Great- my kinda jazz. Used to watch Todd with Ron Eschete in L.A. before I moved to Colorado. Rich, you're a brilliant player- I'm looking forward to hearing more and checking out your educational materials!
sounds great! but that's definitely a guitar & not the bass comping chords during the guitar solo. it aint the guitarist @ the same time either.soooo.... must be a loop
That is awesome having a bass player that can comp behind the soloist while still playing a bassline. I'm no stranger to Rich or Todd. You both have inspired me spriritually as well as musically. You truly are blessed.
I could be wrong, butI think the guitarist has a loop sampler pedal with which he records the chords either live or prior to the set and then switches on during his solo. But the bassist was playing some neat chords at some parts as well.
It's possible but I don't think they're using any loops. Todd is a master at bassline comping. His work with Ron Eschete proves that. If you look good at his right hand you can see his fingers comping thoughout Rich's solo. It sounds like a guitar because he's using the upper string of his 6 string bass to play the chords. Todd plays the bass as if it was a guitar. Check out some of Todds other videos.

Whoa !!!! Is that the bass player who is comping ?!?!?!
If not there is a ghost player somewhere.
It is the bass player comping. Wow. This totally blows my mind. I think this would be impossible on an upright bass.
Do you guys ever play in North Carolina ?
