Yeah Bret, more great stuff. I saw this band at Keystone Korner and sat in the front row so close I could reach out and touch Cannonball's shoe. Loved Hal's Rhodes sound. Bright Moments!
I'm so glad you are doing this, Bret...this is simply some wonderful stuff that you're getting on video. Hal is such a great guy...and his description of Cannonball matches perfectly with my experience of meeting Cannonball and the band in 1969 when I was a junior in high school. I had no idea who they were at the time! But the second I heard them play I just felt that I needed to be physically close to these guys...I followed them around like a puppy dog for the couple days they were in my town
Great video! I experienced the "Big Beat" a few weeks ago jamming with Lolo Bélonzi, disciple of Kenny Clarke, it's really something that you need to hear and feel live!
"Recordings thin out the rhythmic feeling" - this is so key to what is usurping the power of jazz today. Very deep issue.

I alway love reading and hearing stories about Cannonball. The ultimate altoist and one heck of a great human being.

Great Cannonball stories! Hal Galper is one superb musician; his 'Art-Work'
CD with bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Rashid Ali is one of his very
best recordings.

great stories, especially what to do when you're lost. cannonball: "everybody gets lost. the problem is how long you're lost for."
