as much boost and RPMs as they could take without blowing up before completing a lap. The engines used for the actual race were not nearly as powerful.
Still, F1 has never seen engines like those in 1986 before or since. In '87, F1 limited turbos to 4 bar boost, and in '88, to 2.5. In '89, everyone had to use naturally aspirated engines.
@orlandorecifebrasil I'm probably not the first saying this: RPMs were indeed smaller, but in that time they had turbo, to gain 1400HP. Thanks for the upload, much appreciated!
900hp was still a lot more than the 500hp the typical 3,0 litre Cosworth V8 they had back then. When the 3,5 litre engine formula was introduced from 1989 onwards, the Honda V10 had around 680hp.
900hp wasn't seen again until 2004 (almost 20 years later), and that with cars that were totally superior in handling, safety and technology. Makes one realize these turbo-beasts in the mid 80's were quite a thing to drive. And to behold. Senna was one of those as if made for the era.
@kallo182 where did i say that these cars was 1500hp you cum guzzler, i said these cars are more pwerfull and harder to drive than the f1 cars of today, you need skill to drive in that era now computers do the driving retard fuck face go get your dads dick out your ass coming on youtube all angry because your anal is in pain.
@kallo182 yea im 23 and your a sad old perfectic 28 Year old virgin who still lives at home with his mum who comes on youtube to argue, do1 you sad fucking looossssseeeerrrr
@kallo182 I have no answer on why the speeds are so much different, but I guess til have something to do with tyres and aerodynamics that makes the cars faster in the corners as well.
The 1500HP is not true, but if you hang on, I'll try to go through it briefly over 2 comments :)
For a start, the dyno which was used to test the engines was only rated for 1400bhp, so any values measured above that value are effectively nonsense.
@kallo182 Looking at the story closer, it seems that the estimate of the peak power was for a Monza spec engine, without a wastegate, and based on a flash pressure reading of the cylinder pressure. It is also worth noting that engine was the one which Gerhard Berger used, and the one which exploded in spectacular fashion as he came out of the Ascari chicane.
I hope you drive one of these cars one day pal, pussy wagon f1 or 1400hp turbo qualifying f1 you'll still kill yourself in the first few seconds you hit the accelerator. have a nice day
