dude. dude. I subscribed after that wonderful giant squid of hate song just the other day, expecting other funny but awesome songs. Now I find that you have songs that are not funny, but even MORE AMAZING. Wonderful song. I absolutly loved it. Anyway to download?
At the moment there isn't anyway to download my songs (sad face) but I have no trouble with you downloading the YouTube video using third-party sites or recording the audio off of here. Alternatively, private-message me your email address and I could send you the audio file =)
Thanks very much! Bill has done a lot for me these past few weeks. It's good to see another person joining the ranks thanks to his recommendations. =)
Thanks Sara! Singing softly really isn't something I have a problem with - it's singing with enough gusto on punchier tracks that I have a problem with!
Oh yes, I sing. If you want an easy way to check out my songs, just head over to the remarkably-named "Paul Sings" playlist on my channel. All my musical outings are there =)
I really like this. The lyrics are striking but simple, and emote a lot without beating you over the head.
I also particularly like that it's never "My heart is breaking," but instead your world or soul. I think that this really makes the song so good. It sort of skews a typical image. Brilliant
I did want to avoid using that line - it's so cliché and also very pessimistic: like the broken heart can't be used again, which completely contradicts the rest of the song.
(Only nerdfighters could have such deep lyrical analysis in a YouTube comment section :P)
Thanks Sinead! That t-shirt is actually really old - I really only wear it when all my other, newer t-shirts have gone in the wash. I'd probably wear it more often but the sleeves are really short and it can look a bit weird sometimes :P
I think this is probably your best so far too :) And very commercial sounding. The consensus seems to be that it's ok to throw in a 'serious' song every now and then :)
This is your best by far, in my opinion. I can relate completely with your words, and the music is beautiful as well. My admiration and respect continue to grow with every video. -- Edi
Touching song :-) Reminds me of my own early stuff. And early love life :P One question though, why do you record guitar and vocal seperately? I think a live recording would work better.
To be honest, I'd probably agree with you there. Unfortunately I'm still trying to fine-tune my recording styles and this is just the easiest way to do things at the moment - not to mention that the vocal track took at least six takes to get right! :D
It's all about aiming the mic. I don't exactly know the type of mic, but your vocal sounds quite nice through it, so I guess your guitar would too. If you aim it right, you could get a good sound of both vocal and guitar. And as for the amount of takes: you'd get one take less, because you wouldn't have to record the guitar in advance ;-) But by all means do things your own way, I like the songs no matter what ;-)
That was wonderful. I really love the line: "Break down these walls / That keep me starved of everything" It really feels like you're being deprived or starved of something vital when someone you love isn't with you. And it helps that your voice is beautiful.
I keep telling myself that I *have* to start writing better stuff, that I need to just sit down and get things on paper, but it never seems to work out like I want it.
Yeah... I know how you feel - I get terrible dry spells. In my experience (which I must say is a little limited) songs come when you least expect them (case in point - I wrote the Harry Potter and Squid songs the evening before they were uploaded). Some songs take days to get right and others just click straight away...
This is beautiful! What a wonderful song. I really want a copy of this.

Wonderful song. I just wanted to say so. I've listened to it multiple times now. :) I love that the lyrics are both ambiguous and relatable.

Awesome lyrics. I commend you on your ability to sing softly and control your voice. Not something everyone can do effectively. =)

Nice job man, sounds good.
But, hit me up on skype some time tomorrow, your mic is positioned terribly for capturing your vocals. ;)

Thanks again for getting the word out for me Bill - I've just passed 100 subs and I'd say that you're a big factor in that =)

Is that okay?

My policy on covers is simple: yes, yes and YES!
So long as you don't try and claim the song as you're own (which I'm sure you won't) feel free to cover any of my songs as you see fit. =)
