Released on the CD single multiversions of "My Sweet Lord" Close to his leaving us here! My sweet George..miss him so!!!!!!! When listening to the whole CD...bring a fresh intellect as to where George was as he was leaving us :-( I tear up everytime I think of him leaving us..though he is at peace with Krishna! This CD stays with me always...as his 10 year memorial arrives Nov. 29,2011...also my mothers birthday. R.I.P.Sweet George XO
ive been on youtube for years, never made a comment. this song made me do that. i like it better than original. its fuckin awesome down to the core. let your hair hang all around me. its aggressive and romantic. love it
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were musical geniuses, but they should have allowed George more album space. Towards the end of the Beatles career the quality of George's songs easily matched and often supassed those of John and Paul. George had a tremendous backlog of gems that John and Paul vetoed off their later recordings. Just listening to George's songs brings peace to my soul. What an incredible talent this man had. Just unbelievable.
@MrJacknjill12 I would say George had J & P bested from the beginning, actually - 'Don't Bother Me' is probably the most well-written song on 'With the Beatles', certainly with a stronger melody and much cooler and more exotic arrangement than anything else on that album : ) and on another note, acoustic versions don't always surpass full-band versions in quality... but I always thought this version of Let It Down blew the album version away!
@JoggingOnTheMoon I agree with you. "I Need You" was the most plaintive song they recorded until "Julia". His power was, as in his life, quiet and understated, tasteful, soulful, appropriate, yet thankfully nowhere near as polished as Macca. And he his music was as personal as anything Lennon wrote, but without being contritely autobiographical, and yet more intense. He made some songs feel as if YOU wrote them. All Those Years Ago, a great example of that.
@JoggingOnTheMoon Awesome!! Don't Bother Me is a great song! Too bad John & Paul sold it along with their songs! And then didn't offer George partnership in The Beatles Empire. But then he goes an forms a publishing company in 1964 called Mornyork. This becomes Harrisongs that same year. But he doesn't write anything!!! Not until he's offered 1.6% in Northern Songs Ltd. in 1965! THEN he starts pushing to get his songs on Beatles albums. He even advertises I Need You at the end of HELP!
@MrJacknjill12 couldn't have said it better myself. listened to this album after i watched the scorsese documentary about him. i don't even know the words to describe how he, his guitar, his voice and his beliefs made me feel
you wanna know whats rare i have a double cd set of george's called legend of a leg end now thats rare.not many have it.and when i typed leg end i mean leg end.
Around the time of recording the 'Let It B'-album, they should've recorded an album with 10 of George's songs instead, and only 2 or 3 songs by Lennon/McCartney. That could've saved the Beatles as a unit, and would've made an interesting album.
if you ever watched the footage not in the movie let it be you can see john lennon not even playing or paying attention when george paul and ringo are playing his songs let it down or all things must pass or isnt it a pity.he is even talking with yoko while george is trying to sing.he hated the songs isnt it a pity and hated working on any songs that werent his.
Thanks for putting this up. Gives me chills. Sound quality is superb. I'll have to drag out the remastered CD again. That was a treat. Who makes music like this today ?? Nobody.
this is the best version of this song. the ad-libs, rough vox, etc. Love raw versions of their famous songs, like the version of Real Love from Imagine-the movie soundtrack with just John on guitar...
With the sus4ths, Maj7ths/9ths, Harrison clearly anticipated Andy Summers' watery polychords...sus4ths, Maj6ths/7ths/9ths, not to mention the rather freeze-dried funk of Steely Dan by a number of years.
While loved the the bottleneck slide improvisations he added as a call-and-response to his vocal on the final version, this acoustic version is startlingly impressive for its unadorned starkness and paradoxical sophistication harmonically.
i really prefer this version over the album one, great song! and interesting about that cold part, he does sound a little bit like he has a sour throat =)
10 years without George... I still can't believe it

@MrJacknjill12 Exactly, in my humble opinion he was actually the most successful after The Beatles split up.
