  • this video is not fair at all. the xb is tailored for americans. the cube you're reviewing is for japanese. Make another video with the american cube and I bet you'll see major differences.

  • 1:19 Looks like the car is going to heaven

  • 1 mths = 13.8 sec

  • Honda Element: Just plain bad.

Scion xB: Fascinating, but it never really became popular.

Nissan Cube: Some hate it, some love it. I, personally, love everything except for the manual transmission.

Kia Soul: They got people interested with hamsters.

Ford Flex: Ford made a 'box.' This is serious.

    Dodge Nitro: LOLOLOLOL

  • Maybe thats the reason why asians cant drive ...NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • You don't usually see front bench seats in the U.S.

  • @bluebearbank247

The Ford Flex is a full size crossover. It isn't even in the same wavelength.

Look at the Jeep Wrangler, or the Hummer H2 also boxy.

  • the US version is equipped with a 1.8 engine instead of the 1.4 of this test...

  • Now that's the most manily car I have ever seen... :O

  • im going to get a nissan cube for high school and put a bunch of HELLO KITTY stuff in it.

  • ".....takes about a MONTH to get to 60mph." WOW! I'm laughing my tail off right now. XDDD

  • not a fair comparison . the xb still has it beat on hp but its bigger and i think it moved a bit far in design from the 1st gen xb. the cube is a good car for gas mileage and urban areas where parking is tight and besides , it's a nissan it will be reliable and the resale will hold nice. it's like the xb , either you love it or hate it . oh and it's way cooler and way more reliable than a jeep !

  • Umm.... if you want a real comparo you need the US spec Cube, which is completely different. The US spec Cube kills the xB. partly because they are still unique. Every "hipster" already has the Scion. It's boring

  • fuck the cube, and fuck women and their stupidity about cars.

  • cube is fucking ugly!

  • 13.8 seconds? My Junker saturn would have made that nissan look solow. The Cube is a weak car, I'd much rather have a Kia soul, or Xb.

  • The cube should be compared to the 2004-2006 scion xb

    Not the 2nd generation

  • U.S. version is a 1.8 liter. On the Cube. I was a fan of the first Scion XB but, the newer body style, has less head room, & it got ugly. The tail lights are also very ugly, on the newer XB.The KIA Soul is just completely biting Scions ideas', of the fun box style. Scion had the colored interior lights first, along with the sub. The Honda Element, has no intentions of renewing its' body style. I also thought that looked nice with ALL painted fenders,(lowered).I like the Cube, for being unique.

  • I dont like Car who looks like BOX :D

  • Agreed! Horsepower in a car like these is key because it allows the car to have a much better fuel efficiency rating and allows for more cargo.

  • hey frank this is todd....sorry i hung up without notice last night, i accidentally dropped hot oatmeal on my ball's...if you get this give me a call tonight im free for whatever

  • Honestly the whole concept for the cars were to add a modern twist them. If you truly think about it all cars are "boxy". Trucks, SUVS, Compact cars. The boxiness is just more defined. As for horsepower more is better when it comes to anything. I dont know how many of you are in California but I would rather be behind a Scion xB than a Nissan Cube. I love my xB!

  • I'll take 30 mpg over horsepower anyday.

  • get a kia soul.

  • i dont think they're girl cars

i think jettas are girl cars

these are awesome cuz you can soup the up

  • naw..jettas are cars for fools...they are SUPER unreliable...so i guess u could say they are cars for idiots lol

  • they should redo the comparison with the current spec Cube, since it has better interior, radio, and engine.

2nd gen xBs are failtacular though. the 1st gen had all the right ideas before becoming "Americanized"

  • "since it has a better... radio" shouldn't that read "since it has a radio"?

  • They should have tried a little harder on the interior of the Cube. It looks like they ran through all the design budget on the exterior.

  • yea my xb fits my everyday lifestyle

  • Who cares how fast or powerful they are? Who buys a boxcar for power???

  • well...one big reason is if you use the car for a family car....u need horsepower to support the weight of your family...it wouldnt be easy toting around a 5 person affair with luggage and 100hp know what i mean?

  • I just used my Cube to move. I couldn't have possibly fit any more into it. it was packed to the brim. I had to do this multiple times. I only noticed a slight drop in gas efficiency. Plus I've had 5+ people in it and she did fine. So I guess i don't know what you mean.

  • @JameyChaCha eh....how many hills do you go up?...or was it mostly flat road driving.....

  • My new house is on the top of a rather large hill. Plus there were many on the way. Had zero problems.

  • Fit trumps both.

  • Scions are MUCH better. I love my xB!! :o)

  • I love my Scion!

  • I have a scion and loves it. The cube is gr8 if your a Jr high school girl.

  • I'll stick with my 1976 Jeep pickup. It only gets 10 mpg, and it may struggle to get to 60 mph (it's geared low), but at least it's made out of metal, and at least it isn't hideous like the cars in this video are.

  • hmmm.... wonder where they got the boxy idea from. Jeep? I think that's been around for much longer than either of these wastes of plastic. Buy a real vehicle. Jeep.

  • As an owner of an 05 xB, I can truly say that you get what you pay for. It's been a great little car to run the kids around town for the past 56 months, but the ride is horrible, underpowered, and never associate the words "smooth" and "engine" with the xB. I have no regrets with the purchase....but put away the smoke and mirrors...the first toasters may have the "look" that's cool, but I think Scion has dealth with my issues with the latest "box"...that Cube sucks.

  • Don't care. Still love my 2005 xB. Toaster Edition rocks! Me and the Brave Little Toaster: good times. I do think that little cube is interesting looking, but I will stick with toast and not the poptart box.

  • thats the 2nd gen cube... the 2009 has 122hp and ripple effect interior

  • but..you missed the point..I was just being sarcastic

  • well if we're to good for everything that comes from overseas how come we buy foreign cars and most of our ancestors came from overseas. afterall the on ly purebred americans are the native americans aka the indians

  • while your language is harsh there is a shred of truth to it. however this is true for other countries as well. they all want to buy their own country's products but there is a limit to it, hence the failure of the big 3

  • I dunno bout yall, but I think the Cube is a lot cooler than the xB and the Soul. Cube has been around longer to so I think Scion copied the Cube with their xB.I would drive the Cube, its pretty cool, and different.

  • They both look like shit.

  • Nissan cube=wannabe xbox...er,xB (thanks SpartanW98)

    So does the Kia Soul.

All the same concept. So like the Chevy lookalike to the PT Cruiser.

Looks like the foreign cars are taking copycat cues from Ford/GM/Chrysler. Remember when the Big Three used to copy each other (and still do)?

Whatever happened to individuality and originality?

  • Cube has been sold in Japan for more than a decade(with the same look). I believe xB came out AFTER CUBE in Japan. Kia is complete copy of xB success in U.S as well as Ford Flex. You gotta check out 'weird lookin cars built by Nissan' in 90s in Japan. Cube went through survival elimination among strange looking cars in Japan. Respect for Nissan Cube for originality, but no respect for Kia Soul.

  • cube is a wannabe xb

  • both soooo ugly.

  • If you go into a Nissan dealer and ask them if they have any boxes lying around that they could install wheels on, they will take you into the showroom and introduce you to the Cube! Right?

  • cube = not for fat people

  • Yo, tards, look when this was made, that might explain where they got the specks

  • ROFL 95 HORSEPOWER 0-60 in a month 13.9 seconds hhahhaha! my ATV can do 0-60 in faster then that rofl!

  • ROFL 95 HORSEPOWER 0-60 in a month 13.9 seconds

    NICE!!!!

  • well of course it has no weight besides your fat ass.

This is a great ride for people that want to spend money on things besides penis extensions.

  • not everything needs to be bigger and fastest fuckin dumbass hahaha

thats all were doing these days

    everything bigger

  • u get morefor ur money when u buy the scion xb or honda element

  • They need to re-do this video, alot has changed.

  • The CUBE is standard with Vehicle Dynamic stability control and six airbags...what cube did they test??? CERTAINLY NOT THE US SPEC CAR....COME ON EDMNDS GET WITH IT

  • hey im in a huge contest to win one of these things, not spam or anything. its an actual contest. I need votes and support. check out my newest video.

  • whomever put this video comparison together should have wait for the American spec CUBE. It will be better equipped obviously.

  • wow cube= joke

  • wow, can it be any more bias?

  • what the hell they should have kept the cube in japan I can't imagine anyone buying it here.

  • Both are a giant fail. xB1 FTW! If only companies would stop ripping designs off each other, there might be a true uniqueness to cars.

  • It's too bland. Same for the new XB. The earlier one had soul, the new one tryed to slap on fake SOUL!! to make it HOT!!!!. It ended up as a baby hummer 3. Another Flop aimed at pretenders. Sion had nailed it with the first one, but let marketing and sales talk them into a warm pile of c---.

  • even a gay Toyota prius can do 0-60 under 10 sec

Nissan needs to come with a good idea of redesigning the car for the next few years

  • i thought the cube did 0-60 in 9.7

  • What the point of comparing the J-spec Cube with a U.S. spec xB??? This announcer is taking jabs at the Cube when it's not a realistic comparison. The new Cube will be more powerful and have plenty of "U.S." features, including a radio - please, edmunds, compare something more worthwhile.

  • u can get shag carpet on the cube as an extra feature

  • But you can shag on the carpet,in a cube :)

  • haha so true

  • The american Cube is coming with alot more feats. than the Japanese version and a larger motor.

  • GranMax is da best ! only $6,500 ! plus it looks better.Too bad its only in indonesia.

  • I thought the Cube was coming with a 1.8l..

    i read that somewhere..

    What a moron..They won't bring a 1.4l here..Fuckin idiot

  • This announcer is such a fucking American stereotype...I'm ashamed. "If the Cube wants to have a shot, it has to be bigger, and more powerful."

WHY BIGGER? Why can't Nissan just shove the motor from the Se-R Spec-V sentra's and call it a day? (never going to happen) But noooo It has to be LARGER. I hate that..

  • The xB2 has been a failure for Scion. We should have gotten the new bB that everyone else got. It lost everything that was cool and good about the real xB. The Cube should do fine with a slight power upgrade. It's too bad Scion stopped selling xBs after only 3 years. The Cube can capitolize on that now.

  • the new xB is horrible, the old one looked fine (im not a big fan of scion) but this new one is too big, it's almost the size of my Astra

  • The announcer is so full of crap. The new xB2 is a failure. Keep the Cube the way it is and just add a slightly larger engine. It should do as well as the real xB did in the 3 short years it was offered.

  • wonder what the top speed is? what are the tires rated too? spoiler option?

  • Element Kills

  • I am so going to power drift that little shit.

  • none at all

  • a question to american motorists, do u have peugots in the usa? if so, how popular are they?

  • No we don't have them here. Once in a decade, you may come across one because a fanatic imported one.

  • lol we have alot in ireland!

  • Yea, they're common in Europe. I used to live in Russia and there's many of them there too.

  • They do realize the Old xB was a bigger success than the new one right?

Yeah, the Cube will need refinement, but so did the BB when it became the First xB.

It doesn't need a big hp boost,( maybe the 108hp of the old Scion) and Its size is just fine.

Just give it a radio , a small hp boost , and bucket seats and its ready.

  • Scion (toyota) killed the XB when they added that (comparatively) huge ass engine. These are supposed to be economy cars. The Xb used to have a 105 hp engine and it drove just fine. The cube will need to up the size of its engine for highway driving, but not by much.

  • yeah, I have a 2005 xB (aka first gen) and it does just fine. People forget, yeah its only a 108 hp engine, but the car is surprisingly light. I like the new front end on the new xB, but thats it. Its no longer a Toyota BB based vehicle.

  • In the cheap end of the market, people want fuel efficiency, not power. The cube is right. Unfortunately, it will get a bigger 1.8 litre engine rather than the 1.4 it has in Japan. That means more fuel consumption. Pity.

  • da 08 exbizzle b tuh big an nawt az boxey

i gawtz a 06 an i luv it it b so boxey an gangsta an itz nawt a amerikan car so it ain b a pees ov shit

i h8 amerikan carz an i hoap dey awl go owt ov biznizz

  • I thought the Cube would be more feul efficient with an engine that small, but i geuss it needs to work hard.

  • Watching this video I get the feeling that the only thing that matters for US Americans is a big car that can spend more fuel. I'm not stating this, it's just what you can notice from this video. Who cares how many seconds it takes from 0 to 100? It's not a racing car, it's a family car. This review sucks.

  • I'd like to see a three-way comparison with the xB, Kia Soul, and the US-spec Cube when it finally comes to market. Sure, the Cube's HP sucks, but you can't find better utility in a vehicle under $10K - if that's going to be the actual price. Of course, if HP is a concern, these are all the wrong vehicles to be looking at anyway - unless Nismo and Stillen have some Cube stuff in the pipeline. LOL Nissan Cube SE-R. Hmmm. Ok, I'll put down the pipe.

  • no fire place to smoke butts next to

  • Inexpensive, new, some strange style whats more not to love? $9995 wins the battle done over. Scions going to have to lower there prices now to compete.

  • Dude. What are you guys talking about? This car is a total chick magnet. I would buy one if I had the money. ^_^

  • they have uped the power of the cube and it has a six speed trans

  • Scion is better but 10 grand wins the fight later yota.

  • Cube cant compete with scion! Toyota got there chit together. However they can whip them in price department! Prepair for nissan to take toyota out.

  • wats all this talk about nissan winning cause of its low price....i wouldnt drive that ugly ass cube if they were giving it away for free...nissan dissapointed me in this one...seems like they saw the old xb and then bull shitted the designa

  • Nissan is the winner at MSRP $9995 its gonna win the battle!!!!

  • Come on guys; this is a cute little car!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's not an odd equipment list, in fact it sounds like it's equipped exactly for it's target market.

Also, regarding the 0-60 times, think about all the driving you do... all day every day. I don't know about you but most of the time I'm going 7 mph in rush hour traffic, 13 seconds 0-60 is probably twice as fast as I would need! Stop pretending like you drive like a cast member from Fast & Furious.

  • I think the Sion XB has now smoothed out rough edges and does look less boxy and leads the Nissan at this point.Lets say its good to have competition because now Sion will look to improve even more!!!!!!!!!!

  • my dad sells the Nissan cube

  • lol it looks like a car an american designed...damn it´s ugly

  • you ppl that say it's ugly

    ur plain american dumbass

this is made for City side in Japan, like sibuya, ginza , tokyo in general

this has great amount of space in it

and it's not suitable for Ameircans who drive on the highway

i love this personally because it looks very simple and designed very well

Europeans tend to like these cars too

    ur just way behind

  • cacophonius - your backwood thinking is one of the reason the U.S auto makers are dying. Look around the auto dealership around your neighborhood and you'll find U.S cars, trucks, SUV's and minivans that people don't want to buy. Now we have to bail them out with our own tax money to continue making gas guzzlers. I own 2 U.S and 1 Japanese cars. You can keep them all by yourself with your 16 mpg's w/ very little room. All muscle no brain! It works in NASCAR but not in real world.

  • I know your right but lets not forget how poorly the big 3 treated used car buyers about lying about condition of vehicle and how it was aquired in an accident etc!!!

  • They both are ugly. Someone needs to get a really long flatbed semi-junked diesel truck spewing flames out of the smoke stacks to haul both of those piece of shit cars to a nasty junkyard with dogs that will piss on those cars.

  • i like how it has a white c pillar on the right but it seems invisible on the left

  • the one that is coming to america is that one going to have a radio and will it be faster also love the frount

  • Nissan Cube soo cute ^_^

  • KIA Soul FTW~!

  • KIA, has put tremendous amount of money on this european designer and he designed those cars and they look fabulous, i agree

  • Hopefully they'll increase power before they finalize it, because 95 HP in today's day and age will get you run off the road.

  • Nissan plans to use the same engine in the Versa

  • never a huge fan of the xb, but it looks like a dream car compared to the cube

  • Scion xB=COROLLA RUMION in JAPAN

  • IN JAPAN buddy!

  • This is like comparing apples to oranges.. the Japanese Cube is more comparable in size to the current Toyota bB, which is no longer sold in the US as the xB. The current Cube is actually closer in size to the Scion xD. The larger Corolla-based xB with the Camry engine is a completely different animal.. and I expect the US Cube will have a much larger powerplant when it finally arrives.

  • Since the xb has been redesigned I never liked it as well. Now there is the xd which is a better design than the currect xb in my opinion. The cube isn't too bad looking but needs better performance.

  • some american company ford or somthing is bringing out a BB copy in 2009

  • as a person who has a Scion Xb and Xa to drive on a daliy basis i would love to own a cube once the modify it for the american public

  • anyway nissan cube looks better then xb the xb looks like shit now the 2004-2006 looked better

  • I agree with that

  • nissan trying to copy toyota? are you fuckin serious? the cube has been out in japan FOREVER. and so has xb.. so i don't think anyone is copying anyone.

plus, not a fair fight. the cube was designed for japan which is probably why a lot of stuff standard on the xb isn't standard on the japan spec cube.

power wise... japan freeways go like 50-60 mph... so there is no point for nissan to develope a high hp vehicle

rumor says that it suppose to have the versa's 1.6 or 1.8L ithink.

  • just to let you know the nissan cube was out before the toyota bb ( scion Xb)

  • I just love the Scion XB. It looks so young and rad.

  • nice seats...k

  • WOW nissan trying to copy scion. xB is still better regardless.

  • nissan's failed attempt to copy toyota

  • FYI Nissan Cube came out way before the freakin xB buddy soooo it shows that toyota jocked Nissan all the way bro!!!!

  • hmm your right, i didnt know, but still it is WAY under powered. they should have gave it it the altima enigne option or something

  • i don't think so in japan they got the toyota Bb witch has been around for a while, its the same as the xb

  • ide get the cube its 4x4 lol they should use the altimas 4 cyl engine in it for optional or the beefed up 3.5 v6 probbly wont fit lol

  • and don't get me wrong im into horsepower but how bout a purpose built car why do i need an eco car to do 0-60 in 8 seconds id rather just use the gas money i save to do a real sports car for when i want to drive fast.

  • Rent the sports car let the rental companies pay for all the depreciation of that car. We rented a cadi to go to La from Ms&back we drove over 5k miles in a week the rental agency shit when we returned it 2 hours early with all those miles on it we got it with 1020 returned it with 6580. We paid more for fuel than the rental. Ride a beater around town take a real car on the road if it bust its their problem. Buy an old rental not me?

  • i don't see how 104hp is underpowered in fact i think cars need to start going back to that kind of power range atleast the economy cars should id bet this cube will get 40mpg and cost half as much as a prius they should jus offer the 2.0l like in the sentra as an option and see which one sells more

  • i read an article on the cube and its only a couple of MPG better than the Xb like i said in my other comments on this vid the cube has alot to go through before it hits the us

  • i liked the origional xb and i was complaining when the cube came out and they didn't bring it to the u.s. they should give it a renult diesel something that small shoudl get 70mpg cause theres already renults doing that in europe

  • I have an xB, and a ZUNE!

But anyway, I will definitely be pushing for a Nissan Cube for the next car. I want an xB and one of those. The older xBs like mine are better, however.

  • I agree with the above post, nissan will always be a "B-tier" vehicle.

  • I try to practice some degree of hypermiling or what I have known for years as the smith system and for the first time ever cars are not passing me they are beginning to realize it is useless to race to the next stop light or stop sign. I look ahead to see what is going to slow me up ahead why get there on the guys bumper and loose fuel accelerating when you can glide there for 1/2 the fuel. They are in a hurry to wait it's dumb.

  • Totally agree with you on this.

  • I dont understand why you would want to have earbuds in your ears while driving..

  • the nissan is hideous!!! i have an o5 yellow Xb and its way better than that nissan

  • Nissan has always been a B-tier maker compared to toyota and honda. They'll stay there in the US market.

  • You deducted this from the above video?

Im currently making a video where a GT-R spanks a Supra/NSX to a 1/4 mile but with a catch. The GT-R is towing a boat...

(I use supra and nsx as they use a late model and old in the tooth cube)

...therefore Nissan is obviously head and shoulders above its jdm competition.

This video/forum desperately needs some context.

  • No, I made that comment based on sales and the consistency of the cars. A lot of people grow out of wanting high-school boy style cars and want a car that runs and is easy to work on.

Nissans were great cars about 15-20 years ago and back, but they haven't kept up with Toyota and Honda in terms of engineering. Their answer has been to make impractical and stupid designs (like the murano, etc). Their old bread and butter may have been boring (stanza, sentra, pickups), but it was good stuff.

  • I actually like some of Nissan's designs, but I have the same concerns over engineering and reliability. To me the Cube is a throwback to the old Nissan's, at least in looks. (BTW I own an XB which I love.)

  • Mine is a 2006 Scion XB and all I have to say is.... I love my box on wheels. Not only does it looks totally cool. But it is also very dependable, practical and best of all... very economic. And come on... it's a Toyota after all. Nuff Said!

  • By the way, I agree with your basic point, though - this comparison is basically purposeless other than to make media for the purpose of making media. My comment was just a general response to someone else's post.

I got on here looking for reviews of the scion xB, and got one 2wks after post. I was looking for a cheap functional car to supplement a coupe - something with more cargo area - but cheap to get and operate. It is that. Not an eye-popping machine, but as advertised.

  • gah this is why I take Edmunds with a grain of salt!! I mean give me a break they take the least expensive and least powerful JDM version against a made for US xB (which was later reintroduced for the Japanese market as the Corolla Rumion)..The Us Spec Cube will more than likely have the 1.5L I-4 from the Versa as standard..Come one Edmunds try to be more realistic

  • That was a horrible preview. They didn't even mention that the cube has 4wd and is a hybrid. Or the fact that it is has an optional 3rd row of seating.

  • xB FTW!!

  • The nissan looks super cute :)

  • damn idiots at renault, they are ruining nissan, nissan ffs bring back the primera stagea avenir 200sx silvia not thi rubbish cube, micra crap

  • LMAO @ a month haha

  • LOL AGREED!!

  • I'd like to know the name of the song at the beginning. The "dun dun da da dun" bass beat.

  • damn i thought my svt contour was bad. it takes 7 and a half lmao

  • 0-60 in 13.8 seconds is ridiculous...
